Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 170

Brett glanced at Liam with a cold stare. Liam looked back at him, frightened, and tried to change the subject, saying nervously, "Should we explain to Mrs. Windham?" "Explain what?"

"Of course, explaining that you didn't cut off her brother's hand."

Brett's eyes narrowed as he muttered, "She's already made up her mind that I'm guilty. Explaining won't make a difference." In a sense, he had brought this suspicion upon himself. If he hadn't consistently used Lucas as a tool to intimidate Izabella, she wouldn't have placed the blame on him.

"You should have someone investigate and determine the real culprit," suggested Liam.

Agreeing with the suggestion, Brett replied, "Then, Liam, go ahead and take care of it."

However, before Liam could proceed, Brett's expression softened, and he appeared deep in thought, as if preoccupied by another matter. Suddenly, he interrupted, "Wait, I have a question for you." "From outsiders' perspective, do Izabella and I look like a terrible couple? She says that I've never treated her like my wife."

Liam treaded carefully and asked, "President Windham, do you want me to tell the truth?"

Having worked with Brett for so many years, Liam was quite adept at handling delicate situations. He had mastered the art of keeping a straight face through years of living on the edge.

Liam said, "The way things are now is not so bad, but your attitude towards her in the past was beyond terrible..." In his heart, Liam thought Brett had been cruel and heartless.

With a serious expression in his eyes, Brett inquired, "What can I do to make her truly feel like my wife?" The gravity of his question was evident.

Liam found it challenging to bear the weight of that gaze. After all, he was merely an assistant. How had he become an advisor on relationships too?

Liam responded, "Mrs. Windham may be lacking a sense of security. Consider this: your initial marriage was an unhappy one. The wedding ceremony felt more like a press conference than a celebration of love. There wasn't even a proper wedding ring."

The mention of the ring triggered a realization in Brett. Despite being married for over four years, he and Izabella had never possessed a proper wedding ring set.

Brett glanced at his own bare finger, recalling the time when he had impulsively purchased a cheap silver ring from a market stall and tossed it at Izabella, lacking the sincerity and thoughtfulness that such a gesture should have held.

The most ordinary ring which Izabella had worn for four years. However, at some point, the ring disappeared. Had it been broken, lost, or thrown away by her?

What was once an insignificant matter now felt like a thorn in his heart.

It didn't matter. He'd buy Izabella a new ring, a more expensive and thoughtful one.

Returning home, Brett went straight to his bedroom upstairs and rummaged through everything. Eventually, he found the ring in a desk drawer.

The ring had the most common design-a plain band with no engravings. The surface had once been smooth and shiny, but now it was covered in scratches and dried bloodstains.

He picked it up, rubbed the surface with his fingers, and carefully wiped off the bloodstains.

The next day, Brett took the ring to a jewelry store and bought a new ring, selecting one with the same size.

This time, he spent a big sum of money on the new ring.
