Thirsty for him
1. So thristy I could die

After years of slumbering and waiting for the curse to take effect, I had never thought or prepared for it to happen so soon. After being cursed on my sixteenth birthday, I had been waiting to see what my life would be like now that I had finally been accepted into the family. Little did I know that it was terrible to live with a curse that had slept to this day. How could I have prepared for this to happen? The worst part of the curse is the waiting and hoping that you are not so far gone that they would have to kill you.

My Dad, Mom, and my sister treated me better, but still left me in the dark about what would happen. They said it was something I had to figure out by myself. It would give me more pleasure, or something. Whatever that meant, we’ll see. On the day of my eighteenth birthday, they were more excited than I was. I don’t know exactly why, but they acted weird, more than they otherwise did. Mother baked me cake again and cooked Diana’s favorite food again. The tension at the dinner table was in the air.

We ate and did what we always do. Dad went to work, Mom cleaned the kitchen and Diana went out. When I arrive in my bedroom, all I find is a card from my best friend Daisy. With a time and location on it where I need to be tomorrow. She made it sound so suspicious that I did have to find out, what she had done.

Daisy is my best friend from school, who loves to party a lot. I was more of a misfit, as I had been all my life. Okay, I was accepted into school because of Daisy. Not because I like the other girls and boys so much. If they didn’t like me, they might as well drop dead. That was what they liked about me, my big mouth. If only they knew I meant everything I said, and the words I said weren’t very nice.

I lay on my bed and sent some messages to Daisy about the birthday card I found in my bedroom. She wouldn’t even know what I was talking about, so to speak. I smile, put the phone down next to me, and fall asleep exhausted, with thoughts in my head of what Daisy may have done next.

When I wake up, my mom is standing in the hall calling for me and my sister to come in for breakfast. I rub the sleep out of my eyes and at that moment it hits me. My throat hurts so bad it feels like sandpaper.

I run to my bathroom and hang my head under the faucet in the sink, letting all the water in my mouth flow to my stomach. When I return from the sink, the burning sensation in my throat is still painfully present. Nothing I’ve tried has helped. In pain, I run downstairs to my mother. I see her standing at the kitchen counter preparing some plates for us. With my hoarse voice I tried to speak, “thirsty,” was all that came out of my throat. My mother looked at me proudly, which I found strange. She reached out and handed me a white, cloudy drink. I was so thirsty that I didn’t care what I drank. “It will last, just a little while,” she said as she left me in the kitchen with only the glass left in my hand.

I set the glass on the counter and began to eat my breakfast. With a little less pain in my throat, I tried to eat the eggs and bread sitting on the table in front of me. “The process has begun, Rick,” my mother said to my father, but when I looked at her, she didn’t explain anything about this so-called process. “Great, she’s almost done,” my father replied as he ate his breakfast and left as quickly as he had entered the room.

Back in my room, I tried to concentrate on the school papers that were on the desk in front of me. But the aching feeling in my throat made it clear that I couldn’t do more than try to sleep and hope that things would get better later.

When I woke up, it was already 8 p.m. Then the pain in my throat hit me again, feeling thirsty as hell. All didn't I had time for self-pity when I noticed that I had to go to the location that Daisy had sent. Daisy would hate me if I didn’t go, even though she denies it wasn’t her.

I walk to the location, trying to ignore the pain in my throat. At the location, I see a sort of student house where it does look very quiet, too quiet. As I come closer, I hear little voices, knowing it isn't abandoned. That is some kind of relief. Then, when I opened the door, “Surprise!” I look at everyone who starts singing to me, with my cheeks so red I must look like I have a fever. I thought she planned something, but not a surprise party. Daisy comes my way at the door where I stood frozen in surprise and hugs me. “Happy birthday girl!” She screams over the loud voices that now overcrowd the house. Music starts to play as Daisy takes my hand and drags me to some guys. There she gave me a red cup with a liquid that made me almost puke. When the loud voices kept on going inside my head and the pain in my throat I had a hard time to breath. I was even happy when she said a couple of moments later she was going to some guy's house for the night. It was who she was, I ignored the fact that she could go with a psychopath just because my head was so spinning I had to go outside. “See you later,” I said almost in a whisper. She just got away, and I ran outside the house, to take a breath.

Outside the house, I almost jumped in the pool just to lessen the thirst that was giving me severe pain. Then before I jumped in the pool, something happened that I could not figure out at that moment.

My eyes scan the garden, where my eyes lock with the most beautiful boy I’ve ever seen. His yellow eyes take me into my whole body. Like he is the one who can save me from starving at severe thirst. I try to get closer to him, to look even closer at his eyes. Now I noticed some spots in it and still, I ain't that close to having seen it so good. It's freaky and weird because my sight is better than it ever was before. I had no problems before with my sight, but not as good as it is now. Why do I even wonder or figure out how this happens?

When I finally managed to find a way to him by zigzagging among the people in the backyard. I am now standing in front of him and amazed at how extraordinarily beautiful he is. At this point, the thirst started to get even worse. Almost that worse that I could die of dehydration, that’s how thirsty I was.

He comes closer to me, and suddenly I feel normal again. It felt like he gave me the water that I needed so badly. He made me feel hydrated after a long time of no rain.

I take a step closer to him, pressing my body against his. Taking in all his features, he has light blond hair that in the dark seems more yellow than blond, though in the moonlight it seems more white.

Then I got again distracted by his yellow eyes, in which I can count now the blue flecks. That’s not an ordinary color you see every day. At least not one I had already encountered.

He stares back at me at my black hair which is the opposite of his light blond hair. We looked like two people who had known each other for years but hadn’t seen each other yet. He grabs my hand and the pain is gone, finally, the pain in my throat is gone, but how?

“Do I know you?” He asked in a raspy voice. I wanted to grab his arms and pull myself into his strong arms again. It was like a passion I felt for him but couldn’t explain. As I began to rub against him, with our eyes still locked in each other’s. He looked at me as if the pleasure hurt him, “Who are you?” He asks me in that same raspy voice, with a look like I’m some kind of candy he wants to bite into. “Avery, and you are?” I ask in an unsteady voice, feeling like I could eat him. “Varnic,” he says. He steps closer to me and stares into my blue eyes, suddenly pressing his lips on mine. And for the first time today, I felt liberated. He healed me, he healed my thirst.

He let me taste his lips, and it felt great, it felt like I just drank a glass of cold water. After he released my lips, the feeling was gone. He just disappeared into thin air. It felt like some kind of dream, but how could a dream make me feel this way? How could he make me feel like he had saved me from dehydration?

Daisy found me not much later still with my lips between my fingers, trying to hold on to the feeling he had just given me. The thirst was gone, but still, there was a feeling that I needed more from him. “He is an ass!” she screamed, dragging me out of my state of mind. “What happened?” I ask her, worried, now I have no longer the pain consuming me.

“Not something you have to worry about tonight,” She said, finding me still touching my lips. “What happened to you is what I am more interested in?” She asked, looking still at my fingers on my lips. Rapidly, I take them off my lips, still smiling with the feeling he gave me. “Something great, I kissed for the first time,” I said, all could not figure out where he was. “Who did you kiss,” She asked, wandering around the garden with her eyes. “Some guy called Varnic,” I said to her, which made her look like I was drunk. “Did you drink too much, Avery? There isn't a guy on campus called Varnic,” she said, thinking I was delusional. Could she really know every boy on campus?

“Daisy, don't tell me you know every guy on campus.” She laughed and nodded like she knew every guy. “Avery I must tell you something. I know it sounds silly, but the name Varnic is a common name in the horror stories of our town,” she said with her eyes around us, looking that no one could hear us. “Where are you talking about which story?” she sighs as she speaks up, “The story about the family Elys and what happened to them. This is where the name Varnic comes from. Varnic Elys died just like his whole family that day in the house at the wood.” My heart raced with the thought of a ghost who was haunting me. It's like a bomb that she dropped on my head at that moment. Further on our stroll, to go home, we didn't say a thing.
