The only thing he could do was to stay cooped up in his room.

Otherwise, Chirpy would definitely tell he wasn't the real William.

Animals had a much sharper sense of perception than humans.

Leopold knocked on the door.

"William, you still sleeping?"

"Uh, yeah, I want to catch a few more sleeps. Not really in the mood to hang out."

Leopold was worried, thinking maybe William had a fever, and started fishing for his keys to unlock the door.

Kane heard the jingle of keys and his heart skipped a beat. He bolted out of bed to open the door.

"Uncle Leopold, I'm good, just a bit groggy."

Leopold touched his forehead, checking for a fever. It was normal, which was a relief.

"Did you take your vitamin C?"

"Yeah, I did." He nodded.

Skyler cbounding over, "William, Chirpy’s here!"

Chirpy soared straight into the room, landing on his favorite perch.

"William, William, William..."

Kane was at his wits' end, flopping back onto the bed and pulling up the covers.

Parrots had incredibly sensitive hearing and usually recognized humans by voices.

Even though Kane and William were nearly identical twins and their voices were alike, there were subtle differences, perceptible

only to those with the keenest of ears.

"Chirpy, I'll play with you later, okay?"

Chirpy cocked his head, staring at him with those little eyes, making Kane's skin crawl. "What's up... what's up..."

Kane thudded his heart. ‘Chirpy is onto me. He knows I'm Kane, not William."

"Kane... Kane..."

Kane was at a loss for words. "Kane's out with Mom and they went to have sfun."

Nina and Mira cscampering in after. "Haha, Chirpy is looking for Kane."

Kane sighed internally. Chirpy wasn't looking for Kane but recognized that he was Kane, not William.

But thankfully, Chirpy was just a parrot, so no one would take his words too seriously.

Leopold looked at him lying in bed, growing his gaze more intense.

Just then, Chirpy took flight from the bedside.

"William, William, William..."

Where was his little master?

Kane was fuming. Sitting up, he said, "Alright, knock it off. I'll play with you, happy now?"

He glanced at Leopold. "Uncle Leopold, I need to change, can you step outside for a second?" He just wanted to get his dad out of

the room before Chirpy spilled the beans.

Leopold, sweating bullets, said, "You're not a little girl, why do I need to leave for you to change?"

Kane pulled a face at him, "Boys need privacy too, you know."

Leopold, speechless, could only herd everyone out of the room.

Kane locked the door behind them and even wedged a chair under the doorknob for good measure.

Chirpy was now standing on the desk, giving him that strange look again.

Kane gently stroked the little bird's head.

"Chirpy, let's make a deal, okay? Can you pretend I'm William? This is what William wants you to do. If you keep calling'Kane',

William will be mad when he gets back, and he won't pay attention to you anymore."

Chirpy tilted its head, eyeing him.

Kane wasn't sure if the bird understood, which was frustrating.

"Chirpy, today I'm William, not 'Kane,' got it?"

"William, William, William," Chirpy replied.

"That's right, you callWilliam." Kane hoped the bird got it. Parrots were smart, and Chirpy was one of the brightest. He lifted his

arm for Chirpy to perch on.

"Let's go, Chirpy, we're gonna have sfun."

"Fun... fun... fun..." Chirpy echoed.

Kane opened the door.

Skyler, Nina and Mira were waiting in the room across the hall. Leopold was there too, looking expectant.
