Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 249

"At first, I was serious. Why don't you come and hang out with me at my company? It's not like I'm crazy jealous, but it's just that you haven't been spending enough time with me. I mean, even Stevenson has been talking to you more since he arrived."

Izabella gave him a side-eye, rolled her eyes, and turned her face away. "Brett, do you remember the promises you wrote down before?"

Upon hearing this, Brett immediately sat up straight.

Brett's possessiveness was too strong, not only towards other men but even when facing a cat, he could get jealous. There was a notebook in the bottom drawer of the bedside table, filled with promises Brett had written down.

- I shouldn't get upset and distrust my wife for seeing her eat with another man. Shouldn't throw a cat away because I saw my wife petting it. Shouldn't tear up a magazine because I saw my wife staring at the male star on it, and threaten to boycott him. —

I, Brett, promise not to be a jealous husband, not to be irrationally jealous, not to show pettiness at all times, to give my wife freedom, respect her, cherish her, trust her, love her and spoil her for a lifetime. I, Brett, will be generous and magnanimous in the future, and if I break this promise, I am a pig.

Brett thought of the last sentence, and his face stiffened for a moment. He had never written a promise like this in his entire life before, and the last sentence was something Izabella had forced him to write. If Izabella hadn't reminded him, he would have almost forgotten about the promise.

It was not that he didn't care, but he had too many things going on daily, either busy with work or keeping an eye out for potential love competitors, even when Izabella was kept at home all day and hardly saw anyone besides the housemaids.

He didn't limit Izabella's internet access, but he couldn't help but check her phone every time he came home from work.

Brett was sitting on the couch, watching Izabella about to leave, and suddenly hugged her waist and pulled her into his arms. Then, he leaned his face against her thin back, and a hoarse voice squeezed out o his throat: "I am a pink, oink, oink."

Izabella did resent his dominance a little, but now hearing him acting like a pig, she couldn't help but burst into laughter.

Brett's arms were powerful, holding her waist like a chain trapping her. She tried to get up, but it felt as if there was a huge rock weighing down her waist, making it impossible for her to rise. She turned to look back but she could only see the top of Brett's head and not his face, probably because he thought it was embarrassing and buried his face in her back.

"Brett, you're really barking like a dog." Izabella was both annoyed and amused.

In the end, Brett got what he wanted and ended up in bed, hugging Izabella and kissing her non-stop.

It had been nearly three months since Izabella came here. Other than occasional stomachaches, life had been pretty normal.

She began to have the idea of wanting to go to work, but with her hands like this, what could she do? She stared at her ugly fingertips, unable to pick up or hold anything. She couldn't even use a keyboard, so even if she went to work, she would be useless.

Izabella frowned, and at 11 in the morning, she took out her cell phone to send Brett a text message, as usual, reminding him to eat.

After waiting for ten minutes without seeing Brett's reply, Izabella simply called him. The phone was answered after about five or six seconds.

"Madam?"

"Are you Liam? I am Brett's wife. I want to bring him some food," Izabella explained.

The receptionist seemed a bit surprised but remained polite: "I'm sorry, Madam, President Windham is having an emergency meeting right now, and his phone is temporarily with me. If you have any urgent matters, you can tell me first, and I will inform President Windham later."

Izabella hurriedly said: "No urgency, I just want to remind him to have lunch."

After hearing this, the receptionist smiled: "Madam, it's not that easy to remind President Windham to eat over the phone; you have to come in person. He could forget about the lunch I put on his table every day."

"Has he been very busy lately?" Izabella felt that Brett had been looking thin and haggard these days, even though he still came back home on time to accompany her and didn't work overtime. However, Brett had never talked about work, fearing she would worry, and she never asked since she didn't understand.

"He has been quite busy, like today's meeting has been going on for three hours since this morning."

"Isn't he going to forget about lunch then?"

"Exactly, that's why I said you have to come in person to remind him."

Izabella suddenly had an idea and said, "Thank you," before hanging up the phone.

Tiara was busy cooking, and the meal was almost ready. Izabella hadn't even approached when she smelled a delicious aroma. "Tiara."

Tiara turned to look at her: "Yes, what's up?"

"Do we have any thermal containers at home?"

"Thermal containers? I think so. I'll have Katie look for one in a while. Are you planning to take some food out, Madam?"

"No, I want to pack some food and take it to Brett's company."

Tiara showed a meaningful smile. This sweet couple! She immediately separated some dishes and packed them.

Izabella's hand would tremble, so Tiara helped her put the food in the container.

Tiara covered the thermal container: "Madam, since you are going to bring lunch to President Windham, maybe you should eat lunch first before going."

"I know." She had a severe stomach illness, which everyone in the house knew, so they watched her eat three meals a day.

Izabella went to eat, and Tiara helped her pack the container and put her noon medication in the bag as well.

People with stomach illness need to eat less but more frequently, because eating too much can cause bloating, and when hungry, the stomach will be painful.

The butler, knowing Izabella was going to the Windham Group, called the driver and asked him to wait at the door. Tiara carried the lunchbox and helped Izabella get into the car.

When they arrived at the Windham Group just after 12 o'clock, she got out of the car with the lunchbox and looked at the tall building in front of her.

The sky was clear blue, and the sun was shining brightly, making her eyes sting and sore.

She couldn't help feeling nervous, her steps heavy, standing under the sun for a while before she took a deep breath and went inside.

The automatic doors slid open, and the receptionist glanced at her before asking, not-too-rudely, who she was looking for.

"I'm here to see your President Windham," Izabella said.

The receptionist's face twitched a bit before asking, "Do you have an appointment?"

"Nope."

"Sorry, Miss, but you need to make an appointment if you want to see President Windham. I can't let you in without one." She glanced deliberately at the lunchbox Izabella was carrying, raising her eyebrows slightly and flashing a look of impatience.

She'd been working here for six months and thought she'd seen it all. This woman wanted to see President Windham, brought a lunchbox, and didn't even have an appointment? Clearly, she was seeking attention.

Brett, young and successful, was a handsome and wealthy man - practically every unmarried woman in the company secretly imagined him as their dream husband. Of course, the receptionist wasn't immune to his charms either.

She sized Izabella up once more, noticing she didn't resemble the usual seductive, cunning women who tried to woo Brett.

Typically, the women attempting to seduce Brett dressed provocatively, often in revealing clothes even in cold weather. Izabella, on the other hand, dressed more conservatively, her scars preventing her from wearing short skirts and sleeves. She wore a long shirt and jeans that covered her body securely.

The receptionist couldn't identify what brand Izabella's clothes were, but from her demeanor, she seemed like a quiet, gentle girl.

She snickered internally, her eyes filled with disdain.

Izabella felt confused. She'd only spoken a few words, yet the receptionist was already looking down on her like she was plotting something. "Fine, I'll give him a call," Izabella said, putting down the lunchbox and taking out her phone to call Brett.

But before she could dial, the receptionist urged her to leave. "Miss, if you want to make a call, please do it outside. I have customers to attend to." Izabella glanced at the waiting area next to them. Why was she being asked to leave? What was going on?

She wasn't stupid. She could tell from the receptionist's tone and gaze that she mistook her for someone with bad intentions.

Reluctantly, Izabella stepped outside to make her phone call.

The receptionist who'd just attended to Izabella watched her leave, her eyes growing more scornful.

"Madeline, why did you make her wait outside? What if President Windham actually knows her?"

"No way, didn't you see the lunchbox she was carrying? Everyone knows Liam prepares President Windham's lunch. She's definitely up to something."

Another receptionist shook her head. "But still, you shouldn't have kicked her out like that. We have a waiting area, and she mentioned making a phone call. You should've let her make the call first."

"Are you dumb? That phone call was just an excuse. Once she couldn't reach him, she'd want us to call him and trick President Windham into coming out."

"As if President Windham could be so easily fooled."

"Anyway, I already sent her out. If she gets through on the phone, she can come back in." Madeline rolled her eyes.

Just then, the elevator dinged. Madeline paused, only to see Liam rush out.

"Liam, are you off to deliver President Windham's lunch?"

Liam was well-known for his calm disposition and always treated everyone kindly. Hearing Madeline's question, he shook his head: "No, I'm here to pick someone up."

As Brett's assistant, who could he be picking up in person?

Madeline's face paled slightly, exchanging a glance with the other receptionist in disbelief.

Because the only person around was the woman outside carrying the lunchbox. Could it really be her?

Madeline attempted to comfort herself, thinking that even if it was her, it wouldn't be a big deal. People came to the Windham Group for business, and who would bring a lunchbox for that? This woman was most likely a maid from President Windham's household, bringing him lunch.

However, Liam's next words left everyone in the room jaw-dropped.

"Madam, why are you waiting outside?"

Madeline's face turned gray. "Madam?" Was this "madam" who she thought it was? Was this the president's wife? That mysterious woman married to President Windham?
