Aurelia gently slid the deadbolt back, her heart pounding as she was about to make her escape. But before she could take another step, she felt a powerful grip on her arm, pulling her back into a firm embrace.

Panic surged within her, and she lashed out with punches and kicks. "Let go of me, you jerk!"

“It's me. Stop struggling,’ came a deep, familiar voice close to Aurelia’s ear.

Recognition hit Aurelia like a bolt of lightning, her eyes widening in shock. It was the man she'd seen at the dessert shop.

“Who... who are you?"

The man removed the lifelike silicone mask from his face with his deft fingers, revealing chiseled features that left her speechless.

"Leopold!" she gasped.

Was this what they called the art of disguise? Had he mastered the ability to change faces? No wonder he was the CEO of the world's leading high-tech corporation!

Leopold scooped her up effortlessly and settled onto the couch, cradling her in his lap.

Curiosity overcame her anxiety as she took the mask from his hands, examining it with interest.

"I've got one for you, too.” He retrieved a box from under the coffee table, revealing a woman's "face" inside.

Wow! Excitement bubbled within Aurelia as she delicately removed the mask from the box and placed it against her face, looking into the mirror.

The mask was cool to the touch and surprisingly breathable. Tailor-made for Aurelia, it fit her facial structure perfectly, almost indistinguishable from her skin.

“If Megan knew you've slipped away with this, she'd be livid.” Aurelia said.

Leopold leaned back on the couch with a mocking smile on his lips. "No matter how much she schemes, she's no match for me. And she’s not that smart. She's only a Siren.”

"Siren?" Aurelia snorted with laughter, thinking it was an apt comparison.

"She's probably camped out in the lobby right now, hell-bent on catching you."

Megan had shadowed them all afternoon.

They had changed hotels, and she would have followed.

Leopold took Aurelia's hand firmly in his. "Tonight's so perfect at the Twilight Club. Let's go out for a spin.”

It was in these stolen moments that they found their private world. Masked again, they left the room together and went to the lobby. As expected, Megan was perched on a sofa near the entrance, eyes glued to the door.

Aurelia and Leopold had changed hotels, but Megan believed Leopold would appear. Little did she know that Leopold and Aurelia strolled right past her.

A thrill raced through Aurelia. No wonder Leopold relished these secretive encounters so much - they were undeniably exhilarating.

They crossed the street to the park opposite the hotel.

A quick check in her compact mirror confirmed the mask’s flawless fit. It was great this kind of advanced technology wasnt widely available, or crime rates would skyrocket.

A sudden thought struck her. She thought she should get one for William. He couldn't always go around wearing cartoon masks. A realistic, high-tech silicone mask would be the perfect camouflage and would blend in easily without seeming out of the ordinary.

"You should make one for Kane, too," she suggested. “Let him wear a mask when he's out for safety. Maybe make two for him. Kids can be rough, and it might get damaged.”

Leopold seemed oblivious to her ulterior motives, his lips curling in amusement. "That's an idea worth considering.”

Aurelia kicked at a pebble, her mind elsewhere. "I can't stay here too long. William might come back and not find me"

Leopold's brows knitted. "Are you worried that William can't find you or that Arnold can't find you?" Her lips twisted into a sardonic smile. "What's the difference? I'm not your wife anymore. It's reasonable for me to be with Arnold, isn't it?"
