Days began running together between school, practicing magic and shapeshifting. I think what really made them blur together was the fact he still isn’t back. My life feels empty without him. When Valentine’s Day came, Harrison gave me a teddy bear from Jason. It was just an ordinary brown teddy bear, but that didn’t stop me from holding it each night till I fell asleep. Alex gave me a dozen red roses. A few months later our relationship status at school went back to being just friends. Next thing I knew, the school year was over with and a summer of magic and shapeshifting practice happened every day. Harrison taught me a lot of magic, but I was still trying to teach myself shapeshifting. Before I knew it summer had flown by. Junior year of high school had begun with marching season. We did a show of Romeo and Juliet. I actually go a spot this time in the show, but it reminded me of Jason more and more as we progressed, because at one time we were a forbidden love because of my father. Days continued to go by and marching season was over with. Christmas came and went and nothing from Jason. I don’t think he planned to be this long. I began to question if he ran away. It had been almost a year since he left. Time flies quicker when the one you love isn’t with you.
“Jay” I heard Alex’s voice snap me out of my thoughts. “The ball is about to drop in Time Square.” I invited him over so I would not be alone on New Year’s Eve. I made Harrison go to a party in the Otherside. He has been making trips there while I’ve been at school to train soldiers for my army.
“I’m sorry, I keep spacing out.” I said softly.
“It’s fine Jay, I’m used to it.” I looked at the TV counting: 5,4,3,2,1. Right when the ball fell I heard a crash upstairs. I quickly jumped up and ran up stairs to the crash. It was coming from the guest bedroom, well Jason’s bedroom. I ran in and there he was. Anger built up inside me as he walked my way.
“Jamie!” he sounded so excited to see me. “I have missed you so much!” When he got close enough I slapped him across the face.
“You shouldn’t have left. Did you even think about asking me how I felt?” My words seem to have stung him more than my slap.
He pulled me into a hug. “I’m sorry, I just thought the antidote would be the best option for you.”
I pulled away from him. “You are not a psychic, you don’t know what is best for me...” he cut me off with a passionate kiss. I lost my train of thought for a moment. “W-well next time you should at least let me know and discuss things with me before you just up and leave me. And stop making decisions for me!”
He pulled me into an embrace. “I’m sorry love, but you need the antidote.” he whispered in my ear.
I then heard Alex clearing his throat. That is when I realized he followed me up here. “Uh... I’m just going to go now. I’ll text you later, Jay.”
I pulled away from Jason. “I will not take the antidote, not now.” I then turned to Alex. “Let me walk you to the door Alex.”
We all three walked to the front door. I hugged Alex goodbye.
Right after Jason shut the door he started up again. “What is your problem with changing back? And where is Harrison?” He was all worked up.
“I sent Harrison to a party on the Otherside. One of the soldiers he was training, was throwing a big party for everyone.”
He cut me off before I could answer his other question. “He left you here alone, with no protection!” He yelled.
I slapped him across the face. “Calm yourself! That is why Alex is here; plus I have been training, not that you would know. I’m safer as a vampire, no one has attacked me since.” I turned my back to him.
“Alex was the one that turned you, we can’t trust him. And you, if slapping is the best you can do, well your screwed.” He said angered.
“Oh so now we get to the root of it all.” I said as I turned back around.
“You want me normal again because Alex changed me. If you changed me into a werewolf, that would be okay.” I could hear the rudeness in my voice.
“I couldn’t change you even if I tried. Mix breeds can’t change people, only purebreds. Jamie even you can’t change people.” He said trying to disprove my theory.
“Then if I can’t change people, and less people can find me, then what is the problem of me staying this way until the battle?” He went quiet for a bit after I said that.
“I will give the antidote to Harrison to hold on to.” He said defeated. “I’m sorry.” He hugged me, as I lifted up my right leg and pulled out my wand from my cowgirl boot I was wearing. I quickly pointed it at him and made him fly and hit the front door. I held him there as I walked towards him.
“And Jason, one more point to make. I have been practicing and Harrison has been teaching me. I can protect myself.” I got in his face. He kissed me and I lost concentration in his kiss. He was free, so he grabbed my arm with the wand and he pinned my arm behind my back by turning me around, in one fell swoop.
“But you need to remember to never let your guard down.” He whispered in my ear, it made my heart race. He took the wand and put it on the table near the front door and then turned me around to look at him. “Are we better now?” he asked staring softly into my eyes. My anger towards him was slowly fading. I slowly leaned in and kissed him. He pulled away. “I’m guessing that is a yes?” he had a smile on his face.
“For now.” I said jokingly with a grin. He pulled me in closer and kissed me passionately. Then out of nowhere there was a loud crash coming from the master bedroom. Harrison was back.
