Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 244

This little kitten was only as big as her two hands, like a round ball of fur. Izabella carefully held the kitten, bringing her face down to give it a kiss.

Having such a cute kitten made the quiet villa lively. Even the always serious butler showed more smiles, his eyes warm as he looked at the kitten in Izabella's hands. The servants hurried to bring out a litter box, toys, and other supplies. "Ma'am, it keeps meowing. Is it hungry?"

Izabella gently touched the kitten's belly, then glanced at the floor, spotting a bag of milk powder.

"It must be. Tiara, check the instructions on that milk powder and prepare half a cup for the kitten."

Tiara happily read the instructions and went to mix the milk powder with a pet bottle.

Izabella sat on the sofa and put the kitten on her lap to feed it. The moment the kitten smelled the milk, it pounced on the bottle, not letting go and gulping down the liquid. Milk covered the kitten's pink mouth, its fur all wet. Tiara quickly brought a small blanket to put on Izabella's lap.

"Does it have a name?"

"Yes."

"What is it?"

Izabella finished feeding the kitten and played with it using a fish toy. "Niki."

"Nice name," Tiara agreed.

The kitten curiously stared at the fish toy and tried to grab it with its front paw. Izabella, worried it might fall off her lap, placed it on the carpet and continued to play with it.

After eating, the overfed kitten's belly was round and it was even more unstable on its legs. It barely caught the toy when it lost balance and fell on the carpet, showing its round belly. Now that she had a kitten, Izabella had something to do in her free time, playing with it.

The kitten loved to nap, especially on warm days. Izabella would hold it while sitting on the rocking chair on the balcony, stroking it while reading a book.

Her phone vibrated next to her. Izabella picked it up with one hand and unlocked it. It was a text from Brett, asking, "Did you receive it?"

Izabella smiled and sent him a photo of her holding the kitten, also asking about his injuries, "How's your wound?"

He replied quickly, "Much better. Will you apply the medicine for me tonight?"

Holding her phone, Izabella replied, "For the sake of the kitten you sent me, I'll apply the medicine tonight."

With a contented smile, Izabella cuddled up with Niki in bed for a nap.

Brett returned early in the afternoon. After dinner, the two of them took the kitten for a walk.

Seeing the kitten snuggled comfortably in Izabella's arms with its eyes closed, Brett couldn't help feeling jealous.

Noticing Brett's stare, Izabella thought he was envious of the kitten in her arms, so she brought it closer to his face. "Do you want to hold it?"

Brett had never liked these furry creatures. He instinctively stepped back, glancing at the kitten's big blue eyes, then at Izabella's equally clear and bright cat-like eyes. He wanted to hold her more than the cat. "Pet it. I can't believe you don't like such a cute little creature." Izabella was over the moon, careful not to hurt the little kitten.

Brett hesitantly put his hand on the kitten's head, finding it not as annoying as he had imagined.

"Do you want to hold it for a while?"

"No, thanks."

Brett watched Izabella withdraw her hand and lean back towards the kitten. Her loose top revealed a bit of her pinkish-white neck. Due to her smiling expression, her jawline curved beautifully. Brett's mouth went dry like sandpaper, wishing he could just carry the woman in front of him back to their room.

Izabella really loved the cat, taking it everywhere with her, even putting it in her bed when sleeping.

After taking a shower, Brett saw the kitten occupying his pillow. His face twitched slightly.

"Stop focusing on the cat and go take a bath. I've already prepared the hot water."

Reluctantly, Izabella put the kitten down, grabbed her pajamas, and went to shower. As she was undressing, Brett squeezed in.

Hugging Izabella, he sniffed her like a dog. Her neck was sensitive, and his warm breath tickled her.

"Did you smell something?"

"It smells like cat. You should hurry and wash it off." In fact, it was a faint milk scent, not unpleasant. Brett just had a cleanliness obsession, so he took the cat to Tiara and exchanged the bedsheets and quilt. Izabella didn't bother asking about the cat after her shower but smiled when she saw the clean sheets and quilt.

Brett really was a clean freak.

Fetching the first aid kit, Brett took off his shirt and let Izabella apply the medicine.

Compared to yesterday, although it hurt less, the injury looked more severe. A large, deep purple bruise spread like a stain.

Izabella quickly finished applying the medicine and patted his shoulder. "Done, let's sleep."

Brett didn't forget to fetch the medicine for Izabella. Frowning at the white pill, she asked, "I don't want to restore my memory anymore. Can I not take the medicine?"

"You don't want to restore your memory?"

Izabella paused and explained, "It's not that, I'm just not as eager as before." She knew Brett hadn't treated her as well as she thought in the past.

As for the specifics, she wasn't curious or interested in figuring it out.

"Can I not take it?" She could bear the handful of pills she took during the day but not the small one at night.

Taking the pill would make her have nightmares, her chest tight, and her mind not so sharp. Her memory was getting worse, sometimes forgetting what she was doing halfway through combing her hair when looking at her phone.

Of course, she didn't blame the worsening memory on the pill but simply didn't want to have nightmares anymore.

Brett disagreed, determined to make her take the pill no matter how much she pouted or got angry. Frowning, Izabella took the medicine.

"I'm doing this for your own good," Brett said sincerely, "This medicine isn't for restoring your memory. You bumped your head in a car accident, slept for three months, and your mental state is pretty bad. You can only recover by taking this medicine slowly." He calmly lied.

"I feel even worse after taking the medicine," grumbled Izabella, lying in bed, turning on the TV randomly and not caring to pay attention to Brett.

It seemed like Izabella was really pissed off about being forced to take the medicine.

Brett tightly gripped the medicine bottle, feeling very nervous. Even though Izabella repeatedly emphasized that she didn't care about the past and just wanted to let it go, he didn't dare take any risks.

There were too many entanglements between them, one issue piled on top of another, creating an insurmountable gap between them.

If Izabella were to remember everything from the past, knowing that he was responsible for her family's demise, her miscarriage, using her to trade for Kaley, and her finger disability and memory loss, would she still stay with him?

Izabella had said before that she wasn't stupid and couldn't pretend that nothing had happened and forgive him.

Moreover, he had hurt Izabella countless times, so many times that he couldn't even keep track, and he couldn't even forgive himself.

The TV was still on in the bedroom as Brett got lost in thought. By the time he snapped out of it, Izabella had already fallen asleep leaning on his shoulder.

He gently turned off the TV, held Izabella, and greedily kissed her soft hair.

The next day was a weekend, and Brett didn't have to work, so he lazily cuddled with Izabella and had a lie-in.

After the alarm had gone off three times at different intervals, he finally got up.
