Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 140

Under the clear sky and bright sun, the sunlight was blocked by the thick curtains, and only a slight glow seeped in through the crevices. In the half dark room, Izabella woke up, feeling sour pain all over her body. She sat up and gradually got used to the pain before standing up and walking to her wardrobe. Opening the cabinet, she took out a set of professional clothes. As she was putting them on, she suddenly saw a box of medicine in the trash can.

Picking it up, she recognized it as the medicine she had taken last night. She remembered putting it back in her drawer.

Now it was in the trash can, obviously thrown away by Brett.

Izabella gripped the medicine box, biting her lower lip so hard that it hurt. She remembered the nightmare from last night, and Brett's gaze in the shadows, which made her feel terrified.

A chill ran from the soles of her feet to her palms, and she squatted on the floor trembling with fear.

She was afraid that the nightmare would come true, knowing so well what kind of person Brett was. He was heartless and had no feelings for her; it was all about possession.

It was like holding a kite in his hand, loosening and tightening his grip, making her fly high but unable to escape his control. She was desperately struggling, while Brett was just playing along.

For the power-hungry Brett, it wasn't about his love for her; it was about asserting his control. So a child was just a tool for him to control her, and he didn't care about who would raise it, what the future would be like, or any potential problems that might arise.

She was really scared, truly scared.

Izabella recalled a movie she had seen, where a woman was kidnapped and sold to the mountains. At first, she wanted to escape, but she was locked up and forced to become pregnant, eventually giving up on the idea of escape.

So sometimes mental imprisonment was even more terrifying than physical ones. Once resigned to her fate, it was almost impossible to escape.

She was afraid of becoming the woman in that movie, of being powerless to resist Brett. In her nightmare, she was locked up at home, helplessly watching her belly grow bigger day by day.

Her phone alarm suddenly went off, which interrupting her thoughts. Izabella turned it off. She plucked the medicine out of the box and put it in the bottle containing the vitamins.

She wanted to shake off the image of having a child in her head, but the more she tried, the clearer it became.

At breakfast, Jennifer made soft-boiled eggs. Izabella found them easy to swallow, but when she poked the surface and the yolk poured out, her body suddenly reacted violently. She covered her mouth and ran to the bathroom to vomit.

She tried to hide the blood in her vomit, rinsing the toilet as she threw up.

Jennifer, however, misunderstood Izabella and thought she was throwing up because of pregnancy.

Standing outside the bathroom door, she listened to the sounds inside and began to worry. She poured a cup of warm water for Izabella to drink when she came out.

"Ms. Salotti, drink some water to feel better."

Izabella was a bit weak after vomiting, and her hands were trembling. She took the cup and rinsed her mouth to get rid of the disgusting taste before saying "Thanks" in a hoarse voice.

Jennifer asked her, "Ms. Salotti, do you have some good news?"

Izabella frowned, not understanding the meaning behind her words. "What good news?"

Jennifer whispered, "You know, being pregnant."

"I'm not pregnant."

"Then why are you vomiting so badly? Is it your stomach acting up?" Jennifer looked at Izabella's pale face. "This won't do. I must call Dr. James."

Jennifer was anxious, partly because she was really worried about Izabella, and partly because she was afraid Brett would come back and ask her about it, and she immediately took out her phone. Izabella reached out and held her hand down "No need to call, I have stomach medicine."

"But..."

Izabella said "I'm really fine, it's just an old problem, just take some medicine and I'll be fine, just don't tell Brett."

"Why don't you tell him?" Jennifer didn't understand, it was the first time she had seen a couple in this mode, if it was so hard, why didn't she tell her husband? Wouldn't she want to be cared for? Wouldn't she want to be loved?

"Just don't want him to worry." Izabella blurted out a lie, "You'll know when you get married."

Jennifer thought, that she didn't want to fall in love at all, that she still had a great youth, that she didn't want to enter the grave of marriage early.
