Chapter 14

Gran Furrow pranced down the hall, trying to relax and get his throbbing member under control.

Talk about a complex female. Of all the dumb f ucking luck.

The woman who’d walked into his building was all attitude with a f uck-with-me-and-regret-it glare, lithe frame, and intriguing face. The little minx had gotten his blood pumping, making his di ck harden to the point of pain. As a male, he couldn’t resist the challenge she’d issued. There was no give in her, zero softness. Even if she’d been aroused by his flirting. she’d blown him off good and proper. She’d be a hellion in the sack, giving as good as she got.

Stop thinking with the wrong head. Simply Jade has to wait, he told himself.

Another visitor had thrown a wrench into what could have been a very good time. F uck if it didn’t pi ss him off. Just once he’d like to relax and unwind without having to do the right thing.

Go d da mn Shirley. What was the soon to be Ex wife of Holden Hone doing here? Gram couldn’t help but frown.

It was bad enough dealing with Claire the evening before. The woman was beyond annoying and after Callum like a hare looking to mate. Talking to the obtuse female before he’d even settled into his routine yesterday had burned out all the patience he had for bothersome females. Hopefully, Shirley wasn’t here to irritate him too.

“Grant, Shirley called with her usual cold purr as she turned from the rimmed tattoo on the wall.

She’d dressed to intimidate as she always did with her leather skirt and long golden hair hanging in bouncy curls down her back. Fortunately, werewolves had higher body temperatures and could handle the cold. Otherwise, she’d be freezing her

balls off.

She shifted her feet, her high heels clicking on the floor, and her full, cherry red lips dipped into a frown. “You don’t look happy to see me.”

That’s the understatement of the f ucking millennium.

Tm never happy to see people who come in without making an appointment.”

“Then I’ll make this quick.”

As she approached, a frown marred Grant’s features. Was Shirley trying to come onto him, or was he reading the signs. wrong? What was she really doing here!

Shifting her hips from side to side, making her legs flex with each step. She moved closer to him and stared him in the eye.

“I went to see Callum this morning, but he wasn’t home. Do you know where I can find him?”

Grant frowned. Tm second-in-command, not his secretary.

“Oh, come on. Everyone knows Callum tells you everything. That’s why you’re his Beta.” She stopped at the counter and leaned over it, revealing huge breasts that strained to escape the leather material confining them. She was definitely trying to seduce him. Helad noticed her looking at him during pack meetings, but he never expected her to actually act on her hints, especially since she was already married. But now that she was getting a divorce… “There is a very important matter I need to talk to him about and you are not helping.”

“What on earth would the wife of our rival pack have to tell our Alpha that her husband hasn’t already said? Whatever you have to say to Callum, you can tell me and I will pa** the message on. If not, then please take your wonton sell to your husband.” As soon as the words came out, he wanted to kick himself in the as s. He didn’t want to start a pack war by insulating a pack Luna, but he just couldn’t help himself sometimes.

Thankfully the insult didn’t land. “That’s you, always making a joke of things. This isn’t a joking matter, Grant”

He shrugged. “I agree. So why don’t you tell me what it is?”

Chapter 14

“It’s a matter between Alphas” Shirley’s dark brown eyes lifted a shade as her lips thinned into a serious line. “That’s why I need to talk to Callum. Once he understands what’s at stake, he’ll understand why speaking to me on this matter is very critical and time-sensitive.

Grant lowered his arms and slid his hands into his pockets before looking straight at her “As I said, I’m not his secretary. If he wasn’t home, he probably had things he needed to do. Call his cell and leave a message. I’m sure he’ll get back to you when he’s got a minute to spare.”

Whatever Shirley’s issue was, Grant was stire it wasn’t going to be good news for the pack. Shirley Bone was trouble, but she was a trouble Callum would have to deal with

“Well…” She frowned and glanced around the parlor. “What if I waited here? He’s bound to show up sooner or later.” She looked down at her bare arm. You could work on my arm while we wait. I’ve always wanted a tattoo anyway.”

“As tempting as that sounds, I’m booked”

He peered down the hall, thinking about the fiery temptress with wild strawberry hair and eyes the color of the morning sky. He wondered if she’d stayed where he’d put her. A part of him hoped she hadn’t so he could make good on his threat.

“In fact, he continued, “you interrupted me while I was speaking to a client. I need to get to work.”

“Tell him I’m looking for him.” Her voice took on a harsh edge, becoming even more serious and Grant couldn’t help the worry that pric ked his skin. Im sure you are aware of the little issue I’m having with my husband. Unless Callum wants to p iss me off, he’ll make sure he finds time to see me. It won’t bode well for him if a war was to start because he refused to hear me out And one more piece of advice, it would be wise for your pack to consider Claire’s proposal before it’s too late.”

Sh it.

He kept his mouth shut, knowing his smart-as s remarks would no longer be welcome. He watched as she walked across the room and left the building. It wasn’t until the door closed that he released the breath he’d been holding.

Fan-freaking-tastic.

The pack already had enough going on dealing with a forced arranged mating, and now this? Callum was going to hit the roof when he found out about this. It seems Claire had managed to get Shirley on her side and this was not good news in any way. Add that to the fact that Claire’s father, William Van, wasn’t the most easygoing werewolf in the area, and everyone knew he worshiped his only child.

Shaking his head, Grant headed back down the hall. At least there was one thing to look forward to. He was about to discover if his unexpected guest did as she was told. He growled when he opened the door. Not only was she not where heil left her. but the linle hellian had given him the slip.

He didn’t bother looking out the opened window, rushing back down the hall instead. He heard a car start followed by the sound of grinding gravel. He ran across the sitting area and opened the door, knowing he was too late.
