Chapter 23 The Worst Plan 

When Layla came around, she saw a white ceiling. When she moved, she felt a sharp pain in her head, which made her gasp. 

The pain made her sober in an instant. She glanced around and found her lying in a hospital bed in a six–patient ward. 

The hospital was not Azure Hospital, where she worked. 

Layla touched her head and found that it had been wrapped in gauze. It might have been treated by a doctor. 

What had happened came to Layla’s mind again. She was safe and sent to the hospital. What about Zachary? Where was he? Was he safe and sound? 

Layla struggled to sit up but disturbed the girl in the next bed. 

“Miss, you are awake.” 

“Yes.” 

“I’ll call the doctor for you.” 

The patient in the next bed was enthusiastic. Before Layla spoke, the girl had called the doctor for Layla. 

The doctor checked Layla. 

When Layla was about to ask the doctor who sent her there the night before, she realized someone was staring at her.

Zachary heard Layla’s voice and walked into the ward. He stood aside without saying a word.

young man, who was supposed to be with a bright smile, had a mature and gloomy look in his eyes, which was different from his peers. 

Layla’s gaze fell on Zachary’s gauze–wrapped leg. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she felt unspeakably uncomfortable, “Zachary, are you alright?” 

“Yes.” 

Zachary was still indifferent to Layla, but his eyes were no longer full of hatred. 

He probably had realized that Layla would never hurt him no matter what she did. 

She could even risk her life for him. 

Therefore, Zachary was peaceful, not hostile, to Layla. 

“Fine.” 

When Layla said that, she remembered something. Seeing other people in the ward, she said nothing more. 

Two minutes later, the doctor finished the check. 

“Doctor, when can I leave the hospital?” 

“As long as you have a good rest, you can be discharged from the hospital soon.” 

“But, I…” 

With that, the doctor turned around and winked at Zachary before walking out. 

Zachary got the doctor’s signal and said bluntly, “Have a good rest. I have asked for leave from the hospital for you. I will go out and bring you some food.” 

With that, Zachary walked out of the ward, giving Layla no chance to talk to him. 

Seeing Zachary limping away, Layla felt sad. Zachary was not a rebellious boy who only knew how to cause trouble anymore. 

Sometimes, he was a sensible child and an upright man who protected his sister unconditionally. 

Outside the ward, Zachary and the doctor stood opposite each other. Even though Zachary was lame in one leg, his back was straight. When he was standing, he was no different from an average person and even looked more energetic. 

“Doctor, tell me the truth. How is she doing?” 

There was a trace of worry in Zachary’s gloomy eyes. The doctor saw it clearly but realized something was wrong with how Zachary got along with Layla. 

The sister and brother were having a conflict. 

The younger brother cared about his elder sister but acted indifferently in front of her. 

“The truth? The truth always hurts…” 

“It does not matter.” 

“She received a heavy blow on her head. It was unexpected that she came around so quickly. To be honest, I thought she would be unconscious for at least three to five days…” 

“You can be straightforward. I can bear it.” Zachary interrupted the doctor. His hands clenched into fists and became sweaty. 

The doctor found Zachary nervous and gave up the thought of joking with him. He said, “It’s hard to judge her situation. It seems that there is no problem, but it does not mean that there will be no problem in the future.” 

“What’s the worst that can happen?” 

The doctor didn’t expect the young man to want to make the worst plan. He was taken aback and told the truth. “She might become an ignorant fool.” 

“A fool?” Zachary’s eyes glittered. “In other words, she won’t die. Am I right?” 

“In principle, yes.” The doctor was uncertain about what Zachary was thinking and couldn’t help but give Zachary a meaningful look. “It’s better for her not to become a fool. If She became a fool, you 

couldn’t watch her all the time. Then, she might be in danger.” 

When Zachary sent Layla to the hospital, he had some friends by his side. 

As Layla’s attending doctor, Zach knew why Layla was injured. 

“I see. Thank you, Doctor Stewart.” 

“You’re welcome. It is what I should do.” 

With that, Zach turned around and was about to leave. 

Zachary stopped him. “Doctor Stewart, when can she be discharged from the hospital?” 

“At least, we have to wait until the wound on her head has scabbed. Then, she needs to stay here for another two or three days.” 

“How long?” 

“If her situation is good, about ten days. If it is not good…” 

“Is there a way to make her stay in the hospital longer?” Zachary interrupted Zach and said frankly, “She has been tired after taking care of me for so long. I hope she can take a good rest when she is injured.” 

Zach was surprised at first. Hearing Zachary’s explanation, he understood Zachary’s intentions and sighed, “What a weird boy! Don’t worry. I will help you. 

“However, you should know the hospitalization fee is high. You 

“Doctor Stewart, you don’t have to worry about the medical expenses.” 

“Well.” 

With that, Zach turned and left. 

Standing at the ward door, Zachary glanced at the ward where Layla was. 

Since Layla could not do without seeing that man, Zachary would find a way for her to avoid that man so that she couldn’t go to see that man and that man couldn’t find her. 

After making the decision, Zachary turned and left the hospital. 

At that moment, in the ward, Layla didn’t know what Zachary was thinking. Although the wound on her head had been treated, it still hurt so much that she wanted to sleep to numb herself. 

She closed her eyes. No matter how relaxed she was, she just couldn’t fall asleep. 

Messy scenes broke into her mind alternately. There were Zachary’s disgusted eyes, Wesley’s indifferent but dignified face, and the scene of Wesley threatening her with Zachary. 

Even Amy flitted through her mind, disturbing her thoughts.
