Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 258

Lies can be good or bad, and Izabella didn't think the lie Brett made up was a good one.

She gave a shallow smile, but the smile didn't reach her eyes, which were desolate deep inside. She smiled, but it looked even uglier than when she cried.

"So you love me so much you want to turn me into an idiot?" Izabella's eyes were filled with tears. "You're so afraid of me regaining my memory, how can I not mind the past?"

She shook her head and staggered back step by step. The man in front of her seemed to have lost all humanity; he was like a demon that crawled out from hell.

"I just want to ask one last question: who is Ryker?"

Hearing this name, Brett panicked. The thing he was most afraid of was getting closer and closer, and he had nowhere to retreat.

Seeing Brett's flustered face, Izabella seemed to understand something. The corners of her mouth raised in a sardonic sneer. "Is he dead?"

No one answered, which was as good as admitting it.

"He must have been important to me. Otherwise, why would I dream of him all the time?" Izabella muttered with a hoarse voice. Instinctively, she felt Ryker was more important than Brett, just thinking about the name hurt her so much she could hardly breathe. It felt like there was no air in her lungs, only thousands of needles piercing her flesh.

"He's dead, but he said he would carry me home once."

Izabella's eyes watered, and tears flowed uncontrollably. "Brett, you must know who Ryker is, tell me everything about him, please." For the first time since losing her memory, Izabella begged him. And it was for another man.

He was jealous, angry, and heartbroken. He couldn't understand why, after all these years, Ryker still lingered in Izabella's heart.

All he did was save her once and carry her home more than ten years ago. If it were him, he could have done that too.

They had been married for years, known each other for eight, yet he couldn't compare to a dead man.

Brett took a deep breath. "I won't tell you who he is. You'll never remember him in this life."

The last spark of hope in Izabella's heart was extinguished by his words, and she was plunged into utter darkness. "Brett, you really make me sick!"

"I know." Brett said in agony. He always had known.

Izabella looked at him with the same hatred, pain, helplessness, and silence as before she lost her memory.

He didn't know what to do with her, nor how they would go on. The four months of them together seemed like a dream, and they couldn't go back now. Izabella's heart felt like it was hit by something heavy, and it kept contracting. She clutched her chest, but then her stomach started to hurt too.

All she could do was painfully bending over, Ryker's voice from her dream echoing in her head.

"Don't like Brett; he's not worth it."

Izabella covered her mouth abruptly and retched. In the end, she couldn't help but throw up, the food from lunch mixed with blood.

Her lips turned a pale purple, the streaks of blood on them looking like lip gloss. Her face looked even paler.

She couldn't control her body as it fell back, the world spinning around her.

"Izabella!" She was caught by warm arms, but she couldn't see anything, only feeling the unbearable pain and discomfort.

Stevenson hurried over when he saw Izabella suddenly vomiting blood and fainting. Her pale face looked like she was struggling for breath, which immediately alarmed him. "Get her to the hospital quickly."

On the way, Stevenson asked Brett, "What do we do now? She already knows."

"Can she be hypnotized again?" Brett tightly held Izabella, as if holding a fragile and precious item, afraid that it might break.

Shaking his head with difficulty, Stevenson said, "She knows about the hypnosis. It won't work."

"What about drugs?"

"Do you really want her to become a fool?"

"I don't want her to be stupid, but I don't want her to leave me even more!" Brett was like a trapped animal, struggling uselessly.

Stevenson frowned at him and spoke after a moment of silence, "Sometimes I don't understand how you think. You say you don't want Izabella to leave you, but you've turned her into a soulless shell. Is she still herself like that? Think about it, can you really face an Izabella who's like a fool?"

Brett's heart was twisted like a knife, trembling as he held Izabella's hand. "Then what should I do? What should I do? You tell me what I should do?" He repeated this sentence, his voice choked with tears. Stevenson frowned at him and finally spoke, "Only you know what to do. I don't want you to regret it. All I know is that if you truly love someone, you shouldn't obsessively bind them like you do." Brett felt a knife twisting in his heart, tears streaming down his face. "What should I do? What should I do? Tell me what to do?"

He repeated the question, choking on his words. Stevenson looked at the tears on his face and pursed his lips.

"Only you know what to do. I just don't want you to regret it. I only know that if you truly love someone, you shouldn't try to bind them in such a morbid way."

Having fainted once again, Izabella vomiting blood wasn't a good sign. Stevenson felt a throbbing pain between his eyebrows.

At the hospital, after a series of tests, they received shocking news.

Izabella was already four weeks pregnant.
