If Sarah was at the hospital as well, Dorothy and Bianca would definitely try to provoke, or even hurt her.

Anne was concerned. She did not want her mother to get hurt when her father was still unconscious.

The door to the meeting room flew open and there were men and women sitting by the long meeting table, to whom Anne assumed were the experts Anthony had hired.

Anthony sat at the further end with Kathryn on one side and next to him were Dorothy and Bianca. Both Dorothy and Bianca stared at Anne coldly and she simply proceeded to take her seat next to Kathryn.

Anthony glanced at his watch and Kathryn took it as a hint to start the meeting. "Everyone should have a copy of the medical report. You all know that he is currently in a coma. Anyone here who manages to improve his condition even by the slightest will be rewarded handsomely.”

Everyone knew what she meant by it, that payment was not an issue if they had the talent worthy of it.

One of the men looked at the report and said, "His brain looks like a block of bean curd after it's fallen onto the ground. There's no coming back from that.”

"Even if he could recover slightly, it won't mean much because he still can't wake up,” another expert added.

The others frowned thoughtfully and it was clear that they were not optimistic about the situation. Anne scanned each of their faces, hoping that one of them would deliver good news, but her heart sank at the silence.

"We didn't pay you to come here and say those things," Bianca said, "be clear. Is my dad going to get better or not?"

"Um..we can't be sure. Trial and error is the only way here, and the results might not be that promising,” one of the doctors said.

Another agreed, "Yeah, there's no doctor on earth who would guarantee that he can cure a patient.” "So you are saying that there's hope?” Bianca asked.

"We can only try."

Anne had her own ideas, but did not dare to say a word. After all, treatments would cost money and she did not have any, which was why she turned to look at Anthony hopefully.

Dorothy sneered, "Maybe you are just dragging this out to earn more money."

Offended, one of the experts said, "Watch your tongue! As doctors, treating the patients is our top priority so don't you dare make that kind of assumption. We would be scammers if we promise you that we can definitely cure him!"

Bianca shot Dorothy a displeased look, before turning to smile at the others. "I'm sorry. My mom is just too worried. She couldn't quite control herself because she didn't sleep the whole night. Please forgive her."

The tension on the experts’ faces eased. As doctors, they had seen plenty of things throughout their careers and they could sympathize with the pain of the family members.

Anthony scanned every expert authoritatively and said, "Those who don't think there's hope, stand up."

The experts shot one another hesitant looks and stood up.

Anne's blood ran cold as more and more people stood. The people before them were world-class experts and if they determined that there was no hope, Nigel was never going to wake up again.

In the end, only three of them remained seated.

Anthony studied them sharply and said, "Explain."

"We can try, but there's no guarantee.”

"Yes. We belong to the same research center and we've been making progress in our research on brain death..."

"Are you sure you are not using Nigel as your lab rat?"
