The maid brought Raines a steaming cup of hot chocolate and then went back to fetch another fresh one.

Fredric chuckled lightly. "Hot chocolate is best when it's sweet." Fredric had a sweet tooth.

Raines took a sip and said, "I've got to watch my health. I can't have too much sugar and need to keep it in check." Fredric replied, "Raines, if you're not feeling well, you should stay hand rest up. Don't go doing anything too strenuous." The implied message in his words was not lost on Raines.

"Fredric, you're not still holding that last incident against me, are you? Honest to God, if it had been me, may lightning strikedown." Raines wasn't afraid of making such bold oaths.

In this dog-eat-dog world, nice guys finished last, and the scoundrels lived on. The meaner and more ruthless you were, the better you survived.

Fredric shrugged. "As long as it wasn't you, that's all that matters. I was just talking, don't be so sensitive." Raines said, "I'm all about that carefree life and just want to be a free spirit, living the easy life. Plus, I've had a head injury. My health isn't great. Managing all those companies would be the death of me!" Fredric replied, "I don't want to suspect my brother and ruin our relationship. So I choose to trust you once more, and I hope you won't letdown." Raines said, "Someone's trying to setup and maketake the fall. I hope Leopold can find the real culprit and bring him to justice." Leopold said, "I'll find the person, alright. I won't accuse an innocent man, but I'll sure as hell not let the troublemaker get away." Leopold watched Raines act, wondering how long Raines could keep up the charade.

After lunch, the kids went for their naps. Skyler didn't have the habit of taking a siesta and went to the garden to feed the fish alone. And Raines joined him.

"You seem to have the most carefree days around here, Skyler. You always look happy. Don't you ever have worries?" Skyler shrugged, "I've got worries. Despite being a kid at heart, my body just keeps getting older. Annoying, right? Plus, my brother Geoffrey is always stirring up trouble. If anything happened to Leopold or Angel, I could never be happy again. What could possibly make Geoffrey chill out?" Raines shrugged, "Once he gets what he wants, he'll calm down, right?" "He will never get what he wants. People who play dirty never succeed," Skyler said earnestly. "I wish he'd see the light and becsomeone without desires like me. Leopold is generous. If Geoffrey changes, Leopold will forgive him and might even send him to live with Tanya on a Caribbean island. He could live there in peace every day, away from bad influences. Wouldn't that be nice?" A shadow crossed Raines' eyes as if obscured by a passing cloud.

"Tanya is on a Caribbean island?" he asked.

"Yeah," Skyler nodded.

"Does she live there alone?" "Nope, she has servants." "Why would she go to such a godforsaken place? She's not being held captive, is she?" "She's sick. Dad sent her there to recuperate. She can live peacefully there, away from harm and without a care in the world. Plus, she owns the whole island as the island queen." Skyler spoke calmly, scattering a handful of fish food.

The fish in the pond opened their mouths wide, scrambling to snatch up the food.

Raines narrowed his eyes slightly, a flash of cold light passing unnoticed.
