Jenny and the rest were being interrogated in the Bardoff City Police Headquarters. She didn't mind, of course. She was one of the victims in all this, after all. All that worried her were Alec and Evan since they'd participated in the gunfight earlier. Who knows what instrument of the law might be held against their necks?

Stephanie was in another interrogation room, and sitting across from her was Leonard himself. "So, you don't know anything that went on?"

"Mhm." It's not like Stephanie was lying. She really was clueless.

Leonard nodded. "Alright. You can go now."

"Huh? That's it?" Things had been so tense when she came. She'd imagined the situation to be more complicated than it was right now.

Leonard stood up, ready to escort her out. "Come on then."

Stephanie followed behind him, still confused. "What'll happen to the others?"

"You mean Jenny specifically, don't you?"

"Yeah. She's innocent, by the way."

Leonard stopped, then turned back to look at Stephanie. "You really don't remember me?"

Stephanie cocked her head curiously. Did they know each other?

"We sat together in freshman year. You always pointed out my weight, remember?"

Stephanie gaped like a fish. "You...how is this possible?"

"What? I told you I could lose weight." Leonard grinned. He'd recognized Stephanie from the get-go. She was just as sweet and cute as she used to be.

Stephanie beamed. "I really couldn't tell it was you. Wow, you lost a whole lot of weight!"

"Yeah. Come, you can wait for your friend outside. She'll be alright." Leonard gestured at some benches outside the station, then eyed his watch. It shouldn't take long now.

Stephanie didn't sit. "Will she be in there for long? I can stay here to wait for her if so."

Leonard sighed. "Alright then."

Stephanie began rocking on her heels in anticipation while Leonard went back inside.

She didn't blame Jenny for coming over. In fact, she felt guilty for having involved her in something so dangerous again.

"You know him?" Paul asked, coming over to her side. He'd been waiting by the door since Stephanie and everyone else was lugged back to the station.

Jenny's task for him was to alert the police at the right moment, asking specifically for the new Deputy Commissioner instead of anyone else there who'd already been bribed by the families. Paul didn't know who this Leonard guy was, but he trusted Jenny's plans. They always worked, after all.

Stephanie's smile faded when she saw Paul, who, in return, grumbled internally about her reaction. Was she that unhappy to see him?

Surprised to hear that Paul was the one who called the police, she said, "Thank you."

No matter what, Paul still saved her.
