Chapter 601

He was there to help lug Mr. Whitfield’s luggage, because today they were heading back to Willowbrook Town.

When he saw Jared Whitfield carrying Summer, Leo was totally gobsmacked.

“Mr. Whitfield, isn’t that the kid from Manhattan?”

“That’s him.” Jared’s voice was as steady as a rock.

“Mr. Whitfield, no matter how much you like him, you can’t just snatch him from Manhattan. That’s against the law, sir.”

Jared shot Leo a frosty glance,

Laughing, Leo said, “Mr. Whitfield, I’m just kidding.”

And Leo was indeed just messing around.

But at the same time, he was super curious.

How did this kid end up back with Mr. Whitfield?

Jared told Leo, “Go lug the luggage.”

Then he walked off, carrying Summer.

Before hopping in the car, Leo asked, “Mr. Whitfield, are you taking him back with you?”

Jared replied, “I can’t just leave him here.”

Leo was thinking, even if you found this kid again, there are tons of other ways, like reaching out to his family through the media, or handing him over to the cops.

Why do you absolutely have to take the kid with you?

But Leo didn’t pester him with more questions.

Thank god Mr. Whitfield has his private jet, and Summer slept like a log on the plane.

By the time they landed in Willowbrook Town, it was already noon.

Leo asked, “Mr. Whitfield, what about Summer? Are you taking him to the office?”

Knowing Jared’s habits, he’d definitely head to the office first.

Jared said, “We are not going to the office, Maplewood Manor.”

Leo was taken aback, because it had been years since Jared last went to Maplewood Manor.

Mr. Whitfield practically lived in the office in recent years.

Sometimes, he’d even camp out there for months on end.

Even though Maplewood Manor was very close to the office, but it was where Jared and Agnes Pritchard used to live.

Maybe Mr. Whitfield was scared that going there would bring back old memories.

When the driver arrived, Jared told Leo, “Go buy some clothes for the kid, and some fresh food from the supermarket, then bring it all here.”

For the first time, Jared didn’t head straight to the office when he came back from a trip, but went home instead.

First stop, Maplewood Manor.

Even though it had been a while, he still had it cleaned regularly, the house was spotless.

After getting Summer settled, Jared headed to his study to start a video conference.

In no time, Leo was back

He’d bought a few sets of clothes and a ton of fresh food, pretty much filling up the fridge.

Leo was absolutely knackered after sorting all that out.

And with loads of work still to do at the office, he was pulling double duty as a babysitter.

After arranging the fridge, Leo told Jared, “Mr. Whitfield, if there’s nothing else, I’m going to head back to the office.”

“Hold on,” Jared stopped him. “You can take the rest of the day off.”

At first, Leo thought he’d misheard..

When it finally hit him, he was almost moved to tears.

He hadn’t had a day off in ages.

Sure, he was on a fat salary, and Mr. Whitfield treated him really well, giving him a house, a car, and company shares.

But he was on call 24/7.

Especially over the past four years, Jared had been working nonstop.

As his secretary, Leo had to work his tail off too.

Over the years, all of Jared’s girlfriends eventually broke up with him, and it was all because of Mr. Whitfield.

Was Mr. Whitfield finally deciding to give him a day off?

Just as Leo was about to thank him, planning to go home and rest, Jared suddenly said, “Stay here this afternoon. We’re making pizza”

Chapter 602

Making pizza?

Leo doubted if he had heard it wrong.

Jared had already started to delegate tasks, Go wash and chop up the freshly bought food”

Leo sighed inwardly.

He knew deep down that Mr. Whitfield wouldn’t easily give him a holiday.

But Leo was very curious.

Why Mr. Whitfield suddenly took up cooking, and making something as complicated as pizza.

As Leo went to get the ingredients from the fridge, he asked, “Mr. Whitfield, I thought you didn’t like pizza?”

Jared actually wasn’t a big fan of pizza.

Leo had been with him for many years and knew his food preferences like the back of his hand.

Jared casually replied, It’s for Summer to eat, pizza is just right, balanced diet.”

Leo was even more surprised, it was for Summer.

Mr. Whitfield, do you already consider Summer as your own child?

You know there’s a mountain of company business waiting for you, and all the department managers are waiting for you to attend a meeting.

And yet you’re leisurely cooking pizza for Summer at home?

Of course, these thoughts, Leo could only keep to himself.

On the surface, he still had to compliment, Mr. Whitfield is indeed responsible, and will surely be a good husband and father in the future.

Making pizza was quite complicated.

Jared and Leo spent the whole afternoon and finally got it done.

The amount was enough for Summer to eat for half a month.

Leo asked, “Mr. Whitfield, didn’t you say that Summer’s parents will definitely come to pick him up in the next few days? How is he going to finish all this?” Jared slightly frowned, “Get a Mamie box ready, he can take what he can’t finish.”

Leo was speechless.

Mr. Whitfield, Summer lives in Manhattan, is he supposed to carry a fridge back?

He doesn’t need your food.

But no matter what Jared said, Leo had to do as he instructed.

By evening, Summer woke up.

Jared had made a lot of pizza.

In the evening, Jared also invited Leo to eat with them.

The pizza was mainly made by Mr. Whitfield, Leo just helped.

Leo didn’t expect the pizza that Mr. Whitfield made to be so delicious.

Leo ate a lot and praised, “Mr. Whitfield, your cooking skills are amazing, no wonder Ms. Pritchard always used to say that you should have been a chef, but ended up being a CEO by mistake.”

After saying this, Leo had a bad feeling.

For all these years, he had always been very careful in front of Jared.

The name of Ms. Pritchard was something that couldn’t be mentioned casually.

Perhaps because Jared treated him like a friend today, he accidentally overstepped.

Sure enough, Jared’s face had turned cold.

Leo was about to apologize.

Suddenly, Summer next to him said, “Sir, I want more, your pizza is the best I’ve ever had.”

Summer’s praise instantly lightened Jared’s mood.

He even showed a slight smile and said, “I’ll cut it for you, eat more if you like it

For the first time, Leo was so grateful to Summer, it was like Summer saved his life.

Leo immediately stood up and said, “Mr. Whitfield, let me do the cutting.”

After dinner, Leo left, and Summer went to the study to read.

Meanwhile, Agnes‘ car was parked under a plane tree outside Maplewood Manor.

She tracked here from the Capital according to Nocturne’s location…

Agnes had been watching for a while now, and she saw Leo leaving.

Nocturne was in there, but Agnes was not quite sure how to get in

The light in the study had been on the whole time.

Suddenly, Agnes remembered a habit of Jared’s.

Chapter 603

If Jared doesn’t have to work late, he’ll usually take a bath at nine in the evening.

He’s a clean freak, his daily baths taking at least half an hour.

Agnes thought this half hour could be her only shot.

Luckily, she knew Jared was a stickler for routine and very punctual.

But Agnes was still a bit worried. After all, it had been four years. Has Jared’s lifestyle changed

And more importantly, she was unsure if she could get into Maplewood Manor.

She had been watching the bathroom light in the bedroom.

Sure enough, around nine, the bathroom light turned on.

Agnes breathed a sigh of relief.

Jared’s lifestyle hasn’t changed.

In this half hour, she had to quietly take Nocturne away.

It’s the only plan she could come up with to avoid running into Jared.

Thankfully, Agnes lived here for a long time and knew where the blind spots of the CCTV cameras were.

Just to be cautious, she was dressed in black, with a hat and mask.

There was no time for second guessing, she got out of her car.

The door to Maplewood Manor was code–locked.

Now it’s all down to luck.

Agnes typed in the code from four years ago and, to her surprise, the door actually opened.

It seems Jared didn’t change the code after all.

Agnes opened the door.

Next, she needed to create the illusion that Nocturne left on his own.

She checked the time. Nocturne should be awake by now.

She just needed to find Nocturne, quietly take him away.

Then have Nocturne call Jared. That would be a perfect solution.

But the condition was that she absolutely cannot run into Jared, otherwise, her plan would fail.

Agnes knew her move was risky, but she had no other choice.

As long as Nocturne was with Jared, she was anxious and afraid Jared might suspect something.

Agnes went inside the mansion.

Everything in Maplewood Manor was exactly the same as it was four years ago.

Every detail was etched into her memory.

Coming back here, Agnes felt a bit dazed and a pang of heartache.

But right now, she didn’t have time to dwell on it. Time was running out.

Agnes hurried up the stairs.

She thought Nocturne was probably in one of the other bedrooms.

Knowing Jared’s preference, he wouldn’t let anyone else sleep in his bed.

So Agnes decided to check the other bedrooms first.

As she opened the door, she found that the lights inside are all off.

Agnes checked anyway, but Nocturne wasn’t there

Agnes quickly pivoted and saw the lights in the study and Jared’s bedroom were on.

After a moment’s thought, Agnes decided to head to Jared’s bedroom.

She figured the odds of Nocturne being there were higher.

The door to the bedroom was also open.

She tiptoed in.

inside, she felt a bit disoriented. The layout of the room hasn’t changed in four years.

What surprised Agnes was a painting on the wall.

It was a portrait of her and Jared from their trip to Italy, done by a street artist

Agnes loved it and decided to hang it on the wall.

But she didn’t expect it to still be here after all these years.

Isn’t Jared about to get married? With their portrait still hanging in the bedroom, would his future wife be alright with that?

Chapter 604

The sound of water in the bathroom was still going.

Seeing the blurred silhouette and steaming water behind the frosted glass, Agnes suddenly felt sadness.

Nothing here had changed.

From the moment she stepped into Maplewood Manor, it was like she had been transported back to four years ago.

Past memories played like a movie in her mind, scene by scene.

Agnes tried to pull herself out of the past emotions.

If Nocturne wasn’t in the bedroom, where could he be

She had to find Nocturne immediately, so Agnes turned to leave.

But just then, she heard the sound of the glass door sliding open.

Agnes‘ heart sank, her body seemed frozen.

She knew she should run right away, maybe she could escape.

But her mind went blank, unable to react to anything.

The sound behind her suddenly disappeared.

Even though her back was to Jared, she could imagine his face.

He must think she was an intruder.

Agnes finally snapped out of it. She decided to run immediately.

Her car was outside, a new one with no license plate. Agnes wasn’t worried about Jared finding her.

She quickly made the decision and started to act.

She put on her hat and started to run.

“Agnes!” Jared’s roar came from behind.

Agnes‘ heart rate sped up, but she didn’t look back, just ran faster.

However, she heard footsteps behind her.

Finally, she was caught by Jared at the bedroom door. Jared pulled her hard.

Agnes was spun around by his pull.

She lost balance, tried to grab something, but ended up grabbing Jared’s towel.

Agnes hadn’t expected things to turn out this way.

Jared’s face was grim, He didn’t say anything, just stared at Agnes.

Agnes didn’t intend to react at first.

But facing naked Jared, she was just too embarrassed.

In the end, she decided to compromise first.

She slowly squatted down, picked up the towel on the floor, and tied it around Jared’s waist.

All the while, she kept her head turned away, eyes closed.

Jared just stared at her.

Agnes let go of the towel after tying it, but still kept her head turned, slightly opening her eyes.

She found Jared’s gaze icy cold

Agnes realized she could no longer avoid him.

So she turned her head and met Jared’s eyes, saying, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.

Jared didn’t respond, his gaze still fixed on her face.

All Agnes felt was coldness and pressure, Jared’s gaze was like silently judging her.

“Actually, as a man, you haven’t lost anything. Besides, I’ve long lost interest in your body, so you really don’t need to take it too personally.”

Chapter 605

Agnes tried to lighten the awkward mood with a joking tone, but Jared didn’t seem to be buying it.

His face looked even worse after Agnes finished speaking.

Yet, he remained silent, he just stared at Agnes with a cold gaze, making her feel uneasy.

Agnes had no idea what to say. She could only slowly back away.

She hadn’t gotten far when Jared grabbed her arm again, “Agnes, what the hell are you up to?”

The coldness in Jared’s voice was still there, Agnes could hear the hidden anger in his voice.

Agnes already had an explanation prepared, “Actually, I came back to get my ID”

She had thought out the worst–case scenario in the car.

If Jared found her before she found Nocturne, she’d have to find an excuse and get away as soon as possible.

She had thought of this excuse a long time ago.

Four years ago, when Beatrice hit her with her car, it was Reggie Albert who saved her life and took her away directly.

She then flew directly to Manhattan on a private jet. She didn’t take a single thing from here, including her ID.

It was still in the drawer by the bed at Maplewood Manor.

For all these years, Agnes had been living in Manhattan under another identity

Even she found this excuse a bit far–fetched, but it was her only option now

Jared’s face darkened even more. He asked coldly, “What do you need the ID for?”

“I didn’t need it while I was in Manhattan, but now that I’m back, it’s inconvenient without it.” Agnes answered.

She had to make herself appear confident, that was the only way she could dispel Jared’s doubts.

But Jared only smirked sarcastically, “Do you even remember your name is Agnes?”

Agnes understood what Jared meant, especially the anger and disdain in his eyes.

Agnes felt she couldn’t stay here for long.

The longer she stayed, the more likely she was to be exposed.

And if Nocturne showed up now, she’d be done for

“Mr. Whitfield, I deeply regret the inconvenience I’ve caused, but since I promised never to show up in front of you again, I’ve had to make this choice. I’ll leave immediately”

Agnes avoided Jared, pretending to look for her ID in the drawer.

She was extremely nervous, she felt Jared’s gaze on her back the whole time.

She wasn’t sure if Jared would become suspicious

She didn’t expect everything in the drawer to be exactly the same as four years ago.

Even the hair tie she left casually in the drawer was still there.

There was a card holder, and her ID and old bank cards were in it.

She didn’t need those anymore.

Agnes took out her ID from the card holder, then she stood up.

When she turned around, Jared was already standing behind her.

Jared looked very displeased.

Agnes was about to leave, but Jared blocked her way again, “You’re in such a hurry for your ID, are you planning to get married?”

Agnes was taken aback.

She didn’t understand what Jared meant for a moment.

But she figured it out two seconds later.

Yes, an ID does serve an important purpose. It is required when registering a marriage.

Agnes hadn’t thought of that, but Jared had.

Chapter 606

“Mr. Whitfield, this is none of your business. I got what I needed, so I’m outta here.”

Agnes reckoned this was the best timing for her to leave.

Even though she was in disappointment.

If she missed the chance to see Nocturne this time, who knows when would be the next time

But Agnes had no other choice.

Agnes tried to slip past Jared to make a French exit, but just after two steps, Jared grabbed her arm.

Jared has always been like this. His grip was so tight, it felt like he was crushing her bones.

Agnes was mad, “Jared, have you forgotten that I know Taekwondo? Let go before I hurt you.”

Jared didn’t even bat an eyelid at Agnes‘ threat.

Jared said, “You’re in such a hurry to get married? Getting Ryder to come home once in these years was hard, but now that you’re back, he’s back. Did you two plan this all along?”

Agnes didn’t understand what Jared was blabbering about.

But she knew Jared, if she didn’t clear things up, there’s no way she could leave.

Jared was always unreasonable. He was getting hitched, but he didn’t want her to.

Or maybe what got Jared’s goat was that she might get married before him.

Men could be so selfish sometimes.

Even after they broke up, they still wanted the woman to wait for them.

So even though he was about to get hitched, he kept sticking his nose into her business.

Agnes decided not to piss him off, she needed to scram ASAP.

-Agnes said, “I don’t have any plans to marry anyone for now. Can you let me go now?”

Agnes‘ voice was full of resignation and compromise.

But to Jared, it seemed like she was just lying.

She clearly wanted to get rid of him ASAP, she didn’t even want to argue with him.

There was no room for him in Agnes‘ heart anymore.

The more Jared thought about it, the more angry he got.

He felt like a volcano on the verge of eruption.

Every time he saw Agnes, there was this bottled–up anger.

Agnes tried to wriggle out, but Jared held on tight, refusing to let go.

Agnes was really steamed. How could Jared be such a jerk?

Just as Agnes was about to fight back, a clear voice came from the direction of the study, “Sir.”

Agnes recognized it instantly, it was Nocturne.

Agnes felt despair, oh God, don’t be so cruel!

If she showed up in front of Nocturne now, Jared would find everything out.

Agnes made a snap decision, shoved Jared into the room, and quickly shut the door.

Agnes looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

འ ཛ = འ ཛ ཆ ཕ ར ཎ ༩

But Agnes‘ reaction was so swift, it seemed more like an instinct to Jared.

Agnes was on pins and needles, her fingers were trembling out of fear.

Jared’s brows furrowed slightly. He started to wonder, what the heck was wrong with Agnes? It was just a kid’s voice, was she really that scared?

There was a knock on the door, a faint, young voice came from outside, “Sir, are you in there?”

Agnes felt like she couldn’t hide her fear any longer.

Her heart was pounding, as if it would burst out of her chest any second

Chapter 607

Jared walked to the door, ready to swing it open.

His hand had already grazed the doorknob.

Agnes‘ thoughts came to a screeching halt, she had probably never been this nervous. It felt like she was standing on the edge of a cliff, with one foot already over the line.

The next second, she would plunge into the abyss, breaking every bone in her body.

A battle was raging deep within Agnes‘ consciousness.

Only one thought kept hammering in her mind stop Jared from opening the door.

He can’t open the door!

The door was already ajar.

The next moment, Agnes rushed forward, wrapped her arms around Jared, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed him.

Jared was visibly taken aback, his body going rigid.

His hand stopped in its tracks.

Agnes leaned against the door, slamming it shut.

A sigh of relief escaped her lips as the door closed.

All her attention had been on what lay beyond the door.

She was praying that Nocturne wouldn’t catch a glimpse of her.

But now, the atmosphere had done a complete change.

Jared looked at her, a surprised look in his eyes.

Agnes lips were still pressed against Jared’s.

Their bodies were almost pressed together, their breaths mingling.

Jared’s fresh scent, mixed with the familiar smell of his regular shower gel.

The familiar aroma left Agnes a little disoriented.

A fire was burning in Jared’s usually cold eyes, growing hotter by the second.

Agnes couldn’t tell if it was anger or desire.

Agnes froze, letting go of Jared as she leaned back.

But her back was against the door, she had nowhere to run.

Their bodies were still almost pressed together.

Agnes locked eyes with Jared.

His gaze was growing darker by the second.

It seemed like in trying to avoid one problem, she had created an even bigger one.

But given the circumstances, that was the only thing she could do to distract Jared.

Only then could she make him forget about Nocturne outside the door.

But what now?

‘Agnes, do you have any idea what you just did?” Jared’s voice was cold and hoarse.

Agnes knew her actions must’ve seemed crazy to Jared.

Thinking about it, she felt kind of silly.

Jared was so smart, even though he was taken aback at the time.

He could easily figure out what was going on when he thought about it later.

Agnes figured she couldn’t make her intentions too obvious.

Jared could easily guess that her actions were a desperate attempt to cover up some ulterior motive.

She couldn’t let Jared think that.

She had to at least confuse him, so he couldn’t guess what she was really thinking.

Agnes gritted her teeth, looking into Jared’s eyes, her emotions becoming clearer.

I know exactly what I’m doing, Agnes said.

With that, Agnes leaned in for another kiss.

This time, it was different from the gentle peck before.

Agnes was passionate, even provocative.

Jared had just stepped out of the shower, his body bare.

Agnes‘ hand rested on Jared’s chest.

She found that Jared’s body was warmer than her palm.

But Jared seemed frozen in place.

His gaze was fixed on Agnes‘ face, his eyes a blur as he took in her deliberately teasing demeanor.

Jared is a smart man, and Agnes is all too aware of it.

Now, she’s backed into a corner.

If she backs out now, Jared would get suspicious in no time.

She needed to mess with his head completely to feel reassured.

Even if it means going bonkers, she would go bonkers just this once.

She could feel it, Jared’s body temperature was on the rise.

Chapter 608

The confusion in his eyes and his piercing gaze just now were also gradually fading.

Based on Agnes‘ past experience, Jared’s mind was at its purest at this moment.

Of course, it was also at its most dangerous.

In the next second, Jared turned the tables, pressing Agnes against the door, and a passionate kiss followed…

Jared admitted he’s caught in an emotional whirlpool.

Agnes‘ behaviour tonight was downright odd.

She actually returned here from the Capital, even sneaking into his room in the middle of the night.

And now…he was trying his best to stay lucid.

Agnes‘ actions were out of character, and he had working hard to figure out her intentions.

But her kiss was intoxicating.

Like an endless dream, the void in his heart that he couldn’t grasp seems to be filled instantly.

He didn’t want to overthink.

No matter her intentions, as long as she was interested in him, it’s all good.

He cherished his current feelings too much.

Even if he lost his sanity, he couldn’t bear to reject her.

Jared had already lifted Agnes up, heading straight for the bed.

Agnes‘ mind was also in chaos. The close proximity of Jared sent her into a daze.

She had never lost her mind like this in all these years.

Over the past four years, she had put the past feuds, Jared’s kindness, his dominance, everything about him.

She didn’t dare to recall.

But only she knew how much it hurt when she saw Nocturne’s sleeping face.

When Agnes and Jared’s bodies touched, it felt like the pain was healed.

They were apart for four years, but in the end, they couldn’t resist getting close to each other for warmth.

If it wasn’t for the increasingly loud knocking on the door outside, Agnes thought she might just keep falling like this.

Nocturne’s knocking from outside couldn’t be ignored.

Agnes knew Nocturne’s temperament. He’s as stubborn as Jared.

He wouldn’t be knocking like this if it wasn’t important.

But Agnes didn’t dare to persuade Jared to go check on him.

Jared, however, felt that Summer standing at the door was indeed a nuisance.

He was not used to being eavesdropped on by a child.

In the end, it was Jared who let go of Agnes, his voice had become low, “Wait for me, I’ll handle this.”

Agnes snapped back to reality, grabbing Jared’s neck, “Don’t go.”

Jared looked at Agnes, his gaze softening considerably.

He gently kissed her forehead, saying, “I’ll be right back.”

With that, he stood up, wrapped a bath towel around himself, and walked towards the door.

Agnes quickly pulled the blanket on the bed and hid under it.

The door was pushed open.

As expected, Nocturne was standing at the door.

Jared asked, “Is there something urgent?”

Nocturne calmly replied, “Sir, I’m sorry, it’s time for my medication.”

Nocturne has to take his medication on time every day, usually before he goes to bed.

Jared was aware of this, the medication was on the table in the bedroom.

Chapter 609

Jared spun around to grab the meds and got a glass of water.

Entering the room, he saw Agnes completely hidden under the covers, motionless.

As Jared gave Nocturne his meds, he took him to another bedroom.

He told Nocturne, You should go to bed. You’re sleeping alone here tonight, okay?”

Nocturne nodded, “Sir, did I trouble you earlier?”

Jared didn’t expect Nocturne to be self–aware.

But all Jared could say was, “No, everything is fine.”

He just wanted to get back to his room ASAP.

Nocturne suddenly asked curiously, “Was that lady just now your girlfriend?”

Jared thought for a moment, “She’s my wife.”

Nocturne nodded, “I see, sir, you should head back. Being with your wife is crucial.”

Jared couldn’t help but chuckle.

How does he always manage to say these things with such a straight face?

Who the hell taught him?

After tucking in Nocturne, Jared emerged from his room, switched off the light, and shut the door.

Then he returned to his room.

But upon entering, he found the bed was already empty.

There was a note on the pillow: “Forget about today”

Jared frowned, clutching the note in his hand.

Agnes, you come and go as you please, what do you take me for?

Agnes ran away the moment Jared left.

Thank god Nocturne came in to distract him.

Otherwise, Agnes couldn’t even promise what would’ve happened just now.

Agnes drove off from Maplewood Manor, far away

Her heart was still racing.

The air still smelled of Jared, and her fingertips still carried his warmth

Agnes drove straight to Cedarwood Manor

In the following days, Jared kept trying to find out about Agnes.

He even went to the Pritchard family mansion personally.

But Agnes had disappeared out of the blue again, without a trace.

Jared started to wonder if Agnes was going down the same path as four years ago.

What bothered him was Agnes‘ attitude that night, that kiss she initiated.

What the hell was she trying to do?

Summer’s parents didn’t contact him either.

A few days ago, Kerri called, saying Summer’s parents got caught up and couldn’t get away.

After thinking for a few days, Jared got the picture.

The first time he met Summer, he was being followed by a bunch of men in black at the Empire International Hotel, his parents must be a big shot.

Especially when he was giving Summer a bath these last few days.

He had a pendant around his neck, a bead.

Jared found it vaguely familiar.

Then he remembered, this bead seemed to have something to do with Reggie.

After investigating Reggie for so many years, Jared didn’t expect Summer to have such a deep connection with the mob boss.

Kerri asked Jared to send Summer back or let her pick Summer up, but Jared rejected both

If Summer is involved with Reggie, he wants to get to the bottom of it.

During the days when Agnes disappeared, she stayed in Cedarwood Manor.

Even Jared, capable as he is, wouldn’t be able to find her here

In these days, Agnes just felt lost, because she didn’t know what to do next.

Chapter 610

Agnes couldn’t take Nocturne away from Jared without raising suspicion.

She even considered asking Ryder for help.

But Ryder’s been busy attending a medical summit in Manhattan

And even if Ryder did intervene, there was no guarantee it wouldn’t make Jared suspicious.

Still, Agnes kept tabs on Nocturne’s whereabouts every day

She found that Nocturne’s daily locations were between Tim Tower and Maplewood Manor

The fact that Jared was taking Nocturne to the office everyday was beyond Agnes‘ expectations.

It only made her worry more.

With so many people in the office, rumors were bound to fly.

Tim Tower, Jared’s office.

When Leo walked in with some documents, Jared was sitting in his office chair, staring blankly at his computer.

Lately, Mr. Whitfield had been spacing out a lot

Leo knocked on the door.

Finally, Jared came back to reality and said, “Come in.”

After Leo reported on the work progress of the past few days, he told Jared, “Mr. Whitfield, the engagement party invitations are ready for you to review.”

With that, Leo placed an invitation on Jared’s desk.

The invitation was in an envelope–style, with the names of Jared and Valeria on it.

It was very simple, but had a nostalgic feel to it, especially with both of their names printed on it, giving it a unique charm.

Jared only glanced at it briefly without even opening it.

He said, “Tell Valeria, anything she likes is fine. Don’t bother showing me this stuff anymore.”

Leo did as he was told.

Everyone at the Tim Group knew that Mr. Whitfield was getting engaged in a week.

The media had been reporting on it for half a month.

People had been speculating that Valeria was Mr. Whitfield’s fiancée.

When it was officially announced, no one was surprised.

Both Jared and Valeria were well–matched elites in society.

Valeria was the general manager of the Thomas Group, and she was said to run a vineyard abroad.

Such a powerful woman was beyond reach for most.

But recently, a piece of news caught everyone’s attention

It was a video of newcomer Sharon from the entertainment industry crying in a parking lot

Some said she was devastated upon hearing about Jared’s engagement.

Others speculated it was a publicity stunt.

It was an open secret in the entertainment world that Jared was Sharon’s sugar daddy.

Sharon was an artist under Century Entertainment.

More than once, the media had captured pictures of her dining with Ivan, Mamie, and Jared.

Being able to dine with these high–profile people meant she had a powerful backing.

Considering Sharon was an orphan and used to be a bartender, it was hard not to question how she climbed the social ladder.

Rumors had been going around that she had multiple sugar daddies.

Until one time, the media caught Jared personally taking Sharon to the hospital to the gynecology department.

Later, Sharon’s abortion records were exposed by the media.

This confirmed the rumors that Jared was Sharon’s sugar daddy.

In fact, there had been many female celebrities rumored to be involved with Jared over the years, but most of these rumors were short–lived.

Sharon was an exception, she had been with Jared for three years.

She had an abortion for Jared and lived in his mansion

Jared even hosted a personal concert for her, which catapulted her to the pinnacle of the entertainment world.

There were even rumors that Jared’s affection for her exceeded his affection for his exwife.

But when the news of Jared’s engagement came out, the public opinion began to shift.
