Chapter 10

Once we got home we walked into an empty house. “Harrison?” I called out. All was quiet.

“Stay here.” Jason whispered in my ear. He began walking further into the house towards the kitchen.

“Be careful.” I whispered to him as he walked into the kitchen. I just stood there in the living room. Next thing I knew I heard the door shut behind me. I quickly turned around to see, but someone quickly grabbed me from behind and put a knife to my throat.

“Don’t make a sound, Jason will be out in a minute for you.” a male voice whispered in my ear. I listened and did what I was told. My heart was racing fast and I really didn’t know what to do.

Minutes later Jason came out running; I’m guessing he found Harrison. “You! Let her go, this is between you and me Slade.” I heard an evil laugh from Slade as he pulled me in closer. I felt his head get closer to my neck. All that was running through my head was: “Jason please save me.” I was terrified what he was going to do next. “If you bite her I will kill you where you stand.” I heard Jason say; he was getting pissed off. The only thing I could think of next was: “Is Slade a vampire or a werewolf?” Next thing a I knew Slade had dropped the knife and I barely felt his lips brush my neck. It sent chills down my spine.

“I think she wants me to.” I was paralyzed with fear and he still was holding on to me. I saw Jason begin to walk towards us. If I didn’t want to be bitten I would have to do something. I knew Jason couldn’t do anything without Slade biting me. I quickly shook off my paralysis from my fear, and jabbed him in the stomach really hard. He let go I quickly turned around naturally to strike again.

“LEAVE ME ALONE!!!” I yelled as my hand went into his chest sending him flying through the front door. I don’t know how I used my magic to be honest it was all a blur, like it just came natural to me. Jason ran outside, but I saw Slade run off before he could get to him.

I couldn’t help, but to fall to my knees in shock. Jason saw and came running back to me and knelt beside me. “Are you alright?!?” I think he was shocked that I was using my magic.

“I-I’m fine. Where’s Harrison? I-is he alright?” I realized my jaw was trembling. Jason picked me up off the floor and carried me to Harrison in the kitchen. He was just now getting up off the floor.

“Harrison what happened?” I asked softly.

“Maybe you should ask Jason? That is who he was after.” I turned my gaze back to Jason.

“What did you do to him?” I kind of figured it had something to do with his job when my father was alive.

“You know I have enemies just as much as you do.” He sighed. “That was Slade. I killed his wife... I was just doing my job.” He shook his head. I could see the regret in his eyes. Jason slowly set me down. “He is a werewolf too...” He was in thought, you could see he was processing something. “I-I got to go.” He kissed my cheek and then began to walk away.

I tried to go after him but Harrison grabbed my arm and stopped me. “Give him space. He needs some time.” I turned around and looked at Harrison. I knew he was right so I didn’t protest. “Harrison, I do have a question for you if you don’t mind.” He looked at me shocked I was changing the subject.

“No I don’t mind.” He said as he let go of my arm.

“What are you exactly?” I asked bluntly.

He busted out laughing at me. “I’m a wizard, and Melanie my better half was a psychic.” he looked down then back up. When he mentioned Melanie it reminded me I have no memories of my birth mother.

“Harrison? One more question, who was my real mother?” Harrison sighed and shook his head.

“I knew this question would come up someday, just shocked it never came before your father died.” He put his hand on my back and guided me to the kitchen table and we sat down. “Your mother was rarely talked about. Most never knew your mother existed. Your father chose to keep it quiet because she was not queen and to him never would be because she was a shapeshifter.” Thoughts were running through my mind and putting things together and I broke in before he could go on.

“I was a mistake!” I yelled. “What happened to her?!? She didn’t just give me up did she?!?” Harrison put his hand over my mouth.

“I’m not finished, but I hate to say this to you, but yes you were unexpected. Your father loved you very much regardless of that fact. Your mother did not give you up; she died giving birth to you.” He sighed. “Your father kept your mother a secret from almost everyone, but me and Mel because he didn’t want people to know you were a mix. He never really wanted you to know, but I feel you have a right to know.” He removed his hand from my mouth.

I didn’t know what to say because I was trying to process it all. “S-so I’m a witch and a shape shifter?” I slowly got up from the table.

Harrison got up as well. “I’m going to start dinner hon. I think you need to go rest and let that all sink in. I will call you when dinner is ready.” I slowly walked up to my room and laid down on my bed and waited for dinner.
