Chapter 17

Liliana sighed, it had been nearly three months since Rob and the others went back to the front line once again, this time to try to pull around and try to gain some ground. She hated when he left. She constantly worried. She sat on her cot trying to calm herself and try to get some sleep. She heard yelling and calling making her furrow her brows before she ran out of her tent as fast as she as the entire camp broke out into an uproar as men limped into the camp several calling out in pain. Liliana ran over looking at several as she ran into Jace looking very worn out as he started to heal another wounded man.

“Jace what happened?” She asked quickly.

“They knew we were coming. They were waiting for us and when we got a little information and they just let loose. I pulled everyone out as fast as I could but this is what we were reduced to this.” Jaxton and Maximus ran over to see what was going on when they heard Jace's explanation. Maximus looked around worried as Jaxton tried to get Jace to sit and relax. Liliana looked as fast as she could as she tried to assess the men as she ran. She glanced over finding Maximus still searching as Christoph was searching another area for Arthur as others spread out to help.

“You find him?” Ryan asked running over to her as she shook her head and the two went off in different directions. “Liliana!” She heard a cry across the yard littered with wounded and exhausted soldiers. Liliana took off running to where Ryan stood stopping and staring as she couldn't believe her eyes. She dropped to her knees looking at the blood as it seeped from the bandaged that covered the pale skin of her husband. Arthur sat trying to heal what he could while Alexander bandaged what he could.

“Rob.” She whispered before moving closer and jumping in her uncle’s spot as the others made their way over. “Come on, don't do this.” She said as tears welled in her eyes. Suddenly there was a cry making everyone look over to Jamie as he started running over only to be caught by Alexander who moved quickly grabbing the boy and pulling him to his chest.

“No! Daddy!” He cried.

“Get him out of here!” Liliana called as she pulled herself up onto her knees taking a deep breath as she sent a shock of power surging through Robert's body trying to heal all his wounds at once. She looked at the large gash that lie across his gut and saw it nearly closed Along with the stab wounds and gashes on his chest and back.

“Looks like that stopped the bleeding at least.” Arthur said as he and Jace started healing.

“You three are going to kill yourselves if you keep pushing like this.” Maximus said trying to get the three to stop.

“No!” Jace yelled as he placed his hand over another wound to heal. “He tried to push them back and save as many of the men as he could...” Jace trailed off as he continued to heal.

“Daddy!” They heard as Jamie ran over only to have Liliana pull him into her arms.

“It’s Alright, it's Alright. Daddy will be Alright.” She said softly holding him tight as Jace and Arthur finished healing what they could before they moved him into the cabin he shared with Liliana while she spoke to Jamie calming him down before she made her way to their tent where she handed Jamie off to her father.

“Looks like All of his wounds are closed and starting to heal on their own.” Arthur said as he stood beside Jace, Ryan and Alexander.

“Thanks guys.” She said softly as she walked over to the head of the bed and looked down at Robert. The four men gave a nod before Arthur left leaving the siblings and the friend Alone.

“I’ll take care of Jamie for now. That way you and Jace can work on Robert.” Ryan said softly before wrapping his arms around her and holding her in a tight hug before leaving to take care of his nephew.

“He’s as good as we can get for now. I'll stop back a little later and check on you.” Jace said with a small smile as he gave her a small hug and left Liliana watching over Robert as Alexander watched sadly. He had not seen his friend so sad ever since they were children. He watched her sit on the edge of the bed and smooth hair out of Robert's face as a tear rolled down her cheek.

“He was really great on the battle field.” Alexander said not really knowing what to say to his friend as she continued to run her hand Along her husband's face “Lily-.”

“I know what he did Alexander. I know there's nothing to worry about, I know that everything will be okay, and I know that he will.... he will be fine.” She said as the tears began to flow freely making Alexander take the two steps and pull her into a tight hug letting her cry into his chest.

“It’s Alright Lily, everything will be Alright.”Alexander said as he held his friend as she cried. After a few minutes, she pulled herself back, drying her tears as she turned back to Robert lying in the bed.

“Thanks Alexander. I better get back to fixing him up.” She gave a small smile as he gave a nod and left her Alone with the unconscious Robert.

Liliana lay on her side of the bed cuddled up against Robert hoping he would wake up. She had been working on healing all of his wounds and trying to get him back to where he should be. Sighing she closed her eyes, it had been three days since he had been brought back and still there was no sign of him waking up. As Liliana began to drift off to sleep, she heard a soft groan. She opened her eyes quickly and leaned up to look down at Robert as his head moved to the side and he slowly opened his eyes to look up at her. Her lips broke into a smile before she leaned down and kissed him.

"I’m so glad you're okay." She smiled making him smirk. "Don’t you ever scare me like that again!" She scolded looking at him hard as he gave a small chuckle.

"I’m sorry; I won’t scare you like that again." He said with a raw throat as he gave a small smile and Liliana settled back down beside him. "How long have I been out?"

"Three days. You weren't looking well when they brought you back. Took me, Uncle and Jace to heal you. You really worried us."

"Mommy?" They heard from the little connection making Liliana sit up with a bright smile.

"Come here, Daddy's awake." The little boy's eyes went wide as he ran over and climbed into the bed as fast as he could and wrapped his little arms around his father as he sat up.

"Daddy, I was so scared." He said as tears began to fall down his cheeks. Robert smiled down and held him close.

"I’m fine now. It’s Alright buddy." He soothed smiling down at his son. "Let’s get some sleep now." The boy held tight and shook his head and held tight making Liliana smile as she took her son from Robert's lap.

"Why don’t you sleep with us tonight?" She smiled and watched Jamie's face brighten as a smile slowly spread across his tiny face as he scooted over to lay between his mother and father as they lay down to sleep for the night.

After weeks of healing, Robert was back to normal. He wandered the camp with Liliana watching his younger sister and his son play with Sylvan. He could not believe he had almost lost all of this. Robert wrapped his arm around Liliana’s waist, pulling her to him as he leaned down giving her a loving kiss. She smiled up at him as she leaned into him. “I love you Ana.” He said softly before she captured his lips again.

“I never get tired of hearing that.” She smiled up at him. “And with that meeting coming up I’d like to hear more of it.”

Robert laughed before he settled his blue eyes on her. “Don’t worry. I’ll always love you and no matter what she tries there’s no way she is ever going to take me from you or Jamie. She thinks she can turn it around and play the innocent victim controlled by the evil all she wants. Just because the other kings and queens felt bad for her and let her back to the council doesn’t mean anything.” Liliana just smiled and leaned back into his embrace as the children continued running around.
