51. Changing Tactics

Jack

“What? Is that even possible?” I asked Doreen in disbelief. “Yes, I looked it up and it has happened before, just like Vic had said to me. It is rare, but not completely out of the ordinary.” She answered.

“But Vic is from a strong line of Alpha bears! How could she team up with a tiger?” I continued my questionnaire. “Well, you are the one that has lived his life long as a shifter, you tell me!” Doreen said with a chuckle and I started to get a migraine.

“I’m not going to allow it!” I said determined and Doreen sighed. “Really? You are not going to allow her to be happy?” She asked me now.

“Well, if you say it like that, you make me sound like a monster. I just don’t want to- “You won’t lose her, she will be here in this pack and you can visit her anytime you want. You can also call her to talk to her in between visits, won’t that be enough?” Doreen interrupted my sentence.

Bertha’s annoying words suddenly went through my mind ‘The things we do for love’ She had said multiple times already, and it couldn’t be any more right this moment. Vic had told Doreen about her new mate and she had decided to stay here, to live her life here.

“Yes, I suppose so, but I just have never been apart from my sister, so this is all really hard to digest.” I said and rubbed the temples of my head. “I know, but you will get through it.” She replied.

“You will make a perfect Queen, you know that right?” I said to Doreen, while grabbing her waist and pulling her towards me. “You know what to say and how to pick your battles. And when you are determined about something, you come with justified comments that could turn around the most angry Alpha on the planet. You will lead us just perfectly.” I said and Doreen started to blush.

“Thank you, but I couldn’t do all those things, if you weren’t by my side.” She said and we kissed deeply. “Besides, I have strong genes! I’m born to command people.” She chuckled and acted on an arrogant walk by placing one foot in front of the other and shaking her shoulders back and forth like she is a supermodel. “You should listen to your Queen!”

“And even with all this power that she possesses, she is still so humble!” I mocked her, at which we both laughed hard as I pulled her back to me. “Come here, my Queen, let me taste you!” I growled pleasurably towards her.

“No, this Queen says that we need to get out of this room, before another day gets wasted by having sex! You need to train me!” She said as she pushed me aside and ran out of the room.

Now I growled unpleased! But she was right… It’s only a few weeks ahead, before every Alpha would join in on our grand meeting and she still needs to get a lot stronger if she wants to prove what she is worth.

“Fine!” I growled and ran after her, trying to fetch her in the hallways.

Doreen

Jack punched me to the gut.

“Shit!”

Jack threw me on the ground.

“Ouch!”

Jack shifted his claw and tried to slash my upper thigh.

“No!”

“Can’t I just fight with my words! They could hurt too!” I shouted towards Jack and he chuckled.

“Yeah, I know you are intelligent, but you have to be strong as well. If I remember correctly, there was once a female Alpha who got dared to fight against five different Alphas and lived to tell the tale. She even took over those packs and declared herself Queen of the North.” Jack told me.

“Yeah, but that was a Lycan and she didn’t have to fight all those Alpha’s at the same time!” I replied and Jack had a shocked expression of me knowing those facts.

“You stick your nose in those damn books too much, sweetheart! Besides, I was not completely wrong about my statement, because this Lycan had to fight off three of those five at the same time.” He snapped me back and I knew he was right, but now I was surprised that he knew the story so well too.

“Well anyway, I don’t have to fight off five Alphas right? I mean, I only have to show them that I am a bear.” I said and Jack waited a while to answer me. “Right?” I asked him again.

“I don’t know love, anything could happen. If they challenge you to see how strong you are, then they are in their right to do so. I’m sorry.” He said. “And you are telling me this now?! Jack seriously! I could maybe handle a Luna or two, but Alphas? You are much stronger than I am!”

“No I’m not, you are just not willing to feel it.”

“What do you mean?”

“When you went berserk, when the fury had taken over, we had to restrain you with at least five men, some of them even had to shift, and you know that we get stronger in shifted form. So, apparently you have the strength within you.” He explained and my jaw dropped. I dropped as well, and hit my ass on the ground.

They had to restrain me with five men? Tigers and leopards? What the… “I didn’t know.” I stuttered.

“I know love, I wish that I didn’t have to see it, as it pains me to think back to how you looked like then, but it is true. You are much stronger than you believe, yet you have to find your own strength from within.”

I punched Jack in the gut.

“Shit!” He shouted.

I pushed Jack backwards with a kick in his stomach.

“Ouch!” He grunted.

I shifted my hands into claws and reached for his upper thigh.

“Nope, not yet!” He chuckled and avoided my swipe with ease.

I was getting better and better, but several days had passed already and I needed to get much stronger than this! I need to be able to beat Jack, without the slack that he was giving me! Vic was training me in the meantime as well, where she used a massive amount of weights, made me run miles on end, as well as the fact that I had to swim in Maxwell’s private pool to build up stamina. By now, I could keep up with training for nearly over an hour without a break, but it was still not enough, should an actual fight happen.

As I was punching bags, I could see Jack talk to Maxwell and they both looked into my direction and nodded to each other. What are they cooking up?

“Sweetheart, Maxwell thinks that you should try to train along with his cats.” Jack suddenly said as he came to me. “But I’m a bear, not a tiger or a leopard, how could that benefit me?” I asked them both now, as also Maxwell came near.

“Because you are small and thin, I know that your necklace has prevented you to grow bigger and taller, but you are just as thin as the young adult I have to train in my pride. And I think that you might be more fit to become agile and fast, instead of bulky and strong.” He explained and I had to think about that for a minute.

“But could I still be able to beat Jack with it?” I asked him. “Yeah I believe so, because eventually you are still a bear, so you should be stronger than my cats. But I think with your build, it could suit you more to focus your training on speed and flexibility.” He elaborated and I started to remember something that I have experienced before.

When I didn’t know that Dennis was running after me as a bear, I had managed to run through the forest and beat him to arrive first at Jack’s truck. And when I was fighting Jack with that small sword, I was feeling really enthused to finally be able to do something during that ‘date’. So I think that Maxwell could be on to something.

“Alright, let’s give it a shot.” I said and Maxwell smiled. “Good, training starts at four, tomorrow morning.” He said and I gasped.

“At four?”

“Yep, so get to bed early.” He smiled and walked away.

Jack chuckled at my facial expression, as he knew that I hated it to get up so early. But even so, I wasn’t going to back down on my words. I’m going to give it my best shot, as the training I had been getting now, wasn’t improving me as much as it should.

I asked Jack if he was alright with it, but he just shrugged and told me that it was more important for me to get more secure with my own skills, than that I was going to be bound back to the fact that I should act like a bear. It worried me a little, that he said it so bluntly, as I was really liking the way I felt now. I could eat much more than I had before, I loved to cuddle up with Jack and feel my way through his fur when he shifted into his bear, and it also aroused me a lot to hear him growl in pleasure during sex. I loved every aspect of a bear and being one made me complete. So, was I doing the right thing, by getting trained by the cats?

I don’t know if it is, but I do know that I should try something different. If I want to be able to defeat any Alpha, I have to change tactics, should they want to challenge me.
