Chapter 611

“Even though Mr. Whitfield spoils her rotten, she’s just a rich man’s pet. How could a master ever marry his pet?”

“The Thomas family and the Whitfield family are evenly matched, and Valeria is the general manager of the Thomas Group. She’s sharp as a pin, do you think she doesn’t know about Sharon? I bet Sharon’s in for a rough ride.”

“These rich guys, every single one of them has a wife at home and a lover on the side. Even if Jared dumps her, she’ll get a decent payoff that’ll set her up

for life.”

“Sharon isn’t a stunner and she doesn’t have a fancy background. How the heck did she catch Mr. Whitfield’s eye?”

T heard that Mr. Whitfield saw her in a bar and liked her eyes. They reminded him of his ex–wife.”

“Speaking of which, it’s a darn shame that Mr. Whitfield turned into such a playboy because of a broken heart.”

Agnes had been following the news these days too, and most of the reports were about Sharon.

Agnes suddenly remembered that she once called Jared because of her grandmother.

The call was answered by a girl, she said that Jared left his phone at her place.

Now, Agnes thought, that girl must’ve been Sharon.

Jared was really getting engaged.

Agnes couldn’t tell what she was feeling.

She wouldn’t admit that it actually hurt, but after all, she had no place in this.

It’s Jared’s life, none of her business.

All Agnes could think of now was to find a way to get Nocturne back.

The day Jared gets engaged would be a good opportunity.

Since he was getting engaged, he would be super busy that day.

And Nocturne needed to sleep during the day.

Jared couldn’t keep an eye on Nocturne all the time.

Agnes had been restless these days.

On top of that, she had been having an on–and–off cold, still running a low fever.

The meds were helping, but Agnes couldn’t be bothered with that.

She had been glued to Nocturne’s location every day.

Finally, the day Jared gets engaged arrived.

Coincidentally, it was two days before Christmas.

Even more coincidentally, Christmas was Nocturne’s birthday.

Nocturne was born prematurely on Christmas Eve four years ago.

Thinking about it, it had been almost a month since Agnes last saw Nocturne.

Unbeknownst to her, Nocturne had been with Jared all this time.

The venue of Jared’s engagement party was the Caesar International Hotel.

Apparently, he booked the entire hotel for the day.

Agnes had been monitoring Nocturne’s location all day.

Surprisingly, it was still between Maplewood Manor and the office.

Agnes was surprised and helpless.

Who knew he could still go to work on the day of his engagement.

Agnes‘ car was parked in the Tim Tower parking lot.

After waiting for a long time, around six o’clock, she saw Jared leaving the office.

At that time, Nocturne was already awake.

Agnes saw Jared walking out hand in hand with Nocturne.

There was a black Rolls–Royce outside, apparently waiting.

Jared got in the car.

Jared’s car left a good while later, then Agnes drove out of the parking lot.

The GPS showed Jared heading to the Caesar Hotel.

He was probably going to the engagement dinner.

Although Jared was the man of the hour, he looked just like a regular guest.

Agnes‘ car was parked outside the Caesar Hotel.

The entire hotel was lit up

There were attendants and security guards at the entrance

They block many journalists who came to take photos.

Agnes was well–prepared, she had Kearney copy an invitation to the engagement beforehand.

So, Agnes easily walked into the hotel.

Chapter 612

Once Agnes stepped foot into the hotel, she made a beeline for the elevator.

She had been prepping for today, the day she planned to take Nocturne away

She had Nate hack into the control system of Caesar International Hospital from afar.

And today, the hospital’s surveillance system was on the fritz.

The tech department of Caesar International Hospital was scrambling to troubleshoot.

But Agnes knew that Nate’s hacking chops wasn’t something you could just fix up easily.

Jared’s engagement party was set up in the banquet hall at the top of the building.

Agnes stopped at the top floor, but didn’t head to the banquet hall.

She took the fire escape straight to the rooftop.

Agnes had been to Caesar Hotel before, so she knew the lay of the land pretty well.

She had previously scoped out the location.

The rooftop was deserted.

Agnes walked to a suitable spot and pulled out a pair of binoculars.

From her spot, she could see everything happening in the banquet hall through the floor–to–ceiling windows.

The banquet hall wasn’t far from where she was, just a hallway about a hundred meters long.

Agnes took a look around with her binoculars, there was no sign of Jared.

But she did spot Valeria, dressed in a champagne–colored gown, which was simple yet elegant.

Normally, she always seemed the picture of professionalism.

Today, she looked stunning.

But her demeanor still showed her sharp and efficient character.

It was Jared’s engagement party, but Agnes couldn’t spot Jared at the party

Agnes was on edge, because according to Nocturne’s location, he was currently in the lounge next to the banquet hall.

This was the perfect chance for Agnes to whisk Nocturne away.

But the only thing Agnes was unsure of was whether Jared was with Nocturne

Only when Agnes was sure Jared was in the banquet hall could she go and take Nocturne.

Agnes was standing on the rooftop.

She was monitoring the banquet hall with her binoculars, while keeping an eye on Nocturne’s location.

Nocturne’s location in the lounge hadn’t changed at all.

After about half an hour of waiting. Jared finally showed up in the banquet hall

Decked out in a suit, he looked dashing.

As soon as he entered, he was swarmed by people. Everyone was congratulating him.

The party hadn’t officially started yet. Valeria walked up to Jared and took his arm.

Both of them were holding a glass of champagne.

Agnes saw them clink glasses and exchange a smile, whispering something to each other.

Jared seemed in high spirits, and Valeria looked like a perfect match for him.

People kept coming up to offer their congratulations.

Agnes was feeling a pang in her heart, she didn’t want to see these scenes.

Agnes made a beeline for the lounge, based on the location.

She went through the long hallway. The hallway was crowded, but nobody paid her much mind.

Agnes quietly pushed open the door to the lounge.

Lucky for her, there was no one else in the room.

Nocturne hadn’t drifted off to sleep yet, but he was obviously worn out.

Sitting on the sofa, he looked ready to nod off.

Agnes immediately walked over and called out softly, Noc.”

Nocturne lifted his head, and his eyes lit up as soon as he saw it was Agnes, “Mom.”

Chapter 613

Nocturne sprung up from the couch and ran towards Agnes, his arms wrapping tightly around her legs. Mom, you’re finally here to get me.”

Apart from the days when Nocturne had to stay with Reggie, he and Agnes had never been apart for so long.

Agnes squatted down and pulled Nocturne into a tight embrace. “I missed you so much. Let’s go, I’ll take you home right now.”

Agnes couldn’t afford to waste any time. They had to get out of there as soon as possible.

Nocturne didn’t argue, he followed Agnes out. But halfway down the hallway, he suddenly stopped. “Mom, I think I need to call the man who took care of

me.”

Agnes paused. “Can it wait?”

Nocturne shook his head. “I need to say goodbye to him. If I just disappear, he’ll worry. Plus, he’s getting engaged today. I don’t want him to be distracted looking for me. Mom, I’m about to go to sleep, I want to say goodbye before I do.”

Agnes understood Nocturne’s character. He had always been polite and principled. She didn’t want to interfere with his way of handling things. Plus, they had already left the lounge, and Jared was at his engagement party. There was no way he could come over.

Agnes‘ phone was special. When she called, it didn’t display a number, just a code, and it couldn’t be traced. She wasn’t worried about Jared tracking her down.

Agnes handed Nocturne her phone. “Okay, Nocturne, give him a call. Just a simple goodbye.”

Agnes dialed Jared’s private number and handed the phone to Nocturne. Before long, the call connected.

“Who is this?” Jared’s voice came through the phone.

“Sir, it’s Summer. I’m leaving. My mom came to get me. We have some things to deal with, and I’m sorry I can’t say goodbye in person.”

“Where are you? I’d like to meet your mother.”

“I’m sorry, sir, we’ve already left. If there’s a chance, we’ll see you next time.”

With a hint of helplessness in his voice, Jared said, “See you then.” And then the call ended.

Agnes finally breathed a sigh of relief.

As she and Nocturne exited through a secure passage and headed for the elevator, Jared, who had just hung up the phone, saw them walk by.

Jared had not been in the banquet hall. He had gone out to the stairwell for a smoke and happened to pick up Nocturne’s call. As he stepped out of the stairwell, he saw Agnes. He even heard her conversation with Nocturne. “Are you tired? Should I carry you?”

“No, mom, I’m not tired.”

The sound of a child’s voice, but the word “mom” exploded like a bomb in Jared’s mind.

The woman who was holding Nocturne’s hand and was being called ‘mom‘ by him was Agnes.

For the first time, Jared was left in a stunned silence. His mind was a chaotic mess, his ears filled with a buzzing noise, and his heart started to beat out

of control.

It was a feeling he couldn’t describe, like being in a dream but also in reality. Everything else seemed to fade away, the light and shadows all became dim. All that was left were those two people, Agnes, Summer, and his own immobile body.

Agnes didn’t notice Jared standing behind them. She led Nocturne into the elevator. But as she turned to close the elevator door, she caught a glimpse of Jared…

Chapter 614

Agnes thought she might be seeing things as the elevator doors slowly closed in front of her.

In the last split second, she thought she saw someone rushing towards her.

But the elevator doors were already closed.

Nocturne had pressed the ground floor button before Agnes.

The elevator quickly descended.

Agnes‘ heart also sank, as if it had plunged into the unfathomable depths of the sea.

Did she see it wrong?

It took only about ten seconds for the elevator to descend to the ground floor

But those ten seconds felt like an eternity to Agnes.

The elevator doors opened, and Agnes, holding Nocturne’s hand, stepped out.

Her pace quickened, and she finally picked up Nocturne and ran.

Agnes quickly reached the parking lot, put Nocturne in the passenger seat, and drove away quickly.

By then, Nocturne had started to doze off.

Agnes‘ hands on the steering wheel began to tremble.

Her mind was blank, she didn’t dare to think about anything, she just wanted to get away from this place as quickly as possible.

When Jared realized what was happening, he quickly followed.

But the elevator doors were already closed.

In a hurry, he ran down the stairs of the safety exit, floor by floor.

He practically sprinted out of the Caesar International Hospital.

He just happened to see a car without a license plate driving out of the parking lot.

Jared instinctively knew that it was Agnes‘ car.

Luckily, he had driven his own car today. Jared got into his car and immediately followed.

Jared kept accelerating, to the point where he felt like the car was about to take off.

He ignored everything, ran several red lights, all he wanted was to catch up with the car in front.

Agnes was also driving fast, she didn’t notice that there was a car following her from behind.

This was a busy street in the city center.

But she was still overtaking wildly, one car after another.

Her gaze was only on the road ahead, she didn’t pay any attention to what was happening behind her.

Agnes‘ mind was blank. She just kept going, and she hadn’t even thought about where she was going.

Suddenly, a car sped past her from the side, braked hard, and skidded in front of Agnes‘ car.

Luckily, Agnes reacted quickly and braked hard.

That car reversed and skidded a long distance in front of Agnes‘ car.

When Agnes‘ car stopped, that car also stopped.

The distance between the two cars was about three meters.

Their cars were stopped in the middle of the road.

Passersby thought there had been an accident and honked their horns.

But no one stopped, they only slowed down and drove past the two cars.

From above, it seemed like a unique scene had formed on the road.

The two cars stood still there, facing each other.

Other traffic continued to flow past them, like blood flowing through veins

At that moment, the two people in the cars were staring at each other through their car windows.

In that moment, Agnes felt as if time had stopped

However, her heart was pounding, and Agnes could clearly hear her own heartbeat.

Because of the distance, she couldn’t see Jared’s expression in the darkness.

But Agnes felt a heavy pressure.

Jared had gotten out of the car and was slowly walking towards Agnes.

Chapter 615

Jared was heading towards Agnes‘ car

Watching Jared approaching, the only thought running through Agnes‘ head was to run, she had to run.

Almost instinctively, Agnes stepped on the accelerator.

She had to get out of there.

But Jared on the other side was quickening his pace, running towards her. Almost the next second, his hands were on the hood of Agnes‘ car.

She didn’t manage to get away after all.

So close, it seemed like everything had turned full circle.

Jared lifted his head, coldly saying, “Agnes, get out!”

Actually, Agnes couldn’t hear what Jared was saying at all.

The surroundings were filled with the sound of car horns.

But Agnes just knew that these were the words Jared was saying.

Ever since she left the Caesar International Hospital, Agnes‘ heart had been racing, as if it could jump out of her chest at any moment.

But at this very moment, Agnes suddenly found her heart seemed to be gripped by someone, unable to beat.

Her blood seemed to have stopped flowing, and Agnes‘ body was extremely rigid.

They were in a standoff.

Whether it was three minutes or three hours, Agnes couldn’t feel the passage of time.

But in the end, Agnes still opened the car door and got out.

The cold wind blew on her face, instantly sobering her up

Agnes walked up to Jared, “Mr. Whitfield, shouldn’t you be at your engagement party? Is your fiancée going to be okay with you running out like this?”

Jared was staring at Agnes.

At this moment, she could still be so calm and collected, pretending as if nothing had happened?

“Who’s Summer’s father?” Jared asked coldly.

Agnes felt like she was a string, stretched to the point of breaking.

Agnes also spoke coldly, “No matter whose child it is, it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with you.”

“Agnes, he’s my son, right? Four years ago, you didn’t abort the baby. Summer is my child, right?”

Jared was eager to get confirmation from Agnes.

On the drive over here, Jared had a lot on his mind.

How could he be so stupid, the child had been by his side for so long, yet he never realized it, never even suspected it.

But clearly, people in the company were spreading rumors that Summer was his illegitimate child, saying that Summer looked a lot like him. Even Leo had mentioned it more than once.

But he never thought about it in that direction.

Maybe he was just refusing to think about that lost child.

That was the deepest scar in his heart, every time it was opened, it would hurt him, and it took a long time to heal.

Since Agnes appeared, Jared had been feeling all messed up.

He couldn’t think clearly and analyze things.

Agnes‘ determination made him never doubt her words, that she didn’t have the baby back then.

However, how could there be such a coincidence in this world. When he was in Manhattan, Jared felt something was off when he met Summer.

Every time he looked at Summer, his heart would soften, sometimes he even felt like crying.

When he get the call from Summer, saying he had left, Jared actually felt a sense of emptiness…

Chapter 616

Jared couldn’t wrap his head around why he was so hooked on Summer.

Deep down, he was torn up about the impending goodbye.

Because there was some kind of indescribable bond between them.

Agnes knew she couldn’t keep the secret anymore.

She had been bending over backwards to keep Jared in the dark about Nocturne.

But she didn’t see it coming when Jared found out like this.

Agnes stopped beating around the bush and said, “Yes, I had a child. But Jared, to call yourself the child’s father is a bit of a stretch. You’re only the biological father, you just supplied a sperm, what else have you got to do with this child? I don’t buy the idea that just supplying a sperm makes you a father.”

Agnes dropped these words coldly.

But Jared couldn’t take it, he yelled at Agnes, “Agnes, you’ve done all this! You made me just a biological father, because you tore me away from Summer, and you made me miss his birth and growth, you caused all of this. How can you blame me for being just a biological father? Agnes, don’t you see how ridiculous you sound?”

Jared was at boiling point.

Deception, betrayal, shock, all kinds of emotions flooded him like a tsunami.

Looking at Agnes poker face, he wanted to rip her to shreds.

Agnes watched Jared’s meltdown, her heart was also racing, but she had to keep her cool.

Even if Jared knew, it wouldn’t change a thing. The worst–case scenario would be a custody battle.

Besides, Járed was already engaged, he had a new family, maybe soon he would have his own child.

His current rage was just because of Agnes‘ deception.

Agnes tried to have a rational chat with Jared, “Jared, we’re divorced. I could have chosen not to have Summer, but I didn’t have the heart to. I also don’t want him to be a link between us in the future. Now, we’ve both moved on, you don’t want to go back to those days filled with fights and resentment, do you? You don’t have feelings for Summer, just like before, can we pretend nothing happened?”

Jared laughed, but it was a bitter one, “Agnes, Summer is right in front of me, but you want me to act like I don’t know him, pretend nothing happened. You are so cruel!”

“I’ve never acknowledged him as your son! We’re divorced!”

“You’re the one who wanted a divorce, not me!”

“So what? The fact is we’re divorced, we’re now two strangers with no connection. Summer is my son, he’s been living with me since he was a baby, he has nothing to do with you!”

Jared yelled back furiously, “But my blood is running in his veins. I won’t let Summer wander abroad. I missed his growing up, but from now on, he has to be with me every single day!”

Agnes started to feel real fear, “Jared, what the hell are you trying to do? Don’t even think about taking him away from me!”

Chapter 617

Agnes was filled with an unnameable fear, it’s like she had a gut feeling.

Sure enough, Jared turned around and picked up Nocturne from the passenger seat.

Agnes was a bit confused, not understanding what Jared was up to.

But Jared was already holding Nocturne, heading towards his car.

Agnes rushed to catch up, stepping in front of Jared, “Jared, what the hell are you doing, where do you think you’re taking him? You can’t just take my son away!”

Jared walked to the side of the car, then stopped, his voice icy cold, ‘Agnes, maybe it’s time you feel what I felt. Starting from today, you’ll know what it’s like to lose someone you care about.”

Without another word, Jared got into the car with Nocturne, closed the door, and drove off.

Everything happened so fast that Agnes couldn’t even stop him.

All Agnes knew was that she had truly pissed Jared off.

Agnes stood there for a few seconds.

Then she quickly turned around, got into her own car, started the engine, and chased after him.

Both cars merged into the city traffic.

Agnes went from panic to anger, then finally calmed down.

There was only one thing in her mind, she absolutely cannot let Jared take Nocturne away.

No matter the cost.

She could lose anything in this world, but not Nocturne.

Jared’s car was always ahead, with Agnes sticking to his tail.

She was clueless about the direction and the destination.

Eventually, the car stopped at Maplewood Manor.

Jared got out of the car with the child and went straight into the villa.

Agnes followed him in.

Jared carried Nocturne upstairs, put him in the bedroom, and locked the door.

Agnes was banging on the door from outside, “Jared, you bastard, open the door! You’re nothing but a thief, what the hell are you trying to do?”

Despite the deafening banging on the door, Jared found the room suddenly serene.

He looked at Summer in his arms, a nameless emotion swelling in his heart.

This was his child, his own flesh and blood!

Even though he had just confirmed this fact from Agnes, Jared was filled with heartache and anger.

But beneath the complex and intense emotions, he couldn’t help but feel a touch of exultation.

It was like a volcanic eruption, bubbling up, scorching hot, these emotions almost made him lose control of himself.

Tears welled up in Jared’s eyes…

Jared put Nocturne on the bed.

Agnes was still banging on the door outside, almost breaking it down.

Jared put down Nocturne, collected himself, then opened the door.

Agnes was still banging on the door from outside.

The door suddenly opened and she lost balance, falling straight into Jared’s arms.

Agnes stepped back, “Jared, give Summer back to me. You have no right to take him away. If you want to fight for custody, get a lawyer. We can settle this in court. But first, give him back to me!”

Jared seemed to have returned to his usual icy demeanor, his eyes as cold as ice.

Jared said, “Give him back to you, and then you just disappear with him? Agnes, don’t think I don’t know what you’re planning!”

Agnes didn’t expect Jared to see through her plans so quickly.

Chapter 618

Agnes was planning to play the long game.

First, she’d snatch Nocturne from Jared.

Then, she’d retreat back to Manhattan and live incognito.

She was certain Jared wouldn’t be able to find her.

And if it came down to a court battle, Agnes wasn’t scared.

She and Jared had divorced before Nocturne was even born, and Nocturne had grown up with her. There was no way the judge would award custody to Jared.

What Agnes was worried about was Jared playing dirty, and the law not being able to stop him.

Agnes said, Jared, I think we need to calm down and talk this out.”

“I’m calm, Agnes. Spit it out.”

Agnes looked at Jared, his mood as icy as a snowman.

Agnes collected her thoughts, saying, “Nocturne can’t be without me. You should know this after having him with you for so long. He has congenital neurasthenia. I’ve been treating him for years. No one knows his condition better than me, and no one can take care of him better than me. If you really care about Nocturne, you can’t take him away from me, Jared.”

Agnes was telling the truth.

She had become a pro at taking care of the sick after all these years.

Nocturne couldn’t live without her care.

More importantly, she couldn’t live without Nocturne.

Nocturne was her rock.

Jared, however, stayed silent.

He was deep in thought, seemingly considering what Agnes was saying.

Agnes continued, “Jared, you’re getting engaged today. This is not where you should be. Getting engaged means you’re starting a new family. Have you thought about how Valeria would feel if you insisted on keeping Nocturne around? Have you thought about what the media would say about Nocturne showing up out of the blue? They’ll claim he’s your love child. Nocturne will be the talk of the town, and Valeria might not accept him. It wouldn’t be fair to anyone.”

Jared coldly responded, “Fair? I’ve been fair to everyone. Has anyone been fair to me? Your words are pointless, Agnes. I won’t let Nocturne go with you.

Agnes didn’t expect her words, even bringing up his fiancée, to have no effect.

Seeing Jared’s determination, Agnes struggled to keep her cool.

“Jared, what do you want? Nocturne is my son, I won’t leave him. If you want to take Nocturne from me, you’ll have to kill me.”

Agnes was equally resolute.

Jared was determined, but she couldn’t give up.

Even if it meant a hard–fought custody battle was on the horizon.

Agnes lifted her head, continued, “Jared, I’m not the same Agnes you knew four years ago. You should know that I’ve managed to stay off the radar for four years, even your sprawling data network couldn’t find me. I’m not afraid of a custody battle, and who’s to say I’d lose?”

Jared spoke up, “I won’t drag you to court, I don’t want Summer to get hurt.”

Agnes was taken aback, “Then what do you plan on doing?”

Jared paused for a few seconds, locking eyes with Agnes, and calmly and firmly said, “Marry me again!”

Chapter 619

When Jared brought up the idea of remarrying, Agnes was totally gobsmacked.

She even thought she was hearing things.

But Jared’s face was dead serious, no sign of joking around.

While Agnes was still trying to wrap her head around this, Jared’s phone started to ring.

Jared retrieved his phone from his pocket, took a quick glance at it, and then turned to answer the call by the window.

As Jared unlocked his phone, Agnes caught sight of the name on the screen: Valeria.

Agnes‘ mood instantly took a nosedive.

Jared just exchanged a few words before hanging up and he turned back around.

He told Agnes, “Think about what I proposed”

Agnes laughed and lifted her head to ask, “Remarry? What about Valeria? Weren’t you just engaged to her today?”

I’ll call off the engagement. I’ll handle the rest.”

Agnes laughed sarcastically, “So engagements can be called off just like that, what about feelings, can they also change at whim?”

Agnes stared into Jared’s eyes, a slight smile playing on her lips, “Jared, I heard a lot about you when I went back home. I didn’t believe it at first, but now I see you’ve really changed.”

Jared’s face was impassive, he retorted, “Agnes, I am who I am because of you. If we remarry, you can stay with Summer. This is your only choice. Think it

over.”

“I don’t need to think it over, Jared. I won’t remarry you, nor will I maintain a broken marriage for the sake of Nocturne.”

Jared took a step forward and grabbed Agnes‘ chin, “Do you think you’re so noble? Haven’t you stopped caring about the grudges between the Pritchards and the Whitfields? Otherwise, why would you be with Ryder? Agnes, I’m not arguing with you, I’m giving you a chance.”

Agnes shook off Jared’s hand, “I don’t need chances from you, Jared. Don’t delude yourself.”

The two found themselves in a silent standoff, neither willing to back down.

Jared’s phone rang again, but this time, Jared didn’t answer it.

Not long after, Leo showed up at the door.

Seeing the situation in the room, Leo hesitated slightly.

Jared turned his head, looking displeased, “What are you here for?”

Leo glanced at Agnes, as if he wanted to say something but stopped himself.

Finally, he walked over to Jared and told him something.

Jared’s face turned serious in an instant.

Jared told Leo, “Keep an eye on her. If Agnes or my son go missing before I get back, prepare to work in Africa.”

After saying his piece, Jared left.

་ ༢ ་ ༩

Leo stood there, looking stunned.

Although it was a brief statement, it contained a lot of information.

Mr. Whitfield’s son? When did Mr. Whitfield have a son

Unconsciously, Leo looked towards the bedroom.

Summer was sleeping soundly on the bed.

Could it be…

Leo suddenly got it. Summer was the CEO’s son.

Then Summer’s motherLeo thought the world had gone crazy.

No wonder he found Summer familiar the first time they met. That aloof demeanor and extraordinary character were so like Mr. Whitfield!

Chapter 620

Actually, Summer and Mr. Whitfield do look somewhat alike.

Especially those eyes of theirs that seem indifferent but yet see through everything.

Lately, there’s been a rumor around the office that Mr. Whitfield had an illegitimate kid, and he brought him to the company every single day.

However, everyone’s whispering that Summer was Mr. Whitfield and Sharon’s child.

But, now thinking of it, Sharon’s eyes do have a striking resemblance to Agnes.

That would explain so many things over the past few years….

Even Leo was getting a headache, these relationships are just too messy.

Leo looked at Agnes who seemed to be deep in thought on the couch and cautiously greeted her, “Agnes, it’s been so long”

Agnes lifted her head, gave Leo a small smile, “Leo, long time no see.”

Leo took a rare moment to look over Agnes.

She had really changed a lot from her previous image.

Even her aura seemed different, even though she only said one sentence, Leo could tell that Agnes had become much stronger.

Leo chuckled, “Who would’ve thought, Summer is Mr. Whitfield and your son. I thought he looked familiar when we were in Manhattan. Now that I think about it, only a genius like Mr. Whitfield could produce such a smart kid.”

Agnes gave a forced smile.

Leo got it, the relationship between Mr. Whitfield and Agnes probably wasn’t too good.

Agnes stood up and headed for the bedroom.

Nocturne was sleeping, so this was probably the best opportunity.

Agnes entered the room and nonchalantly picked up Nocturne.

She turned around ready to leave.

Leo blocked the door, looking troubled. “Agnes, we were friends before, could you really bear to see me transferred to Africa?”

“Sorry, but I have to leave.” Agnes felt guilty, but she didn’t back down.

Plus, Leo was Jared’s most trusted subordinate. Agnes didn’t believe that Jared would really transfer him to Africa because of this. He was just trying to scare her.

Leo still blocked Agnes‘ path. “The villa is surrounded by journalists right now. Mr. Whitfield’s sudden disappearance from his engagement party today has resulted in both the company and here being besieged by journalists. If you leave now, you’ll definitely be photographed and that’s when the trouble

starts.”

Leo knew that Agnes was a somewhat famous actress four years ago. She definitely wouldn’t want to be harassed by journalists, let alone get involved

in such a scandal.

As expected, Agnes frowned, seemingly wavering.

She didn’t want to blow this up.

If they got exposed, the Whitfield family would also know about Nocturne’s existence.

That would just cause more trouble.

Agnes turned back to the room and put Nocturne back on the bed.

Then she suddenly turned around again, “Didn’t Jared just go to the engagement venue?”

If Jared went to the engagement venue, why are the journalists still camping here?

Leo sighed, “Mr. Whitfield didn’t go to the engagement venue.”

“Then where did he go?” Agnes was surprised.

What could be more important than his own engagement
