Reo’s POV

That mother fucking jackass! That is where he was letting my mate sleep? Even if she wasn’t my mate, he treats humans that way? Why? And who is she? How did she end up here? He better answer all my questions and fast.

‘I’m gonna kill him!’ Red says. He’s growling now.

‘Not yet Buddy. I want him dead too though.’

We get to his office and I slam the door.

“What the fuck, Hunter?! Why do you have a human living in the basement? In a very bare and small room?”

“She’s an orphan. An ordinary human. No one important. She’s a maid here.”

“She’s important to me! And what makes you think you can treat someone like that? We’re here to protect humans, not harm them.”

“Hey now! I’ve never harmed her. She was left here as a baby. We don’t know by whom or why. Two of my wolves adopted her. They died in a rogue attack almost 11 years ago.”

“And how old was she?”

“Ten.”

“Who took her in?”

“My father did. I took over her care when he died and I became alpha the next year.”

“Did your dad put her there?”

“Yes.”

“And you kept her there?”

“Yes.”

Ok. I’m gonna kill him. He doesn’t even seem the least bit concerned about Jerica and what she went through. Just because he didn’t physically abuse her doesn’t mean he didn’t abuse her.

“I’m going to do what I need to do and be gone from here before this week is over and I will be taking my mate with me,” I say with so much menace he starts to shake. Good. He knows, alpha or not, he’s below me and I will crush him.

“You may have her.”

He’s trying to be tough but his voice quivers.

“You’re damn right I can.”

On that note I walk out and slam his door. I’m gonna sneak in there tonight and get my proof so I can take my mate home tomorrow. I wasn’t going to be so underhanded with getting what I need but things change. I get to my door and Caleb is standing watch.

“Alpha Reo. She looks underfed. And she had the smallest bag of clothes. And her shoes, they look like they’re two seconds from falling apart. She doesn’t seem to have any marks on her though.”

“That shows they don’t care about humans. I’m angry, Caleb. I don’t like people harming the innocent put it’s 100 times worse cause she is my mate. It’s taking all my strength not to tear this place down.”

“We’ll get them after we get her out Alpha. I’ll be right beside you. No one messes with my luna.”

“You’re a good wolf. Thank you for protecting her.”

“Anytime.”

“Go to your room now. I’ll mind link you my plan.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

He goes into his room and I go into mine. My beautiful mate has fallen asleep on the couch. She’s in holey jeans and a plain white t-shirt. And those shoes do look like a gust of wind could unravel them to nothing. And no socks, really? She does look malnourished too. My blood is about to boil over.

‘Kill!’ Red yells.

‘We’ll get them Red. Don’t worry about that.’

I get a pillow and blanket. I lay her back on the pillow and before I cover her I take off her shoes. She has blisters. Red is about to come out we’re so angry. I have to tell him to cool it. I cover her up and link Caleb about what I’m doing tonight, then I ask him to go a clothing store and get Jerica some new clothes and shoes. Making sure to add socks to the list. I also tell him to ask around about Hunter. Get info on how he protects the city. I sit in the recliner that’s across from the couch and call the alpha king.

“That alone is enough for me lock him up for good. If you get info from people in the city that’s just a bonus. I’ll send some guards there tomorrow along with one of my board members. He’ll take over the pack and change things. I’ll appoint a new alpha and beta from another pack to go there after things are situated. The New Moon Pack’s alpha has two brothers. I’m sure one would be happy to take over. Alpha blood and they’re good men. They’ll have a good beta to bring with them as well.”

“Good.”

“Try not to kill Hunter before my guards get there please.”

“No promises.”

I hang up with him and rest my eyes for a bit. Caleb links me that he’s back and at my door. He didn’t want to knock and wake Jerica. I let him in and he gives me the clothes. He also has written letters from some citizens about Hunter. He only helps the rich. He doesn’t even hire humans in his businesses in town. Selfish prick. Hoarding his protection and money.

“This is perfect. We have all we need to get that bastard.” Bonus, I don’t have to be underhanded and sneak into his office tonight.

Jerica’s POV

I wake up from the best sleep I’ve had since I was kid. I look over and see Alpha Reo sitting in the recliner reading some papers. He looks up and smiles at me.

“Hey, Gorgeous. How’d you sleep?” He asked.

“Um, good. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”

“You don’t have to be sorry. I’m sure you needed it. So, tell me about yourself.”

I sit up on the couch and look down at my hands

“Well, I was abandoned as a baby at the edge of pack land and”

“Jerica?”

I stop talking.

“Yes?”

“You’re my equal, my mate. Please look at me when you talk, and speak up. I want to hear what you have to say.”

I look him in the eye at that point.

“There you go. Let me see those beautiful eyes of yours.”

He smiles at me the most beautiful and genuine smile. He really sees me as his equal and as someone special. Wow.

“So, my parents found me and adopted me. Even though I’m human they didn’t treat me any different. They wanted to move packs but as you know there is a lot to that. When I was 10 they were killed in a rogue attack. I was taken out of school and moved here to be a maid. And that’s been my life for almost 11 years now.”

“I’m sorry, Baby. You should have never gone through that. I’m taking you home with me tomorrow.”

“I thought the king needed you here for a week.”

“I’ve talked with him. I’m really here to get proof that Hunter takes money in exchange for protection. Caleb has already gotten letters from humans in the city and after what he did to you I don’t need anymore proof. Some of the king’s guards will be here tomorrow morning to arrest Hunter and Frank. One of his board members will take over and fix this pack. You need to keep that to yourself though. We don’t need him running or something.”

“Seriously? That makes me so happy. If my parents were here they would be too. That’s all they ever wanted for this pack. Believe it or not, Hunter’s father was worse, especially after losing his mate.”

“I believe it. But you don’t have to worry about that anymore.”

“I um, I, have a um, a question.”

“You can ask me anything, Darlin.”

“Do you expect to mate me tonight?” A wolf mating with a human is very rare. I have no idea how this works. Wolves usually mate the day they meet their mates.

“No. I know as a human you don’t feel the pull like I do and will need time to get to know me. I would never ask you to do something you are not ready for or want.”

Oh thank goddess, you mated me to a good man.

“And tonight, I’ll sleep on the couch so you can have the bed,” he says. Wow. He is so thoughtful. The Diamond Heart Pack is really lucky.

“This room has a private bathroom. How about you go take a long hot bubble bath. When you’re done, there are some new clothes for you. By the time you’re ready it’ll be time for dinner.”

“Oh. Thank you so much.” I say as I stand. I can’t help it. I start to cry. Before I know it I’m in his arms. He’s just holding me, letting cry and soak his shirt. He doesn’t even care. He just rubs my back. I’m finally able to stop and I look up at him.

“Go take that bath, Baby. I’ll be here waiting for you.” Then he leans down and kisses my forehead. A soft gentle kiss. I go to the bathroom and see some new jeans, nice shirts, socks, some maxi dresses, new tennis shoes and a pair of sandals. I also have some new pjs. I’ve never felt so cared for. Not since my parents anyway. I also have new underwear, toothbrush, toothpaste and hair brush. There are also some head bands. I can’t believe he did all this for me. I soak in a bubble bath. It feels so good. I really needed this. After, I decide to wear the purple maxi dress and sandals. I also wear my hair down with a head band. I’m nervous to go out like this but I’m leaving here. These people don’t matter and I’m the mate to an alpha. I can walk out like this and eat what I want at the tables with everyone. No one can stop me or hurt me. Then why I’m I so nervous?
