The Primordials: Death's Fury (Book One)
Chapter VI: Dark Lessons (Pt.3)

Tymon left the message – LET ME FOCUS – displayed.

Drowning them out again, Tymon focused part of his spirit energy on his eyes. When he opened them, it was like all light ceased to exist. He saw blackness everywhere except in front of him, where two half spheres distinguished themselves from the darkness.

Around Trik was a green protective field with a green hue inside, shielding him from the worst of Tymon’s spirit energy. Partially intermingled with Trik’s field was an astonishing aqua-colored field. In the middle of it stood Alissia, surrounded by a similar hue. Within her, he could see a mass of what he guessed was her spirit energy flowing throughout her body.

The color suited her; it radiated confidence, compassion, discipline, and intelligence like she was a born leader. It was also weirdly nostalgic and made her look...almost majestic.

Tymon was only now realizing how beautiful Alissia was. She was almost as beautiful as Za’Fia.

Speaking of Za’Fia, he should be getting back before she arrives.

Tymon relaxed his inner energy and concentrated on controlling his outer energy. There was a lot more of it, but it wasn’t as heavy, so he found it less strenuous to manipulate.

Once he’d gotten a good feel for his spirit energy, Tymon tried stopping it in place. Doing so changed its form. His energy became solid; it was less like mist now and more like a mass of five-kilometer-long blades. He felt a lot of the area take damage from the sudden solidification of his spirit energy.

“Whoa!” He heard Alissia scream.

“Hey! Watch what you’re doing!” Trik exclaimed.

Some of the blades were scratching against their energy fields.

Dammit! Tymon stood up, cursing at himself. He reached both hands outward in front of him. He was going to try guiding his spirit energy with his hands.

Spreading his fingers, Tymon willed his energy to revert to its incorporeal form, then raised his arms a little higher in front of him. While closing his fists, he imagined gripping the spirit energy in its entirety and pulled his arms back towards him.

Tymon’s body began to absorb all the energy quickly.

As more of it flowed into him, Tymon could feel his body fill with energy. Eventually, his body reached its capacity and stopped absorbing. Some of his spirit energy overflowed, rising from his skin like black steam.

Having his spirit energy concealed within him didn’t give the same sensation as having it released; instead of a rushing release, he felt more solid and physically empowered. Like his body was fully charged and compacted.

Above them, he glimpsed the distant moon in the night sky. It’s been years since he last saw it.

Tymon heard Trik mumble something about “not again” as he and Alissia approached him. He realized he could still sense their energies.

“Sorry about that,” Tymon spoke, shocking them all.

They all froze in anticipation. Trik and Tymon stared at Alissia, but nothing happened to each of their surprises. He hadn’t meant to speak, but Tymon noticed his words were lighter than they usually are. The power in his voice must’ve left when he suppressed his spirit energy.

Now that it wasn’t heavy with influence, his voice felt...smaller.

“Hey, nothing happened this time,” Alissia commented.

“You’re sure?” Trik asked.

Alissia paused for a moment.

“Yeah, I’m definitely myself. No mind intrusions.”

Trik hovered closer to Tymon.

Tymon found it unsettling to be examined by a short, floating teenager who either lost his shoes or forgot to put some on. Not to mention Tymon witnessed him transform from robot to human earlier. But despite the discomfort, he let Trik give his visual examination. From what he could tell of the two, Trik was the knowledgeable one.

While Trik examined him, Tymon asked a question.

“I noticed I can still sense the energy coming from you two without my spirit energy. How does that work?”

“You only need your energy to see other’s energy or feel them physically, not sense them,” Trik stated while circling Tymon. He was stroking a goatee that Tymon could’ve sworn he didn’t have before.

“Yeah, once you’ve opened your mind to it, it’s hard not to sense other’s energy,” Alissia added. “Sensing someone’s energy is something your body just does on its own now, like breathing. But when you want to perceive energy with your other senses, like sight or touch, you’ll need your spirit energy. You’re already aware of applying it to your eyes, but your spirit energy also serves as an extension of yourself, so your sense of touch extends with it. You’ll feel anything it encounters as if you were touching it, minus any pain. You know, in case it encounters something hot.”

That explains how I could feel their fields earlier. And how I could tell whoever was watching us didn’t hide nearby after disappearing, Tymon thought to himself. Whoever it was could not only withstand Tymon’s spirit energy without a rupture prism but also escape its vast reaches within a single heartbeat. Not to mention their spirit energy was stronger than his.

“Another thing,” Tymon said. “When I used that omni-vision thing, I could see your inner energy. I thought you said it only lets users see the external portion of someone’s spirit energy.”

“Hmm. That’s what it does for everyone else,” Alissia replied.

“Were you able to see further, too?” She asked.

“No,” Tymon replied.

“Okay,” Trik began while still circling Tymon, “My guess is whatever compulsion ability you possess is currently linked to your energy output. When you suppressed your spirit energy, you simultaneously turned off any abilities derived from it.”

“That’s what I figured happened,” Tymon agreed.

“And your omni-vision seems to be of a higher quality than a human’s, so you can see other’s full spirit energy. I’m going to assume each Primordial’s omni-vision operates similarly.”

“Makes sense,” Tymon responded.

Trik stopped in front of Tymon.

“About your spirit energy. You know, besides your physical capabilities, most of your abilities will require the use of your spirit energy. Many of your known abilities most likely haven’t manifested yet, so unless you plan t—”

“Trik...” Alissia interrupted.

Trik sighed exasperatedly.

“So,” he continued, “as you master your spirit energy, please ensure you learn how to conjure your abilities separately and at will. For our sakes.”

Initially, Tymon thought it was just the misunderstanding about him accidentally compelling Alissia, but he was starting to get the feeling that Trik didn’t like him.

The feeling was becoming mutual.

“Right...” Tymon responded.

A cool gust of wind blew past them.

Tymon noticed Alissia shiver.

“It’s getting dark,” Tymon announced. “I live in a house nearby. We can continue talking there.”

Tymon jumped from the tree branch and began east towards the exit near his oak tree. Behind him, he heard a soft THUD as Alissia landed, followed by her footsteps as she caught up to him.

“What, you scared of the dark?” Trik asked, approaching from Tymon’s left. It surprised him. Tymon thought he had pretty good hearing, but he hadn’t heard Trik approach him.

Oh yeah, he floats. Tymon thought to himself.

“I wouldn’t mind getting out of the dark myself,” Alissia inserted, looking around nervously. “Being mauled to death by some animal isn’t how I intend to die.”

“There are no animals to maul you here,” Trik responded. “At least, none that’s alive.”

Tymon glanced south, where he’d felt that ominous presence earlier.

“Hey, could there be any other Primordials in the area beside me?” Tymon asked.

“Not that we’re aware of,” Alissia replied. “Trik?”

“According to my sensors, the closest Primordial other than you is...314 miles away,” Trik announced.

“Really? That’s kind of close; who is it?” Alissia asked.

“The signature reads Supreme Primordial Fury,” answered Trik.

“So, no one here?” Tymon queried. Another Primordial was relatively close. Three hundred miles may not be a stretch for us.

“Doesn’t look like it. Why do you ask?” Alissia looked curiously at Trik and then back to Tymon.

Tymon remembered how the figure had been there one second and gone the next.

“How fast can a Primordial travel?” Tymon asked next.

Trik raised an eyebrow but answered.

“It depends. Running, only two have ever gone faster than 1,300 mph. Flight-wise, those same individuals are the only ones to surpass Mach 13. Once, the Supreme Primordial Life has been recorded to approach light-speed. Why’re you asking?”

Tymon would eventually learn to move that fast? He didn’t expect that.

Unless mistaken, Tymon knew no human could cover over a mile in less than a heartbeat. But any of the Primordials could.

“Let’s get inside first,” Tymon replied. “Besides, there’s someone I want you to meet.”

“Before we meet this person, how about you give us your name. That way, we can call you something other than Death,” Trik demanded.

“Right,” Tymon had completely forgotten to introduce himself.

“My name’s Tymon. Tymon Kage.”
