Leaving Damian behind on his own.

They returned to Tommy's office, and Anne immediately pulled away. "Why did you take me here? I'm going downstairs."

"He is still mad, so he might come after you.” Tommy sat on the couch with his legs crossed.

Anne stilled hesitantly. Though Damian could not fire her, he seemed like the type to hit people, so she took her seat leisurely and poured herself a glass of water.

"Have you always been that reckless?" He watched as her lips reddened in contact with the hot water.

Anne knew what he was referring to and wanted to say no, but when she thought back to everything that had happened in the past, she realized she had always been reckless. Had she not gone to the bar back then, she would not have gotten into a physical relationship with Anthony, would not give birth to the triplets, and would not be in so much drama with Anthony since then. Those were all the consequences of her recklessness.

"It's courageous. I'll give you that.” Tommy tapped his finger on the armrest cheerfully, seemingly unaffected by his father's 'lecture’.

She asked, "You don't have it easy, huh? To be compared to Anthony since you were young. I didn't know, but anyone would be upset. Your father doesn't know about your overseas investment, though, does he?"

"Anyone can find out if they want to. It's a shame..." Tommy said sarcastically.

"Is your father why you act like a psychopath?" Anne made a bold guess that this was the reason why Tommy hated Anthony.

He shot her a cold look. "You are asking too many questions.”

Anne quieted down, as she did not really care about the answer.

"I'm traveling abroad, and your Mr. Principal is coming, too,” Tommy said.

Her eyes widened by a moment, knowing that this was about their investment in an oversea mine. He gave her a sidelong glance and said, "If someone bullies you, you can call me. You are working for me now, after all.

She studied the mysterious smile on his face and did not place much trust in the words he said. She stayed for a little while longer before getting up to leave.

Back in the office, she sat at her desk dazedly while thinking to herself, “So Lucas is traveling abroad? If it's about business, he will probably be gone for a few days, right?"

She stared at her phone, contemplating if she should give him a call. Now that she had found out about it, she could not pretend that she did not know.

Suddenly, her phone started ringing, and she jumped. When she glanced at the screen, she noticed that it was from Lucas. For a moment, she wondered if they had telepathy.

She stepped outside with her phone and answered when she was in the hidden corner. "Mr. Newman."

"Busy?"

"Nope. Slacking off."

He chuckled. "Dinner tonight?"

"Yeah. Sure.”

At night, Anne got off work in time and spotted a familiar car to the right as soon as she stepped outside. She ran over and asked, "Have I kept you waiting?"

"No. I've just arrived.” Lucas opened the door to the passenger seat.

"Thank you.” She went in and buckled up.

Lucas had not hired a driver and, instead, drove them to a high-class restaurant himself.

Like a young child coming home from school, Anne was starving but managed to contain herself from shoving food into her mouth violently in front of Lucas.

"I wanted to take the kids here as well but was worried that it may cause you trouble. Invite me to your place for dinner when I come home?" he said.

"I heard from Tommy and was about to call you when you called me first." She chuckled. "How long will you be gone? I will get prepared for when you come back.”

"I should be back within a week," he said.

"Alright. I will cook.”

"I look forward to it."

After dinner, Lucas sent her back to her apartment and stopped the car downstairs.

Anne put her phone away and asked, "Do you want to come upstairs?"

He glanced at the stairs and said, "maybe when I get back.”

Anne was surprised that he would refuse to go up but was relieved that he did. Though she noticed that Anthony was still currently in the Archduke Group, she still felt the pressure.

"Travel safe tomorrow." She did not insist and simply went upstairs to turn on the lights in her apartment before looking down from the balcony.

Lucas's car drove off into the distance as though they were only friends that were meeting for dinner.

Lucas was mature and thoughtful, so she felt safe next to him, but Anne did not dare to expect anything from him apart from friendship.
