Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 252

Izabella's got something on her mind, and originally she was planning to leave work with Brett and head home together. But now, she wanted to make a detour to the hospital for a thorough checkup of her

body.

"I wanna head home first, is that cool?"

"Why? I thought we agreed to go home together after work?"

"I'm so bored here, and kinda sleepy. Plus, watching you work's not as fun as hanging out with Niki back home."

Really living lower than a cat, Brett grabbed her hand that was on his temple and said, "There's a resting area in the back, you can sleep there. It's quiet, and no one will bother you. I'll wake you up when I'm of work."

"I've got a thing about not being able to sleep in new places. I just can't."

"You sure you wanna go home?"

Izabella nodded.

She was insisting, so Brett didn't want to force her to stay. "I'll get a driver to take you home."

"No need, I'll just call a cab at the corner with my phone." Izabella leaned on Brett's shoulder, speaking softly and sweetly just like their cat at home.

She grabbed her bag, and although she looked calm, the hurried way she moved gave her away. She left in such a rush that she even forgot the food box. Brett's eyes darken as he watched her leave. Not long after, he spotted Izabella heading not towards their home, but in the direction of a nearby hospital. Why was Izabella going to the hospital? Was she feeling unwell? Or had she remembered or found out something?

In any case, her destination didn't seem to be a good omen. Brett immediately ordered someone to follow her.

He had a tracker installed on her phone a while back, worried about her wandering off. As long as she kept the phone with her, he would know where she's headed. Izabella quickly exited the building and hailed a taxi without noticing someone's following her.

Luckily, there weren't many people queuing for a doctor at this time, she mostly wanted to check her stomach and brain without any trouble.

She went for a brain scan but didn't expect the high cost. She had got Brett's card to pay, but it weighed on her conscience.

A specialist examined her, only to tell her she'd be notified when the results were available.

On the other side of town, at the Windham Group's Presidential office, the worried Brett ordered a fake report made and given to Izabella.

Back home, they both acted normal, but Izabella's unease was evident. After dinner, she took her pills but didn't eat anything else.

The next day, Izabella sneaked out to the hospital again for her GI endoscopy. She almost threw up her stomach, petrified. The doctor assured her it was painless, but she was still scared.

And indeed, it was very painful. It was like there was a hand pulling and squeezing her stomach. The vomiting and blood made her think she'd done this before, but she figured it was not surprising since she'd had stomach troubles in the past.

The doctor told her to rest and that they would notify her when her report was ready.

Izabella clutched her stomach and walked out, hearing the doctor calling the next person's name. She sat in the waiting area, checking her phone, while the noisy chatter around her reached her ears.

All kinds of expressions were on the faces of people around her: some wailed hysterically after getting devastating diagnoses, while others called to assure their loved ones or expressed regret.

In and out of the hospital were patients with all sorts of facial expressions. It was a place of life and death, where sadness and joy coexisted.

"Izabella, come in and grab your test results."
