Chapter 12

The next morning I woke up with a note on my pillow. I started dreading it again, I knew something was up. I opened it up and began to read.

Jamie,

I have to go. I can’t be around you without you being in danger. You may see me around but I’m not going to be close to you. I do not want you hurt because of me. I love you very much.

Jason

I was so pissed. “Why didn’t he talk to me about it?” I began to cry. “He is leaving me, again.” I just laid there in bed. I couldn’t move, for a bit. When I pulled myself together, I slowly grabbed my phone and texted Alex: “Jason broke up with me.” I didn’t wait for his reply. Instead, I got up and began to get ready for school. When I was done I passed the now empty guest room and went down stairs and into the kitchen. I saw Harrison, and began to cry some more.

“It’s all your fault isn’t it?!?! You told him to didn’t you?!?! He should have talked to me first!!!!”

Harrison pulled me into his arms and hugged me. “It’s for your own good right now. He will be back when he is done with his mission.”

I looked up at him “What mission? He said he would protect me and he is now leaving me?!?”

Harrison sighed. “He is protecting you by leaving. He needs to kill Slade and the others like him.”

I broke out of Harrison’s arms. “With or without him, I am in danger. Does it really matter if there are a little bit more people out to get me?” I stormed out of the room with that, I grabbed my bag and ran off to school.

Right when I walked into the band hall this morning, Alex ran up and hugged me. “I’m so sorry! Come over to my house tonight. We can get your mind off of it with some guitar hero or something.”

I was a little startled. “I-I don’t know Alex, I just want to be alone I think.”

Alex pulled away, and put his hands on my shoulders. “Nonsense, text your dad. After school meet me outside and we will walk to my house.”

I sighed knowing he wouldn’t take no for an answer. I pulled out my phone and texted Harrison that I was going over to Alex’s house after school. He said okay, he probably figured Alex wouldn’t take no for an answer or that I was still mad at him.

The school day passed by quickly. I saw Jason a lot, but I couldn’t talk to him. I tried and he ignored me. I feel so pathetic. I met Alex outside and we walked to his house to go play some guitar hero. After playing for a while we ate dinner with his family and then went back to his room.

“I don’t think I’m helping you much, am I?” I heard him ask, I guess it was written on my face that I was hurting.

“I’m sorry Alex, I love him.” Alex quickly grabbed my arm and pulled me into him. He was two inches away from my face. I think he was about to kiss me but he didn’t. I think reading my shocked eyes he dropped his head to my shoulder. “W-what was that?”

He looked back up. “Jamie, I like you very much.”

I pushed back from him and stepped away from him. “How do you know my real name?” My eyes were really wide, I was afraid.

Alex looked down and then back up at me. “I am a vampire.” He flashed his fangs. “My family and I escaped a long time ago.” He pulled me back into his arms. “I’m very lucky to be close to my queen...well ex princess.”

I was in shock, and I couldn’t help but to shake. “Your tan!” I exclaimed.

“I’m not allergic to the sun.” He said back quickly.

“I-I got to go.” I began to pull away again, but I couldn’t this time. He wouldn’t let me go.

He put one of his hands on my chin and had me stare into his eyes. “Don’t lie to me. You don’t have anywhere to go but home and I know you’re mad at Harrison and are upset that Jason is gone. I can help you.”

I was terrified. “What do you want from me Alex? Your kind took over my kingdom!”

Alex let go seeing I was scared. “I’m sorry Jay, I can help watch your back. I had been before Jason came back.” He put his hand on my cheek. “I have been captivated by you ever since I met you.” A lot began to run through my head. I didn’t know what to feel at this moment. Alex kissed me softly and I do not know what took over but I began to kiss him back passionately.

When I finally realized what I was doing, I quickly pulled away. “I-I can’t do this. It’s too soon.”

He pulled me close to his chest. “I’m sorry.” He paused. “I should be getting you home.” he grabbed my hand and he walked me home. I hugged him at the door and told him I will see him tomorrow.

He left as I walked in. I saw Harrison sitting in the living room. “So he told you he was a vampire?” He asked out of nowhere.

“You knew?” I was confused as to why he didn’t tell me.

“Yeah, Jason knew too. He figured Alex would step up in his absence. That doesn’t mean we trust him, but we know he cares about you so we don’t think he will hurt you.”

I sighed. “I noticed.” I pause. A lot was running through my mind. “D-do you mind if I go retire for the night? I have a lot to process right now?”

He got up and hugged me. “Not at all. Just know that Jason and I love you very much and we do what we do because we love you and care about you.”

I hugged him back. “I know.” I kissed his cheek and then walked up stairs. I went straight to bed.
