He Is Not Alone

Saturday morning, the Director of the FBI is playing with his son in the living room in Alexandria, VA, outside of Washington DC. The special on the Foxes of Colorado comes on as the two play on the floor. The Director’s son stops playing to see the foxes running around the field. One red fox is shown being cared for by a volunteer. As the Director watches the piece with his son, he realizes that the man in the video seems familiar. By the end of the interview, the Director is on the phone starting an investigation on Will Smith.

Will and Amy have no clue the reach of the news special. During the spring they both continue with the Wild Life Animal Sanctuary without a care in the world. Andy, the sanctuary director, however, has been receiving phone calls regarding Will. Today, he receives a visit from the local office of the FBI, wanting to see his employment information and any background checks that were performed. Andy is informed that this is supposed to be a confidential background check and that he is not to notify the individual. There is a chance that there is nothing to be concerned about and they might have the wrong person. If it is the right person, they also don’t want to spook him into running again. Andy agrees and nothing is said to either Amy or Will.

Amy and Will seldom have any interaction with Andy, however, they both notice that he seems even more distant. Neither of them are concerned and fail to check into the reason any further.

Several weeks passed and Amy and Will keep working at the sanctuary without any issues. Meantime back at the FBI, reports came into the Director’s office that it appeared that Will Smith was indeed Will Smythe. He wasn’t sure what to make of it. There was some suspicion that Will Smythe had something to do with the Secretary of State’s sudden retirement and with the President’s death. But nothing could be proven and the issue was dropped. Special Agent Susan Johnson had confirmed that Will Smythe passed away about the same time that Kimberly and the President had a falling out. Two other agents disappeared and their bodies found in FL. The notes indicated that Agent Johnson asked them to perform some surveillance. Shortly after that she took a trip to Mobile and suffered a breakdown. Was Will responsible for all of this? If so, how and what should he do about it?

Over the next few weeks, more information comes into the FBI. Details of when Will Smith came on the scene, the money transfers, purchase of the motorhome and car, the sale of the old car and motorhome. They were able to track his use of credit cards and his reservations with Thousand Trails. It soon becomes apparent that Will was in all the right places for each of the events with the Secretary of State at the Mall of America just before the falling out with the President, the loss of two agents in FL, with Agent Johnson in Mobile, then the trek across the country to Colorado. With all the evidence piling up, Will Smythe, AKA Will Smith will have to be arrested.

The Director remembered what he had seen and experienced with Will over a year ago. He knew that Will had the capability to make someone do what he wanted them to do. So, he figured that he would have to both take Will by surprise and overpower him. He hoped that a dozen agents would do the trick. He wanted Will alive if possible, but he also wanted Will out of the way.

Meantime Will and Amy were spending more and more time with the animals. Andy had forgotten about the FBI and the staff found that Will and Amy were masters at working with the animals. Will had been spotted several times training the animals. He never said anything that they could tell but the animals that he worked with seemed to understand exactly what he wanted them to do. The Veterinarian staff enjoyed working with both Amy and Will as all they needed to do was tell either one of them what they wanted to do to which animal and they made it happen. Exams were quickly becoming less stressful for the animals and staff. The wolves were especially easy to work with. They would simply come to the examination area, jump up on the table and allow the staff to look over them as if they were trained dogs.
