Chapter 29 Upset

Layla didn’t know what Wesley brought her there for or whether he was angry. He rarely expressed his feelings on his face. Therefore, few people knew what he was thinking.

As time went by, Layla’s legs were numb.

After Wesley finished reading the page, he put the book on the coffee table. He stood up and picked up his coat. After taking two steps, he looked back at Layla. “Don’t you want to leave?”

Layla came back to her senses. She hurriedly grabbed her bag and followed Wesley.

They arrived at the parking lot. Knowing Wesley was going to see Amy, Layla felt that she shouldn’t get into the car and didn’t do that

Why? Do you want me to invite you to get into the car?Wesley grabbed the car door and became solemn

ButLayla saw the chill in his eyes, so she quickly opened the car door and got into the car.

Wesley hadn’t mentioned anything since they met.

Because he didn’t mention anything, Layla was more upset.

Layla might feel better if Wesley was straightforward, and that was better than torturing her with such fear.

Wesley was driving fast. He shortened the 40minute drive to 20 minutes

When they arrived at school, it was 1:55 p.m.

Just put me down here,” Layla whispered, breaking the silence in the car

After passing the traffic light, they would arrive at the school. Layla didn’t know which school Amy talked about, but she knew Wesley would not be kind enough to send her to the school.

Layla, do you remember what I told you?”

Layla turned to glance at Wesley. She compressed her lips and

nodded.

Don’t do that again.” Then, he said, “Get out of the car.”

Layla was stunned but quickly realized that he was talking about blacklisting him on the phone, so she nodded and opened the car door to get out of the car

As soon as she got out of the car, the green light turned on, and Wesley’s car sped past her, throwing dust on her face,

Layla had no time to wipe the dust and ran to the school. There were only five minutes left. If she didn’t run, she would be late

She tried her best to run, but reaching the school gate took six

minutes

Layla panted and wiped her sweat. She dared not to stop and continued running to the classroom.

When she arrived, Amy signed her name at the door, and Wesley stood beside her calmly. Many people in the classroom looked at him, and some secretly took pictures.

Although it was an internal lecture of the school, Amy used to be a student of the school, so the hospital arranged for her to attend the lecture.

Students in other majors could also attend the lecture. Only graduate students in the same major as Layla needed to sign in. Amy signed in to complete the task assigned by the hospital, and Wesley didn’t need to do that

Layla walked over, panting. She picked up a pen and wrote her name on the form.

Amy glanced at her in surprise. “Layla?”

Then, she realized something. I almost forgot you were also a student of this school.”

“Doctor Brooks.” Layla nodded to her as a greeting

“Let’s go in. The professor should be here soon,” Amy said with a smile and took Wesley’s arm

Layla pretended not to see what Amy had done. She walked quickly to the classroom and found an empty seat to sit down.

Her forehead kept sweating, and the wound was soaked in sweat. She felt painful and itchy, as if countless bugs were gnawing on the wound

There were so many people that the classroom had almost no empty seats

Amy pulled Wesley and walked to Layla. Then, she said, Layla, let’s share the seat and sit closely.”

Layla looked at Amy and the crowded classroom. She could only move aside. The vacated room was just enough for two people to sit closely

The famous professor was invited by the school. There was only one class in a semester. Layla took out her notebook and took notes while listening.

Amy was absent–minded. She whispered to Wesley, “Wesley, I’m so sorry. I don’t want to feel bored, so I asked you to accompany me.”

“It’s okay,” Wesley said peacefully and wasn’t impatient.

“The hospital arranged for me to be here, so I have to be here. This professor is indeed marvelous. He is the only doctor who successfully performed surgery on a patient with advanced cerebral hernia and extended his life by ten years.”

Wesley was quiet. No one knew whether he was listening to Amy or the professor

Amy was satisfied that Wesley could accompany her to such a boring lecture

However, people were always insatiable. When they got

something, they would expect more, just like Amy to Wesley

every request, she always felt the sense of alienation was an invisible gap between them

The servants at home could do all that for her and even better than he did, but she would not fall in love with the servants

What Amy wanted was not the superficial considerations.

The lecture lasted for an hour. Wesley excused himself to go to the bathroom after the lecture started for ten minutes, and Amy persisted for 20 minutes.

When the lecture ended, Amy asked Layla, “Are you going to the hospital? We can go together.”

Layla rejected her with a smile, “No need. I’ll take the subway.”

Why do you always stand on ceremony? We are colleagues and schoolmates. Are you going to spend the rest of your life without communicating with others?”

Thank you for your kindness, Doctor Brooks. I have something else to do later and will not return to the hospital.”

Amy frowned. When she found that Layla refused her firmly, she didn’t try to persuade her. “Okay, goodbye.”

Layla nodded and watched Amy leave. Then, she packed her things and walked out of the classroom.

Some classmates left the classroom behind Layla, discussing where to have fun at night

To a bar?”

Which bar? Do you know a bar in Azure City? It was closed down two days ago.”

Are you talking about the biggest bar? I haven’t been there yet. Why was it closed down?”

“I don’t know. I haven’t been there either. Its minimum charge is eight thousand dollars. Do we deserve to go there?”

Layla stopped suddenly. The student talking behind her didn’t notice that and bumped into her.

Why did you stop all of a sudden? What’s wrong with you?” It was a young man who spoke. He looked at Layla aggressively and probably wanted to show off in front of the two female students around him.

I’m sorry,” Layla apologized, “Do you know why was the bar you mentioned closed down?”

Layla remembered that she was hit by an iron bar that night but didn’t know anything afterward. She didn’t know how Zachary took her to escape. Could that be related to what happened that night

Did it have something to do with Zachary

How could we know? You are so hilarious.”

Layla was worried. She said sorry to the students and turned to

leave

While walking towards the subway station, she called Zachary, but he didn’t answer
