Chapter 6 The Loneliness

Tears welled up in Layla’s eyes as she weakly forced a smile, her face filled with sadness. You should focus on your studies. The SAT is coming up soon”

That’s enough!Zachary cut Layla off. He couldn’t understand how this woman always stayed so calm, like no hurtful words could get to her. Zachary even wondered if Layla was even capable of getting angry

But her calmness only made Zachary angrier, with no way to let out his frustration.

Zachary gave Layla a cold look and said, “Leave me alone.”

With those words, Zachary turned around and walked away. Layla stood there, watching Zachary vanish into the night

In the darkness, the streetlights cast a long shadow of Layla.

The night swallowed Layla, and loneliness washed over her like a tidal wave

When Layla got home, she went to Zachary’s room. She gently pushed the door, relieved to find it locked.

At least Zachary was back.

That night, Wesley didn’t call or message her anymore.

Layla lay in bed, unable to sleep, tossing and turning all night.

The next day, Layla woke up early to make breakfast for Zachary and then went to the hospital.

Layla made her rounds in the morning, attended a conference at ten o’clock, and observed in the afternoon…

It wasn’t until eight o’clock in the evening that Layla finished her busy day. She packed up and prepared to leave, but as she stepped out of her office, she bumped into a strong man.

Layla looked up and quickly stepped back when she saw the man’s face.

Just as Layla regained her balance, she saw Amy walking

towards them.

Amy said, “Wesley, you’re here.”

Amy hurriedly approached Wesley, linking her arm with his, then looked at Layla and asked, “Layla, are you leaving work

now?”

Yes,Layla nodded and said, “I have something to take care of at home, so I’ll leave first.”

After saying that, Layla turned to leave

But as Layla tried to take a step, Amy grabbed her arm. Layla, it’s late. Let us give you a ride.”

Layla hesitated for a moment, then declined, saying, No

thanks.”

It’s really not a problem. I remember your home is quite far

Layla glanced at Wesley and noticed his icy stare. She lowered

her gaze a little and coldly refused, “There’s really no need. I can

take a taxi.”

Layla…” Amy started, but before she could persuade her further, Wesley interrupted, “I’ll drive you.”

Layla had intended to decline, but Amy, afraid that Layla might escape, quickly changed direction with Wesley and grabbed onto Layla’s arm, saying, “Wesley agreed, so let’s go.”

With that, Amy led them towards the hospital exit, holding onto both Wesley and Layla.

Layla glanced at her hand held by Amy, then discreetly looked at Wesley. Wesley remained calm, as if he didn’t even know her.

Layla wondered how Wesley could stay so calm in the presence of his fiancée and her.

When they reached the entrance of the parking lot, Wesley suddenly stopped and his expression turned serious.

Amy looked at him and asked, “Wesley, what’s wrong?”

Amy, I suddenly feel sick to my stomach,Wesley replied.

Upon hearing this, Amy anxiously asked, What happened? Should we go back to the hospital right away?”

No need, I just need some rest. Can you drive the car out for me?Wesley handed the car key to Amy

Amy didn’t question him and went towards the garage with the car key in hand

Meanwhile, Wesley crouched down.

Layla took a step forward, intending to support him. However, she noticed a spark in his eyes.

Instinctively, Layla took a step back and turned to chase after Amy. But before she could go far, Wesley stood up, pulled her into his arms, and passionately kissed her, silencing her words.
