Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 180

Izabella's chin was almost dislocated and tears uncontrollably rolled down her cheeks as she squinted her eyes.

Brett frowned and loosened his grip on her. "Why are you crying? If you want to kill me, you're that scared just because I asked? If you're so afraid, why are you plotting against me?" Izabella collapsed on the bed, unable to control herself. She hated her own incompetence for not being able to kill the person who hurt her.

When Izabella cried, there was no sound. When she cried too hard, she would choke, and it was difficult to listen to.

Brett pried open Izabella's clenched hands and tucked her into the blanket.

Izabella kept crying, the recent events were like a nightmare to her.

Brett's heart ached, and he grabbed a tissue to carefully wipe her face.

She was as timid as a cat, daring to choke people but not admitting it. He said he wouldn't blame her, but she still cried.

Her face was deathly pale, making her eyes look even more red. Brett lifted her chin and gently kissed her lip, a quick, gentle move without any hint of ambiguity, as though it was a simple comfort.

"Izabella, do you really hate me that much?" Brett asked with a bitter smile. "You hate me so much that you get up in the middle of the night trying to strangle me. Do you really think you could kill someone with that kind of strength? You're the epitome of naive and foolish."

Izabella looked at Brett, her mouth opening slightly. It felt like her throat was stuffed with cotton, unable to swallow or spit out.

Although she didn't say a word, her eyes contained immense hatred. Brett knew better than anyone how much Izabella hated him.

It seemed like her eyes were filled with not tears but blood-thirsty intent.

The fierce gaze was as if she wanted nothing more than to kill him.

Brett's heart ached slightly, and he covered Izabella's eyes, hiding the hatred in them.

"Izabella, would you have married me if it wasn't for sixteen years ago?" Brett finally asked the question he had always wanted to ask.

Izabella's body stiffened, unable to see Brett's anxious expression with her eyes covered.

It took a long time before she murmured, "No, if I had a choice, I wouldn't even want to meet you."

If she had met him six years instead of sixteen years earlier, the boy who had saved her would have remained a blurred memory in her heart, instead of becoming a devil that dragged her into this abyss. With Brett's warm palm on her forehead, Izabella said, "Brett, you asked if I hate you. Yes, I do. I hate you as much as I used to love you. I wish I could strangle you, skin you alive, feast on your flesh and blood, then open your chest to see what your heart is made of!"

A tear silently slid down her cheek, dampening the man's palm.

Choking up, Izabella asked, "Why did you change? You were never like this initially."

"I hate that you destroyed my pride and self-esteem, robbed me of everything, and got rid of the Brett from sixteen years ago who saved me."

Listening to Izabella's words, Brett felt suffocated as if a hand was crushing his heart. It wasn't him who had changed, but rather, the person from sixteen years ago was never him.

From the beginning, their relationship was a mistake. Izabella hated him, and he did too.

Izabella, why is your love for me based on another person?
