Chapter twenty - Bond

I heard him grunt and I thought that maybe he was annoyed. I started to move away when I heard him call my name for the first time in days.

"Ava" he said softly. My belly summersaulted. My eyes widened and I stopped moving.

I turned around.

"Yes...?" I asked softly. Agh I'm so whipped.

"Come here" he replied.

I sucked in a deep breath and slowly started toward the area where he was bathing. I took off my shoes and pants. Dipping my foot into the water before I plunged into it. The water was cool, not cold, not hot, just cool.

It wasn't deep and only covered me up to my waist, however, the closer I got to him the deeper it got.

When I reached him the water covered me up to my chest.

I stayed there and looked up at him. He turned around and my heart exploded.

His eyes were intense , his jagged scar, beautiful.

He moved closer to me and I started breathing faster. He moved lower, down to my level.

His lips were pursed as if he were fighting something internally. His black hair fell on his forehead dripping wet, his skin looked warm and wet. I wanted to touch him.

"Why do you do this to me"

I was shocked at his sudden confession.

"Why do YOU do this to ME" I found myself saying back. He studied me intensely.

He sighed.

"Ava...I'm not some fairytale knight in shining armor, things aren't just that simple, I can't just..."

My heart sank and I swallowed hard.

"Can't what?" My voice shook. Fuck no I don't want him to know this hurt.

His eyes widened a little when he heard my voice.

"Ava I'm just trying to protect you"

"From who? You?" He hesitated. It had been days since I last saw any other emotion on him other than blank, cold nothingness.

"You don't know the things I've done"

"So you keep saying"

"Ava" he breathed out.

I started getting frustrated. He was being difficult. He shut me out for DAYS. It made me feel like shit.

I grumbled and started moving away, back where I came from. Ace moved lightning fast and grabbed my arm stopping me.

His hand spread heat throughout my whole body. I whipped around and found his face inches away from mine.

He was scowling.

"Can't you see!? I'm trying to protect you! I'M A MONSTER AVA! I'VE KILLED MILLIONS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE! I CAN'T CONTROL MYSELF! I'M NOT STABLE. ALL THOSE YEARS AGO IT WAS ME! I KILLED MY OWN FUCKING PEOPLE BECAUSE I WAS TOO FUCKING WEAK TO FIGHT AGAINST A SIMPLE FUCKING SPELL! I MURDERED THEM, BURNED THEM,CRUSHED THEM! ALL THE WHILE I COULD HEAR THEIR SCREAMS I COULDN'T STOP! AND FOR 400 FUCKING YEARS I WAS USED AS A PET, I CANT PROMISE YOU WHEN I WONT TURN INTO A MONSTER LIKE I DID ALL THOSE YEARS AGO! I CAN'T PROMISE YOU YOUR SAFETY WHEN YOU'RE AROUND ME!"

He stopped. His breathing was heavy and beads of sweat mixed with water ran down the side of his face.

"I can't promise you your safety" he repeated softly, his voice hoarse.

My heart dropped and I could feel his pain through our bond, however weak it might've been.

I moved closer to him and placed my hand on his face. I wish I could tell him. I wish I could tell him that he's not dangerous. I wish I could tell him that it wasn't his fault, but my throat was dry and tight.

All I could do was show him, SHOW him that I wasn't afraid. I closed the distance between us and placed a soft kiss on his lips, promising him that everything would turn out okay.

He lifted up his hand and tangled it into my already tangled hair as he deepened the kiss.

I pushed closer to him, and kissed him back more fiercely. Promising him that I wouldn't leave no matter what, promising him that I wasn't afraid. My hands found his back and I dug my nails into it. He growled and bit my lip.

A small gasp escaped my lips when I felt myself being lifted off the ground. Quickly I wrapped my legs around his torso as he walked us out of the water.

He laid me down on a soft patch of grass and stopped. He hovered over me staring down at me. Our bond deepened and It felt like waves crashing. It felt like there had been something blocking all the water and now everything was flowing out in full force.

"Ace..." I breathed out.

"Mmh." he replied

"I know you think that I should be afraid of you but I'm not. I know you think you're a monster but you're not. It wasn't your fault" I said softly. His brows creased and he leaned down closer.

"Why are you so good to me ?" he asked, sounding genuinely perplexed.

I couldn't answer his question because I didn't know either. Instead, I closed the space between us and kissed him again.

"You're special Ava" he said in-between kisses. I stopped and pulled back, shooting him a questioning look. At first I thought he was just being sweet but then he pressed on.

"I know what happened to your parents" he said softly. My breath hitched.

How did he know?

"And I know you blame yourself" he continued.

"In a way we're the same"

"You have power, coursing through your veins. I can feel it. I could feel it from the moment I saw you" I stared up at him, speechless. I wanted to deny it, but I knew he was right.

"That's how I heard your scream, we formed a bond because Ava...I don't think you're entirely human"
