Time is passing painfully slow for Colin, and he’s been on the phone more than he cares to be, but he has to try and get ahead of the damage his brother might cause him. Colin texted Ben and told him what happened to Moon, but it wasn’t safe to call him and discuss it now. Colin asked or rather demanded that Ben contact his father as soon as possible. Colin needs all the information he can get as to what Alpha Mark may have done to Moon, and Jake Woods might be the only person that knows.

The Doctor here has ordered countless tests on Moon, but they still can’t find a reason as to why she is so cold and appears to just be sleeping. Nothing will wake her, but Colin takes small comfort in the fact that she seems fine in every other way. The Doctor said she could probably be moved safely so long as Colin’s pack doctor is there to monitor her when she arrives there.

Colin has been making arrangements to leave David’s pack and head for his own. After so many phone calls and messages to the allies he has, and fortifying his own pack, Colin is drained. The uncertainty and not knowing what will come next is something so far out of his comfort zone that he is starting to snap at people over little things.

Zach, Jessy, and Meg were picked up about an hour ago to return to Big Springs Pack and hurry things along. Chris borrowed a car from David and took off for Twin Falls Pack to take care of things on that end. It was getting late, and Colin knew he and Moon would be spending the night here. Colin has no intention of leaving her. He did shower and change only because he couldn’t stand to reek of Jamie any longer.

He spent the whole night sitting in her room and is tired and sore from barely sleeping, but he just couldn’t sleep with her like this. Colin is sitting in Moon’s room as he waits for David to arrange a ride for them back to Twin Falls as well. Colin strokes her hair and runs a lock of it through his fingers as he watches her for any sign that she might just wake up suddenly. Her steady, shallow breathing and the heart monitor’s beeping are the only sound in the room.

We can’t just sit here. Farrell is grumbling loudly again. He isn’t used to feeling so helpless, and it isn’t a feeling he is enjoying. He worked hard to never be vulnerable again. Colin agrees with Farrell, but there is nothing they can do for her. So, sitting here is all they can really do. Colin hopes that Doc. Lewis will have an idea, but it’s a long shot, and Colin knows it. How much can he possibly know about a white wolf and one that has been trapped in a human body? Colin also feels guilty about making her stop the shift. Maybe if he had just let her, it would have been better; perhaps that is the reason she is like this now. The thoughts and doubts swimming in Colin’s head threaten to drown him as he places his head on the bed next to her.

“Please wake up. I’m sorry.” He whispers into the blanket.

The door opens, making Colin lift his head to see David standing there.

“Your ride is ready.” David tilts his head, still eyeing Moon suspiciously. “Colin, we have known each other a long time. I have always been a friend to you, haven’t I?”

Colin has known David for a long time. They were in the Academy together. They had even been friends in a way. Not close friends or anything but friends non the less. Colin is just waiting for him to ask again what happened. David has always been on the nosy side, and this must be killing him to not know what happened in the woods. Colin also knows that one of the only reasons David went to Big Springs Pack was to meet Moon.

While their packs are neighbors, David was quick to tell Colin that he had never met Moon, and while that seemed odd to Colin at first, after everything Ben told him about Alpha Mark it makes much more sense now. When Colin first heard about how Mark had tried to hide Moon away and possibly suppress her wolf. Colin is angry about it, but he clearly sees that he has done the same thing. He begged her to stop the shift and is reluctant to tell anyone what she is. Colin finds he has much more sympathy for Mark now.

“So, are you going to tell me what really happened?” David is still standing at the door staring at them.

Colin is thinking fast. He has no intention of telling David anything, but he also doesn’t want to alienate David. So far, he has been on Colin’s side and would like to keep it that way and not have him run to make a deal with Caleb.

“You know I would love to tell you what happened, but I just don’t understand it myself.” Colin decided that a half-truth would be better than a total lie. “I just know her wolf is suppressed, and the Doctor from my pack was trying to work with her to fix it. He told her returning home might do the trick, but then all this happened, and she was in so much pain when she was shifting, I mean more than the normal amount of pain, David. I have never heard someone scream like she did. I begged her to stop the shift, and she did, but she passed out in the process, and here we are.”

David is quiet for a moment, but his face softens slightly. When he nods and turns to leave, the nurse and Doctor come in to unhook Moon from the monitor. Colin assumes that David is satisfied with the answer. Colin also has the feeling that if David hadn’t been, then Moon and Colin would have been staying a while longer in David’s pack as his guests.

Once Moon is disconnected, they start bringing the gurney back into the room. “Can’t I just carry her?” Colin asks. His tone is flat, and so is his face, but his heart is pounding inside. He just needs to get her out of here and home. He likes the thought that his home is her home now.

“I suppose.” The Doctor slowly says, and Colin wastes little time scooping Moon up and holding her close to him. He hopes she can feel what he feels. The warmth and thrill of the contact make Colin’s blood rush. The nurse fusses with folding a blanket to bring with them as Colin moves for the door. He can’t get out of this place fast enough.

Once they are loaded in the SUV, Colin is happy to see that it’s Jess in the driver’s seat. “Ben thought it would be easier if we just took one of Big Springs Pack’s cars. Emily even packed up some of Moon’s things, and they are in the back. Colin looks back and sees stacks of boxes and suitcases. He nearly smiles at the sight of them; this euphoric feeling she brings him is dangerous; he’s already too dependent on it. Colin has already refused to let go of her. He plans to hold her in his arms the entire way back to his pack. He’s not even sure he can or will give her up to Doctor Lewis. The feeling of her fitting perfectly in his arms is not something he is willing to give up anytime soon.

He can’t help but nuzzle in close to her breathing her in. She will be his weakness, and his only thought is to keep her safe. If she would just wake up and hold him or even yell at him again, anything but this stillness.

“Please wake up for me, Love. ” Colin begs low in her ear as they drive down the winding road out of David’s pack. Moon’s eyes flutter but never open; Colin finds himself holding his breath, “You can hear me can’t you?” Colin pleads, hoping with every fiber of his being that she can hear him just a little. She still feels cold, but Colin has to hope that she knows he’s here with her.
