Bite Me

Colin came too in the musky little hunting cabin. The wolfbane and tranquilizer wore off faster than whoever shot him thought it would. Colin opens his eyes to see he is alone in the cabin. He wants to laugh at the stupidity of his captors. He can smell Jamie all around him, and it makes sense now. Jamie was always a moron. Colin keeps looking around, and while the wolfbane is wearing off and he can hear Farrell grumbling, Colin still can’t shift.

We need more time to get this crap worked out of our system. Farrell proceeded to curse Jamie.

Colin stands and sees some dirty clothes on the floor. He picks up a pair of shorts snorting as Jamie’s scent wafts off them. Reluctantly he slips on the purple basketball shorts grimacing at the color and the owner of them.

Great now we smell like a douchebag. Farrell grimaces.

Colin doesn’t bother to reply. Farrell knows how he feels about the situation. Colin takes his chances exiting the cabin and moving quickly into the trees. Heading in the direction he hopes will lead back to Big Springs Pack, he’s mostly following Jamie’s fading scent and hoping.

Moon is not about to leave without finding Colin; she and Chris are trying to think of something when a thought occurs to her.

“I don’t think David knows you are here, does he?” Moon blurts out. She can see he’s still alone, which strikes her as strange. David would have more than just Jamie come to deal with intruders. Something is very off.

We should make him tell us the truth. He’s lying. He’s not part of David’s pack. Something is wrong. The voice is loud and clear in her head now, and Moon agrees with it completely.

Moon was about to say more when she heard the snarling of wolves. Jess and the other wolf she is with found some trouble. Zach moved in closer, his sandy wolf growling as more wolves advanced on her and Chris.

“Oh good, they are on time.” Jamie snickers, pleased with himself. “well, its been fun, cutie.”

Jamie turns to leave as the three wolves continue to advance. Chris has shifted, and he and Zach have Moon between them. Jamie didn’t even see him coming. Colin tackles Jamie to the ground, and the men scuffle a moment. When Jamie shifts and Colin doesn’t, Moon begins to panic.

She sees Jamie bite down on Colin’s arm, and the voice in Moon’s head is screaming, making her still aching head feel like it might explode. She holds her head, closing her eyes as she loses control of her body. She can feel every bone move and grow as mussels feel like they are ripping and splitting apart. She can’t stop herself from falling to her knees and screaming. Her teeth shift and grow, and as hair starts to cover her skin, it’s all as white as snow.

Colin gets out of Jamie’s jaws and rushes to the screaming Moon. Chris has already linked him that he will take care of Jamie. Jess joins Zach in the fight against the wolves advancing on Moon. They had been startled by her screams for just a moment, but that moment was enough for Zach and Jess to get the upper hand on them.

Colin is in a complete panic over Moon shifting. He knows one of the wolves advancing on Moon. The wolf is one of Caleb’s Gammas, Dalton, and he’s just as ruthless as Caleb. Colin knows all too well what kind of pack Caleb runs and who he likes to keep around him. The last thing Colin wants is for Dalton to see Moon shift, then Caleb will know what Moon is.

Colin can’t let her shift. He gets to her, curled on the ground. Her hands grip her head even as the claws grow and start piercing at her skin. Moon is rocking as waves of pain crash over her body. The site alone kills Colin, and he wants to stop it.

“Moon Baby, listen to me. You can’t shift. You have to stop, trust me and listen to me. Stop now; you have to breathe. It’s okay, I’m okay.” Colin is lying a bit as Chris fights off Jamie and Jess and Zach keep Dalton at bay. Another wolf joins the mix, and Colin is happy to see she is one of his wolves. Things aren’t looking good for them getting out of this alive. Moon is shaking and crying out in pain as she tries to fight the shift. She is losing the battle, and the wolf is howling in her mind fighting to get out.

“Please just wait a little while longer,” Colin murmurs in Moon’s ear, and he isn’t begging Moon to stop, but he is pleading with her wolf. Farrell is clawing at his mind as he can feel her wolf emerging. The stronger her wolf pushes its way forward. The more Colin feels, the powerful of the bond they share. Everywhere his skin touches hers, tingles in waves of exhilaration. All he can think about is stopping her from shifting.

Now is not the time to relish in the feeling of her in his arms. Her trembling body is soaked in sweat, but Colin notices the shifting has stopped. The sound of the raging wolves snarling and fighting comes rushing to his ears as Moon stops screaming. She goes limp in his arms, and Colin briefly panics.

He has little time to do anything for her as teeth sink into his back, pulling him away from her. Dalton has his teeth sunk deep in Colin’s back as blood gushes from the wound. When Dalton suddenly lets go, Colin spins around to face him. Dalton is frozen, staring behind Colin at the still half-shifted Moon. She still has white hair covering most of her arms, but it’s fading quickly. What has Dalton staring at her is the white glow of light coming from her. It is not around her. It is actually coming from her. She is unconscious and glowing on the ground.

Colin turns to face Dalton, but it is too late. Dalton howls out a retreat, and Colin knows he’s rushing off to tell Caleb they finally found one. They finally have the white wolf Maddox, and Caleb always wanted to find. Colin is bleeding badly, and there is no way he can chase them. He wouldn’t leave Moon right now even if he could as he kneels next to her, she looks like herself again, but she’s barely breathing.

“We need help, and we need it now.” Colin gives the order but doesn’t look to see if anyone is carrying it out. Wolves howl in the distance, and Colin braces for the worst. Chris has linked some of their warriors, but they may not get here in time to save them from what’s coming for them.
