Chapter 27 Something Terrible

The assistant felt his question was unnecessary.

Wesley returned to the apartment. After entering the room, he didn’t turn on the light

In the darkness, his footsteps were clear and rhythmical.

He found the position of the sofa accurately and lay down on it. The moonlight passed through the floor–to–ceiling windows, leaving long, bright light on the floor.

The shadow of the curtain moved on the ground like the skirt of a dancing woman.

When his neck felt something hard, Wesley touched it and quickly got up

“Turn on the light.”

The room automatically lit up, and Wesley saw a thick notebook in his hand.

Layla woke up from the nightmare. She opened her eyes and found it light outside.

The next bed was empty. Layla didn’t know if Emily had been discharged from the hospital or gone out

She wiped the sweat from her forehead and subconsciously looked for her phone. However, she soon realized that her phone

She lay on the bed and looked at the snowwhite ceiling in

trance

Layla hadn’t been as idle as that for years and was used to being busy. When she suddenly became idle, she felt at a loss.

Zachary came in and saw her staring at the ceiling in a daze

He paused. Then, he went to Layla with breakfast and opened the meal boxes for her. “How about going for a walk after

breakfast?”

Layla was taken aback. She turned to look at Zachary.

Zachary lowered his head and compressed his lips as if the words were not spoken by him.

“Can I go out?Layla confirmed timidly.

Zachary paused and put the lids of the meal boxes on the cabinet. Yes.”

Layla smiled. She felt that Zachary seemed less hostile towards her in the past few days, so she wanted to hold Zachary’s hand, but he avoided her.

Layla’s hands froze in the air, and her eyes were full of disappointment

Zachary saw that from the corner of his eye and said uneasily, Eat quickly. It will be cold soon.”

Layla suppressed her disappointment and nodded. She picked up the spoon and sipped the soup

Have you had breakfast?”

Yes.”

That was the end of the conversation. The sister and the brother used to talk about anything with each other. However, they became taciturn to each other as time passed by.

They hardly had much to talk about when they didn’t quarrel, so their relationship became increasingly estranged.

Layła felt powerless on that problem

It was just like she didn’t know why Wesley helped her before, why he had pestered her for six years though he didn’t love her, and why he refused to let her go.

There were too many incomprehensible things in the world.

After breakfast, Zachary took Layla for a walk in the hospital park. The sun was shining and warm

Layla raised her hand to cover her eyes and looked at the sun. The light fell into her eyes from between her fingers, dazzling and fascinating

Zachary stopped and looked at the woman beside him. She was in the most petite hospital gown, but it was still loose.

And he couldn’t figure out why she was so worn when she liked that man so much. She stood under the sun as if she would disappear when the wind blew

Layla was skinny

Is he married?Zachary didn’t know why he asked that and regretted it soon.

Layla turned to look at Zachary in surprise. It took a few seconds for her to realize who he was talking about.

“Didn’t we agree not to talk about him?Layla felt a sharp pain in her heart. What a beautiful and sacred word “Marrywas!

Unfortunately, it would never belong to her.

“OK.” Zachary turned awkwardly and thought he was crazy.

Seeing Layla’s frail appearance, he felt sorry for her.

Zachary wondered what he was thinking at that second.

If the man was not married, it didn’t matter if he was aged.

It was not that it didn’t matter when Zachary thought it didn’t matter. The aged man had never thought of marrying Layla. Otherwise, why was she single after years

Zachary resented himself for feeling sorry for Layla.

They didn’t walk far when Layla suddenly said, “Zachary, my injury is almost healed. I want to be discharged from the hospital.”

No.Zachary categorically vetoed it. The shortlived harmony between them disappeared. What was on his face was the gloom that Layla was most familiar with and the least favorite.

Layla bowed her head silently, no longer refuting.

Zachary lifted her hand to look at the time and said to Layla, Go back by yourself. I’m leaving.”

Are you going to class?Layla stared at his back and asked expectantly

She had stayed in the hospital obediently, so he should return to

class.

Zachary was shocked by the question. Then, he left without looking back.

Layla stood where she was and got the answer. She stared after Zachary but didn’t even dare to speak.

Ten days were neither long nor short.

Layla didn’t know how she spent the ten days but lived every day in a muddle.

Zachary reluctantly picked her up from the hospital. He hoped Layla could continue to live in the hospital, but the doctor disagreed, and neither did Layla’s hospital.

Zachary had to admit that he felt sorry for Layla when he saw her aimlessly on the bed in the hospital.

Layla took a taxi home. When she got home, Zachary put down her belongings and was about to leave

Zachary.Layla stopped him

What’s up?”

My phone.Layla reached out to him. I am going to work. It’s inconvenient without a phone.”

Zachary glanced at her and tried to find the expression that shouldn’t be on her face. However, he failed.

It seemed that she was for the convenience of work

Zachary took the phone from his pocket and reluctantly put it in her hand. “You haven’t seen that man for ten days. Aren’t you living well? Layla, it’s not so hard to give up on something. I hope you don’t disappoint me again.”

Layla felt the pain when the phone landed on her hand. She gritted her teeth and wanted to say something, but Zachary had left.

Layla didn’t have time to care about Zachary. She turned on her phone quickly and checked the call records and the messages.

Fortunately, there were no missed calls or messages that shouldn’t be there

Zachary was right. She also wanted to give up. If Wesley didn’t go to see her anymore, she could live a peaceful life.

She checked her phone randomly but suddenly found a terrible thing. She couldn’t find Wesley’s contact information.

Layla was flustered, and her breathing was uneven

Zachary had checked her phone

What was more frightening was that she didn’t know if Zachary
