Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 240

"You know those photos are fake, so why won't you give me a chance to explain? Why do you misunderstand me?"

"I'm sorry." Brett bowed his head in apology, not daring to look at Izabella. He could imagine how disappointed she must be.

He was afraid of Izabella leaving him and even more afraid of her saying "Let's end this."

"Is 'sorry' all you know how to say?" Izabella asked emotionlessly, turning her head to look above Brett's.

His hair was messy, and his hair were filled with dirt and grass, making him look like he had just rolled around somewhere. There were bloodstains on his white shirt and injuries on his face. Izabella asked, "How did you get these injuries?"

Brett's hand, hanging on his thigh, clenched into a fist. Afraid that Izabella would worry, he wanted to tell her he had hurt himself by accident.

But this thought was harshly cut off by Izabella. "Don't lie."

Misunderstanding was the biggest problem between them, causing mutual suspicion and distrust, regardless of whether the lies were well-intentioned.

Brett admitted honestly, "I got into a fight with Nathaniel."

Izabella wasn't too surprised, "So you two do know each other."

"You guessed it?"

"I guessed during lunch with him. He kept trying to sow discord between us. I thought it was just his little trick, but I still fell for it," Izabella said, her face showing pain.

Seeing Izabella's desolate expression, Brett's heart filled with panic. He wanted to reach out and hug her, but he didn't know what kind of embrace could prevent her from getting hurt. All he could do was blame himself. "It's my fault. I was too scared."

Izabella never expected to hear the word "scared" from Brett. He had always been arrogant and proud, unskillful in apologizing or admitting fault, let alone being scared of something.

This was probably related to his living environment and status. Facing problems, he would solve them. Fear only caused regression, while Brett was always fighting forward.

Now, as he looked anxiously into her eyes and said "I'm scared," Izabella was shocked, but it was also heartbreaking.

"Can you tell me what you're afraid of?" Izabella asked.

Brett didn't hide anything from her, confessing everything he had experienced in the Windham family.

For example, the person who fought for the Windham family inheritance, his parents' fatal car accident, and Nathaniel, a child born to a mistress.

"Nathaniel is your half-brother?" Izabella was startled. She had guessed Nathaniel might be Brett's business rival, his mortal enemy, but she never imagined they were blood related.

The Windham family was a vast clan. How could they tolerate Nathaniel's surname, so Izabella never thought about that.

"Yes, he believes my parents killed his mother, and after being brought to the Windham family, he never changed his surname. He's the vengeful type, always competing with me since we were kids, even over people. He's ruthless in achieving his goals, cunning, and sometimes I can't see through him."

Izabella couldn't help but shiver, finally understanding why Nathaniel approached her in the first place.

"Why didn't you tell me before?"

"I was too furious, and when he sent me those pictures and accused you of fooling me..." Brett's voice trailed off. "Anyway, I was wrong, and I won't accuse you again."

In fact, she was also at fault. If she had been honest and didn't overthink, there would be no misunderstanding between them.

After resolving the misunderstanding, Izabella decided not to let Brett continue kneeling. She whispered, "Stand up. I won't lie to you again, and I'll definitely stay away from Nathaniel."

She despised people with ulterior motives, and after learning about Nathaniel's character, she wanted to be as far away from him as possible.
