Chapter 10

We are around the fire, Pearl is on my laps and her hands are wrapped around my neck. The wine has done a number on her and right now I know she just wants to sleep.

‘Why don’t you guys just go to bed instead of being boring?’ Sasha asks

We can all feel the irritation in her voice.

Sasha is not my favourite person, she has never been and she will never be. Twenty four months ago she sent me a friend request on Facebook which I was against, Pearl told me to accept it and her cousin tried to be funny on a few occasions but I think she finally got the message. Pearl’s mother unfortunately finally gave up, it was hard for Pearl. Considering she was just getting into her final year of school and our relationship was just beginning, I vowed I was going to be with her but I didn’t think I would ever get to a point where I would ask her to move in with me. Honestly I have always been forward and steadfast about what I want and Pearl is what I want. She finally accepted to move in after writing her final exams and we have been living together for the past eight months now and I must say they have been the best eight months of my life. She still tolerated Sasha and from the time she moved in their relationship seems better but I can still see the cracks. Sasha has an agenda and I am yet to see what it is. I am yet to know what that agenda is.

‘Leave us alone.’ Pearl says kissing my neck and I smile

‘Honestly you guys should just go to bed.’ James says

‘We will when we want to.’ I respond holding Pearl really close and I can feel her smile

‘I have an announcement to make.’ Sasha says excitedly

‘Do tell.’ I say

‘So remember the guy I have been telling you guys about? My boss right?’

‘Gabriel.’ James says rolling his eyes

He seems to like her but we all know Sasha wants a man that is already made. She has a twisted view of what her dream man is. We are doing well but we will never measure up to her ideal man.

‘What about him?’

‘I think he is starting to notice me now.’

‘Sasha you have been working at your job for two years, if the guy has taken this long to notice you then you might as well do yourself a favor and just leave him.'

‘Are you insane? I have been doing everything possible for him to notice me, I have worked my ass off for him to see me beyond board room meetings and coffee meetings. Gabriel is going to marry me, he is the man of my dreams and this is going to work out.’

‘Tell me something Sasha, I know this Gabriel guy gets under my skin but what is it about him? What exactly do you love?’

‘I want a man who is grounded, Gabriel is good looking to begin with. He is hard working, he has a life outside work. He has a best friend Musonda and a group of other friends. I think of late he is closer to Zac whose sister I am not a fun of. I have seen her around the guys all the time and she looks like a little slut that just wants to throw herself at Gabriel.’

‘So this man is not even your man but you are already jealous of the women around him?’ James asks bewildered

‘James I have been at this for the past two years, there is no way that I am going to allow any bimbo to get my man.’

‘Your man?’ Pearl asks in a low voice

‘Just sleep Pearl, you can’t understand because you got your man on a silver platter.’

‘No offence.’ She adds

‘Taken.’ I say

‘Whatever Leo.’

‘Okay so what are you going to do about Gabriel since he is taking forever to notice you?’

‘There is a party at the office this coming weekend.’

‘Nice, your bank always throws big parties.’ James says who looks like he is taking this bitter pill well.

‘I have asked Lona to be my plus one, she can sway one of the guys in the circle. I want us to be sister wives. You know how much I love her.’

‘What if Lona grabs the attention of Gabriel?’

‘Well she knows better than to do anything funny, I have him on my vision board.’

‘Vision what?’

‘Sasha has this white board where she has photos of Gabriel and herself.’ Pearl says

‘Photos they took together?’

‘No, she always downloads his photos from his socials and collages them with hers and prints them out.’

‘That’s crazy Sasha, it sounds like you are obsessed with this guy.’

‘I am not obsessed with him. I am in love with him and I will do everything in my power to make sure our stars align.

‘I think it’s time for us to sleep, I thought you were crazy but you are beyond that Sasha.’ I say standing up with Pearl still on my laps

‘And I don’t mean that in a good way.’ I add walking away

‘Go and sleep.’ Sasha says leaning back in her chair

‘Good night you two.’ Pearl says
