Twisted Ties of Love
Chapter 122

Izabella didn't say anything, she didn't even want to look in Brett's direction.

"Izabella, didn't you beg me to accompany you to all kinds of places in the past?"

"You said, that was in the past."

In the past, Izabella was head over heels for Brett. She thought marrying him was like hitting the jackpot and wanted to show him off at every opportunity.

When Izabella said that, she thought Brett would get angry. To her surprise, he stared at her with an indescribable look and suddenly smiled gently, "There's a bidding event next week, go with me."

He firmly ordered, directly suppressing her resistance through his actions.

Izabella glanced sideways at Brett, seeing a hint of ruthlessness in his eyes.

After getting out of the car, Brett tightly held Izabella's hand, smiled appropriately, and he seemed much more gentle and approachable in the sunshine.

Izabella struggled a couple of times but couldn't get away, what she didn't know was that from an outsider's perspective, the two seemed like a loving couple having a small fight.

Although Izabella tried concealing her true purpose to come here, Brett was sure she had something she was hiding from him.

Upon hearing the car park, the head of the orphanage rushed out to see who it was. Seeing it was Izabella, she quickly called over the children from the orphanage.

A bunch of children quickly surrounded them, politely calling "Izabella."

"I brought some cake for you guys. You can take it and share it." She had bought plenty so everyone could have enough to eat.

The children were too shy to take it, so the head of the orphanage took it and divided it among them.

The head of the orphanage looked at the man next to Izabella, realizing that the two of them must have a significant relationship since they were carrying such large bags and holding hands. "Ms. Salotti, this gentleman...?" the head asked tentatively.

With a gentle smile on his face, Brett stood next to Izabella like a loving husband. "I'm her husband."

"Hello, and welcome."

Brett looked at the woman in her forties in front of him, satisfied. At first, he thought the head would be a young man.

Now there was nothing for him to worry about, after all, what harm could a woman and a group of children cause him?

Izabella squatted down to distribute the cake from the bag while sneaking glances at her surroundings, but she didn't see Ryker.

Although Brett had put on his nice face, his natural deterrent made it difficult for people to approach him, he seemed out of place in front of the children.

The head of the orphanage glanced at Brett several times, seeing that his eyes were closely following Izabella.

It seemed that the rumor was wrong, saying that Brett didn't love Izabella and that their relationship was strained, she didn't think so after meeting them today.

If Brett didn't love Izabella, why would he keep staring at her?

The head shook her head secretly, thinking that Ryker would be quite upset seeing this scene, after all, he had been waiting for Izabella restlessly for more than a month.

Some children were playing in the yard and hadn't come over, so the rest of the cakes would be distributed at lunchtime.

"Mr. Windham, have you eaten?"

It wasn't quite ten o'clock, so she was asking about breakfast. Brett replied coldly, "We ate before coming here."

"It'll be lunchtime soon, I'll start preparing the meal. You and Ms. Salotti should stay here and eat with us today."

Brett frowned. He wasn't used to dealing with children and he didn't even like them that much, but if it were children he and Izabella had together, he probably wouldn't dislike them. Brett wanted to refuse but when he saw Izabella bent down to listen to the children's words, he swallowed down his refusal.

"We'll see."

This seemed like an agreement, right? It was the head's first time dealing with Brett, and although she understood children's minds, she couldn't figure out his thoughts.

Ryker was the cook at the orphanage, and the head paid him salary every month.

Brett initially thought there were no other men here, but as soon as he entered the hall, he saw Ryker wearing an apron.

He furrowed his eyebrows, eyes filled with caution. He suspected that Izabella had something to do with this man and felt threatened for the first time.

Ryker spotted Izabella in the crowd and was overjoyed, yelling, "Bella!"

Hearing this nickname, Brett frowned. It was so intimate, even he hadn't called Izabella like that.

Izabella watched as Ryker ran towards her, he seemed thinner than before, but he looked energetic, and his hair was slightly longer. He looked like a big, happy dog when he ran, his eyes sparkling like stars. "You're finally here."

Izabella felt a cold chill on her back, she knew without looking that it was Brett staring at her.

She nodded, took a piece of cake from the bag, and handed it to Ryker.

Brett's gaze followed Izabella's hand to the cake. She even gave him cake.

"Who's that guy?" He asked.

The head of the orphanage sensed that he might have misunderstood something and quickly explained. "That's Ryker, he's an orphan too. He grew up in the orphanage since he was a child. When he was brought here, he had a head injury and his intelligence stayed at the age of eight. He's twenty-six now, but he couldn't live in society because of his low IQ, so he stayed at the orphanage to cook."
