Dweller
Chapter 27

The meat from the sack slowly disappears. I eat when I’m hungry and bored and sleep when I finish. Quarry gave me the whole body of whatever creature this was. With the limitation of water. There was no water, so I had to do it in other ways… I had to drink its blood. It was definitely not the best idea as it tastes worse than the meat but it's keeping me alive for now.

I could never understand how vampires could live off of that stuff. I had finally finished the chunk of meat. Sometimes whenever I woke up I would get sick, but I assumed it was just because I wasn’t used to eating so much and so fast.

It had been a couple of days since the morsel of meat was gone. When I hear the all too familiar sound of the rattling of keys as the sound echoed around me. The clunking and rattling of footsteps coming closer, surrounding me from all directions. The squeaking sound of mice and other rodents can be heard but are nowhere close to me. The sound of metal scraping against the hard stone cold floor can be heard, the noise resonating closer. The squeaking of a door opening sounds to be right next to me.

When finally the door opens and someone steps through already holding a pre light lantern. The natural light never flooded showing it was dark in the night. The new lady walked in and the door latched closed.

The room quickly lit up. The light bouncing off the walls. She had a tall slender figure, long amber hair that slowly flickered around. Showing off her great figure and highlighting her perfectly round face. Her skin is as white as a ghost. She's wearing a green tucked in shirt with rifled short sleeves. Long black jeans.

Her face seemed to sag a bit with sadness as she looked over my body. I also looked at myself. My body had sagged in my arms and bones had no fat on them and you could see my ribs. I looked back u p to the familiar faced woman. I wasn't sure why I was sure I knew her but I did.

“C-cc….n I h-l..p y.o-u” I choked out my voice cracking. My throat strained as I tried to clear my voice enough to talk. My tongue had gone dry a while ago.

“No dear, I just needed someone to talk to.” She spoke sweaty and softly. Almost as if she spoke too loud I would break. She leaned down and sat in front of me putting the lantern on the ground next to her.

The lantern shone a star shape of light around it. Brightening up her face and turning the rest of the room to darkness. The lantern was placed in the middle of us. Brighting each other's bodies. The light is warming up my cold and aching muscles.

I tried my best to nod but with no strength it was hard to do. The woman seemed to understand however and started talking to me. She talked about how mean her husband was and she talked about her children. She seemed to have a favorite as she talked about her one daughter the most.

She told me how much she missed her and told me small stories about her when she was young. It warmed my heart. I hoped that she would find her daughter. I felt sorry that she had gotten separated from her family and It felt very similar to my situation.

She also kept apologizing. I wasn't sure if she was saying sorry to me or to her daughter but I just continued to stay still and listened. She talked for a good hour or what it felt like, could have been longer. With the little ability to tell the time I had no idea. As she talked I just continued to listen. Letting her tell stories and listen to making herself laugh.

A knock at the door made her stop talking about her favorite types of food. She stood up, taking the lantern with her. Her sad sympathetic smile returned.

“Well it was nice talking to you Quincy. I hope to talk to you later.” And with that she twirled around the door, opened before she reached and closed as she walked out.

She was a kind lady and she was a good distraction to everything else that was going on. Wait… How did she know my name? I never told her.. Unless Quarry told her.. But then that would mean that they wear on a personal level… Welpppp there goes all of my trust for her. Not like there was much.

Time continued to pass and food and water was still not delivered. However periodically the woman would come back and talk all about her day. What she did then she would reminisce about the past. Then that knock at the door would come and she would leave. However a couple of days later she would return and this pattern continued on.

There was one time where I felt like she didnt come for days. Until I heard the same sounds that I heard whenever someone entered the cave.

The rattling of keys. The clunking and rattling of footsteps. The squeaking sound of mice and other rodents. The sound of metal scraping against the hard stone cold floor and finally, the squeaking of a door opening sounds to be right next to me. The blinding light came through and was then blocked by three figures.

One of them snickered revealing that there was a man in the group. The figure in the middle walked through the doorway. The other two walked in a line behind him. Slamming the door is necessary loud.

They had no lights and seemed to have no magic as their footsteps walked around me. It felt like the scene where people went on boats and described getting circled by sharks. It was worse though because at night you at least have the moon to give you light but now there was nothing.

“Well well… Would you look at what we have heard boys.” Said one the people revealing there was either another man in the group or that he was the one that had snickered.

I had concluded that they could see in the dark meaning they were obviously not human.
