Wake Up Moon

Jess drums on the steering wheel as she drives; she is fidgeting uncomfortably in the silence of the drive. Colin kept Moon close to him, her head resting on his lap. He twirls a lock of her hair, absent-mindedly lost in thought. Jess hates the silence, but she was not about to engage in conversation with Colin right now. She has known him long enough to realize he was not in the mood to talk.

Jess met him when he came to Twin Falls. His uncle Alpha Thomas Evens took Colin in. It was not made common knowledge why Colin came to Twin Falls. There were plenty of rumors though people loved to talk about him at first and come up with theories about why he was sent away from his pack.

People avoided Colin at first, afraid of him and the things they imagined he did, but soon it became apparent that Colin was a good man. He proved himself to the people of Twin Falls, and Alpha Thomas and his mate never had children. They were all too happy to leave the pack to him. Thomas stayed with Colin and helped him transition into the role, and soon the pack was growing and thriving like never before. Colin is a great leader who cares deeply for his people, and those people are now more loyal than he could imagine.

Jess eventually found out why Colin was thrown from his pack, and she has never believed any of it. She also believes that they cast him out, thinking no one would take him in and he would just become a rogue or something. Little did they know that Thomas loved his sister and mourned her death, and the fact that he was kept away from her from the time she became Maddox’s mate was crushing for him.

Jess clears her throat, “We will be home soon.”

Colin simply nods and continues watching Moon for signs of life. He sucks in a breath of air as the color rushes back to Moon’s face; her lips turn from their blueish tint to pink, and she coughs, gasping. Jess swerves a little at the sudden commotion catching her off guard.

“Moon?” Colin calls, panic creeping into his deep and husky voice.

Moon sits up and nearly slips off the leather seat to the floor. Colin braces her as she gets control of her breathing. Jess doesn’t know what to do, so she pulls over to the side of the road for a moment. Moon is looking around the car, her eyes wide.

“Where am I?” She says, a bit frantic and still coughing a bit.

“We are nearly to Twin Falls,” Colin replies, pulling her close to him and turning her to look at her face. What happened? What is the last thing you remember?” Colin is still looking over her face, clearly concerned.

“I remember starting to shift and so much pain. I could hear my wolf, and she was screaming as well. It was an awful sound.” Moon says as her heart drops.

Colin pulls her close to him, hugging her and nuzzling his face in her hair, “I’m so sorry. I thought you were never coming back.”

Moon leans into his embrace. She still feels cold, and he’s so warm. Moon felt him with her while she was unconscious; somehow, she knew he was there with her. It was like she was stuck in a dream she can’t explain. She is trying to remember what she saw, but it’s broken fragments of memories now, and she can’t put the pieces back together.

Moon quickly becomes aware of how warm she is getting and how quickly. She can even feel her wolf dancing in her mind and hear her chanting mine as she prances. This is the clearest her wolf has been in her mind, and Moon is nervous that it will be gone again.

“Umm, I think we need to get her back. Doc is really going to want to see her now.” Jess says from the front seat.

Moon pulls away, and Colin is reluctant to let her go. He loosens his hold but keeps her close to him. Moon isn’t about to argue. She enjoys the comfort and the fact that with her wolf more prominent in her mind, she can feel the tingles from his fingers brushing her arm. The tingling is causing delightful goosebumps and swarms of butterflies in her stomach. She leans more into him unconsciously as they drive the last few miles to Twin Falls.

Moon is glad they are close to the pack. She would hate to think that they still had the whole drive to go, and she would have to try and sit in the car and not feel ill. Moon watches the people out her window when they start driving through town. She can see a few of Big Spring’s Pack are already here.

“How long was I out?” Moon asks slowly, a little afraid of the answer.

“About a day,” Colin responds, drawing circles on her arm with his thumb.

“I missed a whole day? What happened with Jamie? Who were those wolves, and what happened?” Moon questions sitting up out of Colin’s arms. She felt too distracted by his touch to focus on getting the answers to her questions.

“Jamie got away with the other wolves. I only know one of them, and he is my brother Caleb’s Gamma. Unfortunately, they saw you shifting, and they know what you are now. We will have to be diligent; I know Caleb, and he will try to get to you.”

“And what am I?” Moon asks, confused and tilting her head.

“You really don’t remember, do you? Moon, you are a white wolf, and you have even shifted before. Something happened, and they did something to suppress your wolf.” Colin replies, trying to be gentle with his words.

“what do you mean I shifted before, and someone suppressed my wolf? Who would do something like that to me?” Moon is angry, hurt, and confused; her face shows everything she feels.

“Love, I’m sorry, but Alpha Mark may have had something to do with this.” Colin holds her trying to comfort her.
