The kids decided to take Chirpy up to the playroom.

Chirpy landed on the pile of building blocks. "Build with blocks," it chirped.

This was Chirpy's favorite game, which it often played with William.

"Alrighty," the kids sat down on the carpet, and Chirpy started passing them the blocks.

"Chirpy, I want a cube," Nina commanded.

Chirpy waddled through the blocks, then stopped in front of a cube, picked it up with her beak, and handed it to Nina.

Nina gave a thumbs up, "You're amazing, Chirpy!"

She rewarded Chirpy with a little treat. Proudly, Chirpy arched its neck and flapped its wings. "Chirpy is awesome, Chirpy is

awesome," it boasted.

Next were Mira and Skyler.

Mira asked for a triangle, and Skyler wanted a square.

Kane didn't speak up and felt it was best to minimize his interaction with Chirpy, especially since he wasn't sure if it understood

their earlier conversation.

But that was not the case for Chirpy. It strutted over to Kane.

"Kane, Kane..." It was its way of saying it was his turn.

Kane broke into a sweat. It clearly didn't understand and still called him 'Kane'.

He quickly covered up, "lI know you miss Kane, but he's not here right now. He'll be back in a bit," he lied.

Chirpy tilted its head, looking at him with a puzzled expression, "William, William."

Kane breathed a sigh of relief, "I want a circle."

Chirpy handed him a circle, then waited for her reward.

Kane stroked her little head, "Good job, Chirpy," and then gave her a treat.

Skyler glanced at them, his keen senses picking up something off.

Chirpy was always extra affectionate with its little owner, William. After fetching items for others, it would wait in front of them for

her treat, but with William, it would fly onto his shoulder and nuzzle his face.

After enjoying her treat, she would say, "Chirpy loves William, and William loves Chirpy."

Pets mimicked their owners, and since William was quite the chatterbox, so was Chirpy.

But now, Chirpy was treating William just like everyone else.

That was downright odd.

"William, how cChirpy isn't getting all cuddly with you today?" Skyler asked.

With that, Kane remembered that detail too, and his heart leaped into his throat.

"I... I've got a cold today, and she knows not to get too close when I'm sick because I've told her it's contagious," Kane explained.

"Oh, is that so?" Skyler scratched his head. "Chirpy's so smart, knowing you've got a cold and all."

Kane boasted, "Of course, Chirpy is the smartest bird on the planet."

Skyler blinked, "Do you think it's tfor Chirpy to find a boyfriend? She's a mature little parakeet now."

Nina exclaimed, "Wow, Skyler, you're amazing! You even know she's a girl."

Skyler chuckled, "I'm a biologist, how could I not know whether an animal is male or female?"

Kane added, "Uncle... I mean, Dad's tried to find her a mate, but she's picky. He's still on the lookout." He almost let it slip, almost

calling him Uncle Arnold.

Nina giggled, "Our Chirpy is like the high society belle of parakeets and deserves bringing in a match with noble blood, intelligence,

and strength..."

She said these words because her Mom had said that as the eldest daughter, she wouldn't be married off for an alliance but would

bring in a husband.

If there were no little brothers, she would be the heir, destined to live a single life, allowed only to date, not to marry.
