Chapter 10 I’ve Investigated You 

“You hit me because of that old man?” Zachary shouted at Layla incredulously, “Layla, you’re unbelievable! If you like him so much, why did you come back? Why do you care about what I do?” 

“Zachary, I… I’m sorry.” 

After calming down, Layla’s hands were trembling. She trembled and approached Zachary, but he kept stepping back. 

As Zachary looked at her, his gaze held not only the previous disgust but also an additional layer of disappointment. 

“Zachary…” 

After retreating to the bedroom door, Zachary looked at Layla with disgust and indifference. 

“Layla, not all apologies can be accepted.” 

“Zachary, I…” 

“Buzz… Buzz, buzz…” At this moment, the phone rang and vibrated strongly on the table. 

Layla turned around to grab the phone, but Zachary realized something and said, “Layla, if you leave here tonight, never come back again. I don’t have a sister like you!” 

After finishing his words, Zachary no longer looked at Layla. He 

Layla looked at the closed door and reached out to grab her phone. When she saw the time on the phone, she realized it was already ten to twelve. 

After hesitating for a long time, Layla finally decided to turn off the phone. 

Inside the bedroom, Zachary stood silently behind the door for a long time. When he realized that the phone wouldn’t ring again, he slowly loosened his tightly clenched hands, and the rope in his hand slipped to the ground. 

Little did Layla know that even if she wanted to leave tonight, Zachary would find a way to stop her. 

Zachary had made up his mind. Even if he had to tie Layla up tonight, he would keep her here. 

On the other side, in the luxurious apartment that had carried six years of Layla’s youth and memories, Wesley sat in the living room and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past midnight. 

With a command, Wesley used voice control to turn off all the lights in the apartment. He then took out a lighter from his pocket. 

Wesley rhythmically pressed the lighter. The flame appeared and extinguished in his hand. In the flickering light, Wesley’s face could only be vaguely seen, making it difficult to discern his expression. 

The dancing flame emitted a charming yet dangerous light. 

The next morning, Layla, as usual, woke up early and hurried to the hospital. 

Upon entering the hospital, she ran into Amy. 

Seeing that Layla looked a little pale, Amy apologized, “Layla, I’m sorry. I was supposed to give you a ride home yesterday, but Wesley wasn’t feeling well…” 

“It’s okay,” Hearing Amy mention Wesley, Layla restrained the discomfort in her heart and said to Amy, “Thank you for your 

kindness.” 

Layla didn’t really want to thank Amy. 

After all, if Amy hadn’t insisted on giving her a ride yesterday, perhaps the subsequent events wouldn’t have happened. 

“I didn’t help you. You don’t need to thank me.” 

As they spoke, they walked together toward the office. 

After entering the department, Layla sat down at her desk, but she noticed that Amy kept staring at her. 

Layla tried to ignore Amy’s gaze, but the piercing intensity of Amy’s direct stare was so overpowering that it made her feel 

uneasy. 

Moreover, there were only two of them in the department now, which made it even harder for Layla to avoid it. 

Just when Layla thought Amy had discovered something, Amy said, “Layla, I’ve investigated you…” 

you are the last one I’ve checked.”
