Chapter 34 ~ Our Nighmare Was Over

Alexander and Ella’s baby boys came into the world exactly two weeks after the trial.. Gabriel and Raphael.. So beautiful!! And I am so in love with them! Our babies are three months old and growing like weeds! Callum weighs sixteen pounds, already.. while our beautiful Calliope is half that. She’s going to be short.. like me.

We wonder if she’s a white wolf. Her eyes are the signature color of one.. like mine. My poor baby! I’m not sure if I want that for her! But..it’s not like we have a choice. With Calli.. that pits us at three white wolves in one generation..and I can’t help but feel Mother Moon is gearing up for something big!

Jaxson found his mate, when we were at Capital City for the trial. Her name is Saundra, and she’s just the sweetest thing. We are having her Beta ceremony tonight and I’m excited! The pack is overdue for a party!

Kendrick walks up behind me, holding Calliope “She’s fighting going down for a nap, little Momma! I don’t think she likes the bottle…at all!” I took the baby from him and sat in the glider on the porch.. I fed her, while Kendrick and I talked lowly. She soothed and was asleep in minutes. Kendrick smiles “Ah.. that sweet touch of a mommy!” I laughed “Ah! The sweet taste of boob milk! They are in the nursery, right? The bassinet cannot hold Callum any longer..and I want them to get used to their own room.” He nods and says “Callum took eight ounces of formula..which seems to be his normal need today.. up an ounce from yesterday. At this rate, the boy is going to eat us out of house and home!”

We finished setting everything up for the ceremony, and by that time, our little terrorists were awake and swinging.. Callum looks six months old, already. I am doing Saundra’s hair..and Ella and Anna joined us. Anna says “I am so ready for this boy to get here! I can’t see my feet! Everything I eat ends up as a stain on my shirt..or crumbs in my cleavage. Barry says my feet are swollen, but all I know is, they hurt!” I start laughing “Oh My Goddess! You call Baron… Barry? That’s pure Gold!” She pouts at me and grumbles “That’s your takeaway for my little bitchfest here? Not one single, solitary ounce of sympathy? Some sister you are!”

That had me hugging her and telling her I am sorry that her pregnancy is a rough one.. even though I was in the same boat, three short months ago.. and I remember her being distinctly unsympathetic to my plight!

The ceremony was beautiful.. Saundra wore a pale blue chiffon gown with little sequined roses are the hem.. spaghetti straps and a box neckline. Kendrick sliced their palms and they shared blood.. We all felt her bond snap in place. I closed my eyes and visualized her bond.. locating its place in my soul.. it glowed bright blue and had intertwined itself around Jaxson’s lighter blue bond. She was close to me.. and my heart felt her warmth!

We held a pack run to honor our new Beta female. Angelica was so happy to be out that she kept tormenting Brutus. She bounced around him.. nipping his tail, heels and ears. Apparently, he got irritated.. because he took his big old paw and pinned her to the ground, snarling until she submitted. Then, he licked her muzzle all over and cleaned her ears. The run back was a little subdued.. Angel’s feelings were hurt, and she was sulking. Brutus kept turning back to check on her, but she bounded away. She wasn’t ready for his apology! She doesn’t get to run and play.. or even hunt, very often, at all. Kendrick says it’s too dangerous for now. I know he’s right… but it still hurts Angelica!

The music was cranking..everyone was dancing off dinner. I sat with Callum in my lap..and Anna help Calliope. Kendrick asks “Is Angel still upset with Brutus?” I laughed “Yeah.. you want me to say it out loud, when I imagine Brutus is being brutal for you to fix it? She will get over it.. it just takes time. He forgets she is Alpha, too..and to force a submission is humiliating to her. She doesn’t have the freedom to run whenever she wants like he does! He forgets that, too!”

Kendrick smiles softly “I told him all thise same things. After I reamed his ass for exerting dominance over our mate! He has been like this, since your kidnapping…and I’m not sure how to pull him back.” I tell him “I get that.. I do! But he broke Angel’s little carefree heart.. that can’t happen again. She will refuse to run with him, at all. Hopefully, once Ethan is found and dealt with.. he will settle down.”

We tucked our babies in for the night.. just watching them huddle together. They always have to be touching…and I love that! I remember Alex and I always creeping into one another’s bedrooms.. just so we could sleep safe and secure in our twin’s arms. I was still doing it at 15 and 16 years old! And Callum will be that same rock for Calliope.. that Alexander is for me!

We showered…and never listen to anyone who says showering together saves water! Two hours later, we were crawling into bed.. relaxed, happy, and satiated! I turned on the visual monitor beside the bed and set the audio one on Kendrick’s nightstand. We always use them both. I wake, periodically, in the night… just to watch my babies sleeping.

I was awakened around four am.. not sure why.. until I heard little growls and yips, coming from the monitor.. I snatched the monitor, but the camera was off. I heard a yipe and ran.. yelling at Kendrick to get up.. something is wrong!

I slammed into the nursery and see a man standing over the babies’ crib.. trying to grab something… When I reached the crib, I grabbed the man and threw him at the door.. in time for him to bounce off Kendrick’s chest, and hit the floor. Kendrick stomped on his chest and held his foot there. “Check the babies”

Shaking like a leaf, I walked up to the crib. Calliope was sleeping, and, standing over her… with glowing purple eyes.. was a tiny black wolf, bleeding from his little snout. I spoke to his mind 🐺 Cassius, it’s Mommy…your sister is safe now. 🐺 Mommy, he stuck her with a pin!

I reached down and snatched her up.. checking her breathing and heartbeat.. I said “Let Callum come back, Cassius.. your sister is okay.. it was just a sleeping agent” as I healed his nose. Kendrick turned the lights on, just as I picked up a squirming, naked Callum. We will definitely need a conversation with the Goddess! Why does my son have glowing purple eyes??

Kendrick yanks the man off the floor “Well..look who we have here!! You finally made your last mistake! What made you think I would ever let you take one of my loves from me again, Ethan?”

I said “There will be no trial! Either you kill him… or I will. Either way, he doesn’t leave this room alive!” And Kendrick grinned his evil grin.. “With pleasure, my love!” And he snapped Ethan Simmons neck! Our nightmare was over!
