Chapter Nine

Craig sat me on his lap in the huge lounge as everyone sat together around the lit fireplace.

“Here, you haven’t seen your wolf yet” Daniel smiles handing me his phone as I stare at it wide-eyed.

I was huge! My fur was a deep brown, but it had streaks of blue running like lightning down it.

“That’s so cool” I mumble.

“Beautiful” Craig kisses me.

“The next week around you two is going to be gag-worthy” David groans.

“You’re just jealous because you haven’t found your mate yet” Craig laughs.

I could hear Vance, Tony, Pauline, and Lucien talking about how they were going to keep me safe as I eyed them warily.

“If someone is hiding her from both supernatural and the hunters, she’s important. There’s only one sort of supernatural who is able to do that sort of powerful spell” Pauline says.

“Who?” I ask as everyone looks at me.

“Guardian” Pauline says as the others gasp.

“They are a myth, no one has ever met one” Daniel says.

“What’s a guardian?” I ask.

“A guardian was said to be a prophecy herder. They always kept the balance between human and supernatural. Until hunters came about and wiped them out. I considered them all dead. They were the most powerful creatures to have ever lived.” Tony answers.

“So why would one be hiding me from everything?” I ask.

“If it truly is a guardian, then they must have knowledge of a prophecy that must come to pass with regards to you” Vance sighs.

“Great so we have a possible guardian that’s trying to hide me from the world because of some prophecy. But we don’t know who or why. Hunters may have my parents still alive somewhere, one may have been here too.” I sigh and rest my head on Craig’s shoulder as he kisses my head and strokes my hair soothingly.

“We will deal with this together” He murmurs.

“Boss! We found something!” The wolf girl from earlier runs in with a piece of paper in her hand.

“What is it Lena?” Lucien takes the paper and looks at it confused.

“Lucien?” I murmur.

“Do you know who this is?” he says as he turns the paper around.

“CARLA!” I exclaim as I see an image of Carla and her parents with their removals van.

“Your friend from that video call?” David takes the paper and examines it.

“Hunters don’t take humans…What is this about?” Daniel says snatching the paper, smelling it.

“Smells…odd” David murmurs as I take it from Daniel.

“That’s what I smelt earlier… I have to make sure they are alright” I said getting up and taking my phone out, ringing Carla as it just kept ringing.

“Come on Carla, answer the phone” I beg.

The phone goes to voice mail.

“If anyone hurts her…” I growl angrily.

“We’ll find her Serena” Lucien says to me.

“Serena? Hold up…Serena Baldo?!” Lena exclaims looking at me in surprise.

“The one and only” Daniel smirks at me.

“Your parents saved my life when I was a pup…I owe them a debt, and in that, I owe you it. I will help you with whatever you need” Lena kneels before me as I look in shock.

“For a start, please don’t kneel at my feet, it’s weird” I laugh.

“It’s a show of respect” Lucien smirks.

“No, it’s a show of submission. I don’t want submission.” I shake my head.

“You are going to be an alpha you will have a lot of wolves submitting to you” Lucien sighs.

“Then they can do so by shaking my hand or hugging me. Something other than kneeling at my feet. If we are all in this together then we are a family, not a royal family and their subjects” I growl.

“Calm down baby” Craig says, stroking my cheek as I nuzzle into his hand, instantly feeling the rage subside, but lust fill me.

I kiss him hard as his arms go around me.

“Oh for god sake” David growls as I smile into the kiss.

“Lena, I need you to find this girl and her family” Lucien orders.

“While those two seem a little busy, I can give you a few details from what I’ve seen in Serena’s mind” Pauline laughs as she begins to give Lena details of where Carla and her family lived and where they were heading to.

“If her dad’s police we should be able to track him well, especially if he’s transferred” Lena nods and walks out with some of the other guys of the pack.

“So what do we do now?” Tony asks.

“We go on as we would before. Act normal, we don’t know if whoever is hiding Serena knows that she has shifted or that she’s here. So we keep a close eye, she doesn’t go out alone, ever.” Lucien orders.

“She won’t be alone, ever” Craig growls lustfully as I giggle.

“Don’t expect to see those two separately for a week Vance” Daniel smirks as I flip him off as I stand in Craig’s arms.

“Jealous twins, so jealous” I smirk.

“Play nicely cupcake” Lucien smirks.

“Cupcake?” Pauline smiles.

“Yeah, she was always making cupcakes with Cassandra, it stuck as her nickname. My little cupcake” he grins as I blush.

“Oh that’s perfect…” Vance smirks.

“How are you feeling old man? After shifting?” I ask Vance.

“Exhausted, mentally and physically.” He sighs.

“You have to keep shifting daily again, or it will get worse. You should go out with Serena from time to time with the boys to make sure you both get stronger” Lucien says.

“I fear without a pack I won’t ever be at my full strength as I lost my mate” Vance sighs.

“Lucien, can’t you take him in…This pack is yours right?” I ask.

“Well…Sort of…I was Beta, second in command for your father…But without knowing if he’s truly dead I am just looking after his pack” Lucien answers.

“Is there any way of welcoming someone new to the pack?” I ask.

“Direct descendants of an alpha can welcome them in can’t they?” Daniel questions.

“Well…yes, if they are strong enough…” Lucien looks to me with a smile.

“What do I need to do?” I ask, smiling towards Vance.

“You will both need to shift” Lucien says as I walk to Vance and take his hand.

“Have you got the energy for it tonight?” I ask.

“I don’t know…” he says.

“The sooner we do it, the better you will feel Vance” David says.

“Ok…Let’s do this and then go home” He nods as I help him up with Craig the other side as we help him outside.

I focus on shifting and already it feels easier as the boys look at me in shock.

“It shouldn’t be that easy yet…” Daniel murmurs.

I nudge Vance’s hand as his face contorts with pain as he screams out.

“Can Pauline help him?” I ask Craig in his mind.

“Serena wants to know if you can help his pain Pauline” Craig says to her as she steps forward.

“I’m afraid not” She backs off after touching his skin.

I whimper at Vance’s feet as he contorts with pain as he slowly shifts into his wolf.

“Vance” I cry as I nudge him gently with my nose.

“Touch your head to his, try and link to him through your mind as you do with us” Lucien says.

I do as I’m told as Vance whimpers on the ground, barely able to move.

“Vance…” I try.

“Come on Vance” I try once more as he whimpers out painfully.

“VANCE!” I scream in my mind as a surge of power flows through me and drifts into him as he looks up at me.

“Serena…What was that?” He says as I bow my front down playfully as I yip happily.

“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!” Daniel exclaims.

“See what?” I ask as Vance gets up, no longer struggling to move.

“I feel…New…I’ve never felt more alive…I don’t know what you did Serena, but, thank you” Vance nudges me with his nose as I hear Craig growl possessively beside me, he’s shifted too as he nuzzles against my side.

“MINE” He growls.

“Stand down Craig, I know” Vance nods as he begins moving about with more energy, he looked happy.

“You hold more power than you think Serena…Something more than wolf” Pauline comes towards me as her hand hovers over my body.

“She is of pure wolf blood, royal descendant, could that be it?” Lucien asks.

“I didn’t think any royal blood was left…” Tony murmurs.

“The Baldo’s are the last royal family left” Lucien answers.

“That may explain it…But I don’t know until I’ve done more research” Pauline says.

“Don’t hurt yourself old man!” David calls out as I see Vance running around quickly, but he stills suddenly as if hearing something as his head cocks to one side.

“Vance? What is it?” I pad towards him.

“Do you hear that?” He asks as Craig and I stand beside him as we sit and listen. Sure enough there’s a high pitch whistle.

Vance takes off suddenly towards it.

“Vance! No!” Craig calls out as he looks between me and Vance before taking off after him as I growl at the pain and follow quickly.

Soon enough Lucien and the others had shifted too as they followed us.

“Vance! Don’t listen to it!” Craig growls out.

“Vance! Stop! As Beta of this pack I order you to stop!” Lucien growls, but he doesn’t stop.

“Serena! Make the order!” Daniel urges.

“Vance! STOP!” I shout in his head as he tumbles over, whimpering as he crawls to me.

“Alpha…” Vance murmurs at my feet.

“I…I…I can’t be…My father is…” I murmur as I look over to Lucien.

“As part of the lineage you are with the pack and not your father, so you are Alpha” Lucien nods.

My eyes dart to Vance and the others in shock before I hear the whistle again. I feel a pull as if I need to find it.

“No Serena! Do not listen, it’s a hunter trick” Craig steps in front of me.

“Do you hear that? What is it Lucien?!” Lena bounds up to us as the group gets bigger.

“Hunters” He snarls.

“I think they are on the edge of the border, not quite on our territory” One of the other wolves says.

I step forward pushing past Craig as I look in the distance, smelling the air.

“Lavender…” I say.

“What?” Daniel asks.

“I can smell lavender on them”

The whistle sounds again as I growl in warning as some of the pack members I didn’t know started to move forward.

“Do NOT go to the whistle” I order as they step back.

“Yes, alpha” They murmur as I nod.

I howl into the night in warning at the hunter as the whistle stops and the figure and smell retreat.

“Everyone is to be more vigilant from now on. We aren’t safe” I order as I turn around.

“Yes, alpha” They say in unison.

“We should go home” Vance says as I nod as we head towards the house.
