Chapter 34 

As he heard this, Johann’s face suddenly turned pale. He shook in disbelief, and his eyes were full of shock. 

“You…you’re still blaming me, aren’t you? So you said that to take revenge on me, right? Edith, don’t be angry. I’ll listen to you in the future. Stop joking. okay?” 

Johann looked so anxious as if he had lost his most precious treasure. 

Seeing him like this, Edith felt awful. Tears rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably drop by drop. 

She was heartbroken. 

Edith shook off his hand and repeated, “I’m already married. Johann, listen up. I’m already married. 

“Not long after you took Vanessa away, I finished my studies and went home. What awaited me was to marry on Vanessa’s behalf because I could be considered the daughter of the Meyer family. Johann, didn’t I ask you back then? You still chose to take her away and left me behind. I didn’t choose this path. You forced me to do that.” 

Hearing this, Johann broke down in an instant. He staggered back, unable to accept such an ending 

“No I didn’t. And I didn’t know you were going to marry on Vanessa’s behalf. And she never told me.” 

“Why didn’t she tell you? You should let her answer this question. Am I right, Vanessa?” 

Edith’s gaze fell on Vanessa, who was coming from behind Johann. Vanessa glared at Edith, gritted her teeth, and wished she could bite her. 

But the moment Johann turned around, Vanessa restrained all her nasty expressions, and her eyes instantly turned red. Vanessa’s tears came out of her eyes, and she seemed to be on the verge of falling. She looked so pitiful. 

Edith marveled at Vanessa’s superb acting skills. It was a pity that Vanessa didn’t enter showbiz. 

Meeting Johann’s angry and questioning gaze, Vanessa kept shaking her head, and tears rolled down her cheeks. 

She choked, “Johann, I really didn’t know that Dad had asked Edith to get married on my behalf. I regretted it when I came back and knew this. I didn’t dare to tell you….because this matter has been settled.” 

Vanessa took a step forward and knelt down in front of Edith with a thud. 

The sound made people’s hearts tremble. Just listening to it made them feel pain. 

Edith frowned. She knew that Vanessa was putting on a show. 

Sure enough, Vanessa cried hard and clutched the corner of Edith’s clothes, looking so humble and pitiful. 

“Edith, I’m sorry. If you’re angry, just vent it on me. I won’t complain. But you can’t treat Johann like this. He really loves you. When he was with me, he kept thinking about you. Forgive Johann. It’s all my fault… it’s all my fault…” 

Vanessa sobbed. 

Johann couldn’t bear to see it anymore, and his anger turned into pity. He couldn’t help worrying about Vanessa. 

“Vanny, stand up first. Edith is so kind. She won’t blame you.” 

When Edith heard this, she suddenly felt bitter. 

She thought, “I’m kind…. 

Am I so kind that I can even forgive such a thing?

Edith suddenly felt that it was ridiculous to have such a despicable cousin and such a “kind and righteous” ex–boyfriend. 

It was good to break up with Johann like this. 

Edith took a deep breath, smiled faintly, and said lightly, “Of course, I won’t blame you. You are so innocent, kind, and pure that you need to be loved and protected. As for that playboy, I should deal with him, right?”
