Chapter Twenty-One: Connection

SHE WAS TOO MUCH.

Max’s labored breathing matched Hyacinth’s as they both stared at each other. Her lips, now swollen from his kisses, trembled as her orgasm slowly subside.

He had women before. He was busy with work all the time but he’s got occasional flings here and there. He’s thoroughly experienced in the pleasures of the flesh yet here he is, dazedly pondering on what just happened.

Their intimacy just now reached the highest level of satisfaction. It felt like quenching not only the thirst of the human body but also the mind and soul. It was so great that Max couldn’t believe that he was capable of reaching something like that. He felt like he just touched something beyond the satisfaction of human need.

In simple words, that had been the greatest orgasm of his cock.

And just by looking at Hyacinth’s eyes, he perceived that she, too, experienced the same thing as he did.

He might be knowledgeable when it comes to sex but he’s utterly clueless about human emotions. He couldn’t just rule out that his emotions are included in the act just because he happened to be ignorant of the subject. He was so sure that Hyacinth and he connected, synchronized.

“That was...” Max couldn’t find the right word. He cursed and rubbed his forehead against Hyacinth’s. She chuckled and closed her eyes like he did, probably wondering about what happened.

“We’ve enjoyed it. Let’s leave it at that.”

Max huffed and chuckled at the notion. “Do we both agree that our marriage will be filled with more of that?”

A naughty grin formed on her lips. “Will our marriage be filled with ripped panties, too?”

Max couldn’t hold back the sudden burst of laughter from his chest. “Oh, Hyacinth. We can always buy more. Perhaps we could find a cloth strong enough to avoid my ripping abilities.”

They both giggled as Max gently carried her to his bedroom.

HYACINTH’s mind was floating in the air as Maine and Erin talked about the latest fashion. The last thing she heard from the conversation was the future of the fashion industry and how the internet influenced the trends like wildfire in the forest.

But Hyacinth didn’t care about that. Her mind is on one thing only and that is Maximillian. She could still feel the heat of his kisses on her skin. She could feel her body throbbing and aching at the memory of his sensual touch. Her lips and breasts are swollen from his kisses, her pussy sore from the vigorous pumping of his cock in her sheath. And how could she forget the lewd, arousing words he whispered against her ear?

Max left his intimate footprints on her being that Hyacinth can’t seem to focus. He offered to shower with her and she would’ve gladly accepted if only Maine didn’t call Max asking about her whereabouts. It turns out that Maine and Erin are patiently waiting in their hotel room and even ordered a charcuterie board from room service. Hyacinth almost forgot her promise to her daughter and her soon-to-be sister-in-law because of him.

And the motherfucker decided to join the girl’s night.

He is now wearing a tiara on his head while eating the cheese from the charcuterie board in the middle of their circle. He sat casually on the floor while looking at his laptop as if he didn’t drill the life out of her a few minutes ago.

Where did he even get the tiara?

“Mom, are you listening?”

Hyacinth looked at Erin whilst gathering her wits. “Yes, honey?”

“Mom, we’re talking about skirts. What do you prefer?”

Maximillian, being the asshole that he is, chuckled at Hyacinth’s blushing face.

“Your mom like wearing a sundress. It’s practical and easy to wear. Easy to remove and stuff, right?”

Oh, she will kill him. Her fists clenched as she tried to suppress her annoyance and embarrassment.

“I think I prefer jeans over skirts, Erin. I can wear them on any occasion and they last long. I’m still wearing the jeans I’ve been wearing since I was sixteen.”

The humor on Maximillian’s face suddenly vanished. He frowned as he met her gaze. “You’re not joking?”

She shrugged. “I set aside most of my money for the bills. There are also savings for healthcare—"

“But Moonround Cafe covers employees’ healthcare needs.”

“There’s no assurance that I will stay in Sutton forever. By the way, how do you know that Moonround is generous enough to cover hospital bills?”

“I own the cafe.”

“W-What?” Her mouth opened. “Oh my god, Moonround cafe alone earns millions of dollars in revenue from all over the world. How rich are you? And why did you only tell me now that you’re the owner?”

He fixed the tiara on his hair. “Irrelevant information. You don’t seem to care about my wealth and my businesses. You only care for Jean Baden and your job in Sutton. You didn’t even bother to look at me every time I visit the place.”

“So, that means...” No. This information changes everything.

Her fate has been linked with Maximillian ever since she arrived in Sutton City. He had been there all this time and she had been too occupied with her troubles to even notice that.

Come to think of it, Jean Baden-Rodriguez became friends with her the first time she worked in the cafe. Not to mention that she had been working for Max ever since day one in Sutton City.

They’ve already met. Hyacinth remembered a vague memory of when Moonround Cafe’s manager introduced the cafe’s staff to Maximillian Bismarck. Hyacinth was just too occupied with her dilemmas to even give a damn about him. If she remembered correctly, that day was when she first met Maximillian Bismarck. That was her first month working as a janitress in the cafe.

So, they’re bound to meet each other after all.

But for what? For Hyacinth to interfere with his and Maine’s death? For her to meet Erin along the way?

Are they connected even before she interfered with his thread?

Whatever the reason for all of this, Hyacinth is sure that she’ll be able to find it on this journey. The answers to her questions felt so near that she could almost taste them.

Maybe Erin’s ability will help her understand the mystery regarding their disappearance after two years...their fates. Hyacinth is confident enough about her capability to quickly grasp something and adapt to new information. For sure, she didn’t disappear for a decade only because she was incompetent.

Maybe her absence is caused by something deeper. Maybe she discovered something about Erin’s abilities. Maybe she’s trying to save Erin from something?

Hyacinth feared that there was more to all of this...that she was just a speck in the mystery that awaits them.

Maybe, that mystery could explain everything regarding her existence.
