To Be Yours Again novel (Jenny and Alex)
Chapter 1269 In Just A Few Months

As his father, Old Mr. Faust knew what Mortimer was like very well. If he stayed by Alfred's side forever, he would ruin the young man's life.

On top of that, Mortimer was his son. No matter how unpleasant their shared history was, at this age, Old Mr. Faust had let go of many things and no longer wished to care about all that. "Do you want him to come back?" Jenny was surprised. She thought that Old Mr. Faust still held a grudge against Mortimer.

He sighed, "He's my son, after all. There's nothing wrong in letting him take care of me. And with him under my watch, he won't cause trouble for you."

"Alright. We'll tell him what you said once we're back in Bardoff City. I won't guarantee whether he'll want to come back." Mortimer might actually refuse to return.

Old Mr. Faust didn't mind. "Don't worry. He'll come."

After all that they had been through, Mortimer was still the same. Old Mr. Faust didn't want to care about him anymore.

They talked in the living room while Alec cut up the vegetables in the kitchen.

"You can rest, Mr. Alec. Let the cooks handle it." Warren stood next to him, unsure of what to do..

The cooks had begun their preparations early for Alec and Jenny's arrival. The food was almost ready, but Alec insisted on making one himself.

"It's fine. I'll just make one really quickly." Alec wanted to let his grandfather have a taste of his cooking. While he chopped, he asked Warren, "How is Grandpa holding up lately?"

"The doctor says it's not looking good." At the mention of his health, Warren grew solemn. "He exhausted himself when he was younger. No matter how much he rests now, he can't recuperate."

Alec paused his movements. His eyes dimmed. "How long does he have left?"

"That's hard to tell. The doctor says that in the worst-case scenario, he has a few months left. And at most, he has three to five years left," Warren replied honestly. "If you're free, you should come back often to see him. He says he doesn't care, but he really wants you to come back."

"Alright." Alec nodded. Sadness surged in his heart. "It must be hard taking care of him."

"Don't say that, Mr. Alec. In my eyes, Mr. Faust is my family. I'm happy to help." Warren had been in the household for a few decades now. He was already used to it.

Alec said nothing else and began cooking. Soon, he took the dishes out of the kitchen. The maids helped out as well.

"Grandpa, Jenny, it's time to eat," Alec said.

At the sound of his voice, they stopped talking. Jenny held Old Mr. Faust as he got up from the couch and walked toward the dining table.

It was then that Jenny realized how frail he truly was. He couldn't walk without teetering slightly, and if no one helped him, it would be hard for him to walk.

For some reason, she thought back to when she first met him. Old Mr. Faust had been full of life then, and there had been nothing wrong with his feet.

How long had it been since? Why was he so weak now?

What she didn't know was that Old Mr. Faust had forced himself to push through. It wasn't that he was tired. Alec had only just inherited the Fausts then. How could Old Mr. Faust back him up if he was weak? Later on, when he saw how strong Alec had become and had Jenny by his side, he felt at ease. The moment he relaxed, his strength left him, and he grew weak.
