Chapter 28 Are You Settling Accounts With Me? 

A huge panic enveloped Layla. She tremblingly removed Wesley from the blacklist and took a deep breath. 

She comforted herself. “It is okay. Maybe he doesn’t know.” 

She thought he might have never called her and didn’t care about her because she was insignificant. 

When Layla thought about that, she got relaxed and no more 

nervous. 

She went to the bathroom to wash up. Standing in front of the mirror, she lowered her head and separated the hair on top. The wound was scabbed and couldn’t be seen easily. 

Layla dressed herself up and went to the hospital. 

She sat on the bus in a trance, looking through the window at the towering building on the opposite side. 

Suddenly, her phone rang. Layla trembled all over with fright. 

She hurriedly took out her phone and saw that it was a message. Then, she was relieved again. 

[There will be a lecture at the school at two o’clock this afternoon. Please remember to attend it.]

When she got off the bus, a car sped up and stopped in front of 

her.

Layla looked in the familiar direction. She bit her lip and mustered up the courage to say, “Mr. Harrington, I need to arrive at the school at two o’clock in the afternoon.” 

Wesley didn’t speak and drove the car. 

Layla was frustrated. How could she persuade him to do 

anything? 

If he were a reasonable man, he would not appear there.

Hearing the sounds in the kitchen, Wesley tugged at his collar and stared at the kitchen. 

After about thirty minutes, Layla finished cooking and put the food on the table. She went to Wesley and told him to have lunch. 

She was shocked when she found that he was casually flipping 

“Does it look familiar?” Wesley raised the notebook and asked. 

Layla clenched her hands, and her palms were sweaty. The feeling was as embarrassing as being caught by the teacher while reading extracurricular books in class. 

Layla thought that they would never meet again, so she returned the money to Wesley. 

Wesley turned to the last page and took out the bank card inside. He asked, “How much is there?” 

“Fifty thousand dollars.” 

Wesley fiddled with the bank card. Compared with those checks of millions of dollars, fifty thousand dollars was like a bowl of rotten rice next to a table of delicacies. 

His careless behavior was full of contempt and sarcasm, which made Layla blush. 

“It’s the cost of college,” she explained. 

Wesley put the card back and casually threw the notebook on the sofa. The move was not violent, but it made Layla’s heart skip a beat. 

“Are you settling accounts with me?” Wesley’s eyes fell on her face, and he was still expressionless. 

Layla bit her lip and said nothing. 

“Okay, let’s settle accounts.” Wesley suddenly stood up and approached Layla. 

Layla subconsciously took a step back. 

He stood in front of Layla, looking down at her condescendingly. “The lawyer’s fees were normally 1.5 million dollars in your parents‘ lawsuit. Your brother had been hospitalized for two years. The costs for his major and minor operations and medicine were 1.8 million dollars.” 

“The total is 3.3 million dollars. After you paid me 50 thousand dollars, there are still 3.25 million dollars. How do you plan to pay it back?” 

“I…” Layla grabbed her clothes and whispered, “I will return it slowly.” 

“Return it slowly? In one year, two years, or ten years? How long do you want me to wait?”

Wesley picked up the fork and tasted the dishes Layla cooked. Layla stared at him closely, afraid he didn’t like the dishes she cooked, and blamed her again. 

At that moment, her stomach rumbled untimely. 

Layla hurriedly covered her stomach. She blushed and secretly glanced at Wesley, but he didn’t seem to hear that. 

Wesley put down his fork and glanced at Layla with a trace of disgust. “What did you cook?” 

“What’s wrong? Are they unsavory?” Layla asked anxiously. 

Wesley didn’t answer but left the table. “Clean up.” 

Layla looked at the untouched dishes on the table and picked up the fork to taste them. They were not as unsavory as imagined. 

She compressed her lips and could only take away all the food on the table. 

After Layla cleaned up the kitchen, Wesley read in the living room as if he had no intention of leaving. 

She boldly went to him and said, “Mr. Harrington, I’m going to school to attend a lecture at 2:30 p.m.” 

Wesley seemed to haven’t heard Layla’s words and turned a page with his slender fingers. 

“Can I leave now?” Layla gritted her teeth and said that. 

Wesley finally glanced at her without the slightest emotion. Layla clenched her fists nervously. 

At that moment, Wesley’s phone rang. 

He stopped–looking at Layla and picked up the phone to put it to his ear. 

“Wesley, didn’t you say you would go to school with me? Have 

you set off?” Amy’s voice was on the other end of the line. Although Layla was close, she only heard the word “school“. 

“I’ll set off soon.” 

Layla secretly breathed a sigh of relief. 

“It’s so kind of you. I’ll wait for you at the school gate.” 

Wesley hung up the phone, and Layla thought he would leave immediately, but he was still reading a book. Layla wanted to say something but dared not to urge him, so she could only wait silently.
