Kaya looked at her hands. Electrics sparked between her fingers before the sky was greeted by a loud strike of lightning. She couldn’t believe what was happening to herself. It felt like she was turning into someone else within 24 hours since she found out about things she thought was fictional. The lightning coursed through her body as if she had become one with the world’s deadliest element.

But, she was afraid. She never knew she could do this. How was she going to stop it? Kaya desperately searched for Jaxon, hoping he knew how to stop it. Then again, he couldn’t approach her. Not when the lightning was engulfing her.

“Do not be afraid, love.”

Her head shot up as she sought for the owner of the voice.

One of the lightning materialized into the shape of her dead husband. Dave stood in front of her with his dazzling smile that she loved so much.

“D-Dave…” Kaya stuttered, looking at him with her teary eyes.

“I’m sorry for leaving you and Camilla alone.” He reached to touch her right wrist where a small wound still bleeding because of the broken glass earlier.

He was no longer in the form of lightning. Instead, he looked like he was in his physical body. But, his body was cremated. That was what he wrote in his final will.

“It’s not your fault.” Kaya choked as tears brimmed down her eyes.

He wiped away her tears. “Love, I’m not here to ask for your forgiveness. There are things I never told you. My life wasn’t it seemed to be. We weren’t meant to fall in love.”

Ten years ago,

Alaric walked into the Great Hall of the Witches and Warlocks’ Council. The four Councilors were sitting on their chairs at the podium as he approached. These four people were the strongest witches and warlocks alive. They had lived for thousands of years and controlled the entire world of magic by their fingertips.

“Alaric Konstantine, my friend, it’s good to see you’re back,” Councilman Bane spoke as he was the oldest of all four.

None of them looked old even though their age was older than many cities in the world. That was what magic could do to someone. It either killed you or made you live long enough to see the world changed.

“I heard I was summoned here,” Alaric replied and straightened his posture. “I’m afraid I do not have much time to spare as I must return to my duty.”

“Klaus would take over of your duty. We have something far important for you.” Bane stood up and walked to one of the candles. “There is a young woman named Kaya Egerton. Her real name is Rosalie Xavier, the last surviving of the werewolf’s royal family. When she comes to an age, she would pose a threat to our society.”

“This could create war. I’m sure that’s not what you wanted.”

“We wanted you to eliminate her before the day comes. Do this in full discretion.”

“You wanted me to eliminate a blueblood werewolf?”

“Either her life or thousands of lives of our species.”

Alaric almost had a second thought if the magic world wasn’t involved. He agreed to the new assignment and set out to look for her. But what he didn’t know next, he would be held hostage in her beauty. He searched for her for two weeks until he found her at a birthday party. Colin insisted them to join the party despite they were undercover agents from the magic world. The training at the police academy was their cover to infiltrate the human world.

Kaya, in her early twenties, was talking and laughing with her friends. Her curly brown hair bounced as she moved along. Alaric was a goner when he saw the beauty. He had lived nearly a thousand years and never once he saw such a beautiful woman who looked so innocent and yet, reeking with power. A power she didn’t know she had possessed. The mark on her right wrist was the reason why her power was locked tight inside.

Without him noticing his own action, he talked to her for hours. The next thing happened, he couldn’t get her out of his mind. He investigated what sort of power she was beholding inside. He wanted to find out what kind of threat she would pose to his kind. The more he learned about her, the more he fell in love with her. One month was all it took for him to fall in love with the beauty.

From falling in love with her to marrying her then fathering a child with her. He changed his loyalty as he knew he could never kill her. Let alone hurting a strand of her hair. For once in his life, he felt alive.

Truly alive.

He devised a plan. A plan to fake her death so that the Council wouldn’t come after her anymore. And he succeeded in faking her death. They lived happily together with their daughter. He kept her safe. He kept their daughter safe. He cast so many spells around the house to protect them. But, his betrayal to his Council didn’t go unnoticed. They found out.

As the result, he was killed.

The drunk driver—he wasn’t a drunk driver. He was Klaus, the man who took over his duty in the Council before he was assigned to kill Kaya. Then, his replacement was assigned to kill his family. The only thing he regretted, he failed to protect them.

Kaya’s lips quivered as the memories flooded into her mind. Her heart sunk deeper and shattered even more. Dave deceived her from the beginning. He was sent to kill her but he didn’t.

“I really love you and Camilla. I wished I could have met you in different circumstances. Not a day passed by without me regretting my decision for accepting their request,” He whispered with a broken voice.

“How could you keep all these?”

“I didn’t want to lose you. I rather betraying my own kind than killing a woman who opened my heart to love.”

“I hate you, Dave. I hate you so much because you thought you were alone. I hate you because you kept all these from me. I hate you because you didn’t trust me enough.”

“I would never blame you for it.”

Kaya extended her hand and placed her palm against his cheek. He was real. His body was cremated but he felt so real right now. He looked like he was really alive.

She cupped his face and kissed him. The danger around her was long forgotten. She hated him but at the same time, she loved him with all her heart.

“Camilla is waiting for you to bring her home,” He mumbled after the kiss. “Only you could do that.”

“She’s locked in a drawing.”

“Yes, only you could bring her home. Love, you have no idea what kind of power you have.”

“Tell me.”

“There is no time.” He touched the necklace around her neck. “I kept a silver strand of my soul in here before I left on that night. Now, my time is coming to an end. Seek for the Chalice of Life. Then, you could save our princess.”

“Dave, I love you.”

“I love you too, my love. I love Camilla. Tell her that for me.”

He moved her right hand upward so that her palm would face the sky. The lightning projected to the morning sky. Dave slowly disintegrated along with the lightning to the blue sky.

“Goodbye, my love,” He said before he was gone.
