Leopold didn't delve further, fearing arousing suspicion. He switched the topic with a playful tone. “Is Avery really that hard to win over? You've been after him for three years and he’s still not yours?" Leah pouted, "Look at you! You're seen as nothing but a dandy through the Hawthornes’ eyes. We're two of a kind, both struggling in love. Maybe one day Aurelia will remarry and you'll be full of regrets.”

Leopold choked at her sharp words. She was quite a spitfire.

"I have to go to work now. You can go entertain yourself."

Leopold stirred his coffee, "I heard from Hanson that she's ill and might not survive this year" Aurelia was slightly taken aback, “Is she really sick or just pretending? Magnolia has played the sick card, faking a terminal illness to get a bone marrow transplant. You should be careful.”

Leopold's expression turned grave, “I will arrange for a doctor to check on her. We'll find out whether she's telling the truth.”

Aurelia sighed, "I hope it's not Tanya and Skyler. Family members hurting each other is just too painful.

It was all because of that scoundrel, Chad, leaving a mess behind for Leopold to clean up.
