Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 250

Izabella basked in the sunlight, her thin hairs clearly visible. Her skin was already pale, and now under the light and shadow, it looked even more transparent. Izabella noticed Liam coming, so she walked in with the lunch box.

She glanced at the receptionist who had attended to her earlier but said nothing.

"Let's go upstairs."

Liam cleverly understood what she meant, "I'll inform the front desk later so they let you in directly next time."

"Thanks," she said. It would save a lot of time, and she wouldn't have to wait outside.

Liam walked on Izabella's right side, took the lunch box from her, and glanced at Madeline.

Even though it was just an ordinary look, Madeline felt a chill down her spine.

From the entrance to the elevator, thanks to a pass card, she smoothly made her way to the top floor president's office.

Liam handed the access card to Izabella, making it easier for her to come and go.

"Where's Brett?" Izabella asked as she took the card.

She had just called Brett, and it was Liam who answered.

"Is he still in a meeting?"

Liam nodded. No one could really persuade Brett when it came to work. Izabella took out her phone and checked the time-it was already 12:20 pm. How serious could the issue be if they were still in a meeting by now?

Liam didn't discuss work matters with Izabella; he just put the lunch box on a nearby table and said, "Ma'am, I'll call President Windham right away. You can have a seat here, and I'll summon a secretary." "You go ahead. No need to worry about me."

Liam left, and shortly after, a female secretary walked in, poured a glass of water for Izabella, and eyed her respectfully but curiously.

Like that woman at the front desk, her first thought was: This is the president's wife?

They had imagined the president's wife differently, but she was actually ordinary-looking, albeit with delicate features. She was modestly dressed and had brought a lunch box, possibly a typical housewife.

"Ma'am, here's your water."

"Thank you." Izabella never stared at someone for so long; she took a discreet glance at the other person while sipping her water.

She couldn't help but notice how gorgeous all of Brett's company employees were, whether it was the front desk lady or the secretary before her now.

Beautiful women easily caught the attention of other women.

Izabella eyed the secretary's name tag.

-Janet.

She was curvy and sexy, wearing a sleek professional outfit that accentuated her figure. She pulled up her skirt to reveal her long, slender, and smooth legs.

Her long, wavy hair draped over her shoulders, making her face look small. She had large eyes, a tall nose, and a sharp chin. As she leaned forward, Izabella could see her noticeable cleavage. This was Brett's secretary?

Suddenly, Izabella felt uneasy. Her expression remained unchanged as she tested the water temperature and decided to take out her medicine.

Janet glanced at her hand and asked, "Ma'am, are you sick?"

"Stomach problems," Izabella replied, pinching one pill after another.

Janet was caught off guard by Izabella's sudden arrival.

She couldn't help but recall what Kaley had told her, feeling that the president's wife before her was very different from the description.

What fierce and cunning woman? At first glance, she seemed gentle and the epitome of a housewife.

What was there to be alert about a housewife who stayed at home? Janet couldn't understand why Kaley had warned her to be on guard against Izabella.

Janet was more shrewd than the front desk attendant, Madeline. Despite her modest appearance, she maintained a warm smile.

Izabella may not remember her past, but she had her own way of judging people. Perhaps it was because she had once run the Salotti Group that she was quick-witted and saw through Janet's sinister motives.

As Izabella finished her medicine, Janet's face showed a friendly smile. "Ma'am, did you come specifically to bring lunch for President Windham today?"

"Yep."

"President Windham is still in a meeting. He's been in it since 8 this morning. He often works like this, almost every day. I need to remind him to eat. By the way, ma'am, have you eaten? President Windham treats us employees very well. We all have meal packages, and the food in the staff cafeteria is comparable to a three-star hotel. If you haven't eaten, I can have someone bring you something, as well as some fruit. I'm not sure if you can eat it with your stomach condition. If you'd like, I can wash the fruit for you.

"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I am President Windham's secretary. I joined the Windham Group two months ago. My name is Janet, and you can call me Janet." Although Janet seemed enthusiastic in her attempts to please Izabella, the arrogance in her eyes was unmistakable, as if she were the owner of the company. Izabella looked at her with interest, "I've already eaten, but thank you. However," she paused, "did you say you joined the Windham Group two months ago?" With an air of pride, Janet raised her chin, "Yes, it's very difficult to be hired as the Windham Group president's secretary."

Janet casually mentioned her double degrees which was earned abroad.

She had expected to see surprise in Izabella's eyes, but instead, she just calmly nodded and responded, "I see."

Then the conversation ended, and Janet's prepared "modest" remarks were rendered useless.

Izabella's calm expression made it impossible to tell what she was thinking.

Janet took a deep breath to calm herself. Actually, part of the reason she was able to join the Windham Group was thanks to Kaley. She had been waiting for Izabella since she came to the Windham Group two months ago, but she hadn't even seen her in person.

Now that she finally met Izabella, Janet remembered what Kaley had told her. Clenching her fists, she knew she had to get things done today, or who knew when she would have another chance.

Brett getting a divorce was something everyone would be happy to see, and it would be beneficial for her as well.

Janet glanced at the door to make sure no one was there, and then asked, "Madam, how long have you been married to President Windham?"

Izabella casually replied, "Quite a few years now."

"So, how come you guys don't have any kids yet?"

Why did she bring up the topic of kids? Izabella had a feeling that there was more to Janet's question and that she wasn't as innocent as she seemed.
