Chapter 48

*They’re not coming back. They have a business dinner party tonight. Don’t worry about

Finishing, Cecilia smiled at Alexandra and returned to the kitchen.

As Alexandra enjoyed her snacks, she admired enviously from the bottom of her heart. “Emery, you’re so lucky! Your mother is so nice!”

Emery did not answer. She nodded and picked up a purple–wrapped candy. “Try this. It’s delicious”

After dinner, the two girls had snacks in the living room. Cecilia accompanied them and occasionally added a few words but never mentioned anything about her family.

Alexandra was happily munching popcorn. She did not have so much freedom in the Ranford family that she could sit in the living room with snacks and watch soap operas.

Just as they were criticizing the Ranford family for having many rules, Cecilia heard the commotion at the door, and they turned around.

Two men walked in first, one was older, and the other one was younger. It was obvious that they were father and son. They were both in

business suits and ties.

Alexandra knew that they must be Emery’s father and elder brother.

Cecilia had already stood up to welcome them.

Originally, Alexandra was not interested in them. However, she did not expect another person to come in, who was holding a dark blue gift box in his hand, and his face was blocked by Cecilia.

Alexandra stuffed a handful of popcorn into her mouth and suddenly froze on the spot.

Why did that person look so much like Julian Ranford?

With a whoosh, she turned around to look again..

Then, she wished she could just vanish into the air immediately.

The three men had already entered the house. Julian also found the girl holding the popcorn bucket on the sofa in the living room a little

familiar.

Upon closer inspection, he found she was no one but Alexandra, who had been deliberately avoiding him lately.

He said inwardly. “Why did she come to the Walters family?”

However, he understood on second thought. Carson Walters had asked him to help a friend of his sister. The friend must be Alexandra.

As their eyes met, Alexandra’s face blushed instantly.

She almost choked to death on the popcorn.

She quickly put down the popcorn and pulled Emery back. “Emery, there’s a guest at your house. Let’s go up and sleep!”

Emery didn’t understand why Alexandra’s face was so red. She stood up with the help of her cane and said with a smile, “Sure, but you have to wait for a while. I haven’t expressed my gratitude yet! You probably don’t know someone helped with your exam last time.”

“Of course I knew it.

“I know who did it!”

Alexandra’s heart was racing.

She stealthily took a glance over there. “They’re here. They’re here!

“Help!”

Just as they were standing there, the men came over.

Cecilia introduced Alexandra to her husband, Ray Walters. “Ray, this is Alexandra, Emery’s good friend. She attends the same school as Emery

and is from the same faculty.”

Ray looked at Alexandra politely. “Have fun. Just tell Mrs. Walters if you need anything.”

Alexandra thought to herself, “The Walters family is so nice!”

“Thank you, Mr. Walters.”

She avoided Julian’s gaze. Ever since he walked over, she did not even take an extra look at him.

However, Julian’s gaze was always fixed on her face. Her intentional avoidance made him feel funny, and he wanted to tease her.

Emery continued to introduce, “This is my brother, Carson Walters. You can call him Carson.”

This was also Carson’s first time seeing a girl that his sister valued so much. She was pretty and innocent. He nodded slightly at her.

Alexandra said, “Hello…”

Emery was not done yet. She pointed at Julian and said, “This is Julian Ranford, my brother’s good friend. My brother told him about your exam. Julian helped you. Why don’t you take this opportunity to thank him in person?”

Alexandra was on the verge of screaming.

Julian didn’t say anything, though. He just looked at Alexandra, whose little face turned red and white, and she couldn’t avoid making eye. contact with him.

Emery tugged at her, woodering why she was still silent. And their eyes met.

Alexandra saw the gloating smile on Julian’s face and felt even more embarrassed.

She knew their relationship could not be announced to the public, let alone let anyone know they knew each other.

Hence, she quickly calmed down and uttered a few words between her teeth, “Thank you… Julian.”

A mosquito’s voice was probably louder than hers.

However, Julian heard it very clearly.

“Julian.”

The word actually made his heart itchy.

In the past, he had always heard her call him “Sir” or “Mr. Ranford“. However, when she suddenly changed how she addressed him, he felt inexplicably relieved, as if his soul had been comforted.

He smiled and stared at her. “You’re welcome, Carson is my friend. The friend of my friend’s sister… is also my friend.”

Alexandra lowered her head, trying to avoid making eye contact with him.

Emery did not know what was going on between the two. She told Alexandra, “If you need anything in the future, just look for my brother. He can help you settle it!”

Alexandra froze on the spot, not knowing how to respond.

Julian continued, “You can look for me. … will straighten things up

for you too.”

Alexandra looked at him and saw that he was calm and composed as if seeing her make foot of herself was fun.

Furiously, she glared at him.

Of course, only Julian noticed it.

He suppressed the corners of his lips that were about to curl up again, thinking that if he did not stop now, Alexandra would probably not dare to go home.

Hence, he took the initiative to change the topic and asked Ray, “Mr. Walters, how’s the preparation for tomorrow’s opening ceremony?”

“Basically…”

While they were talking about business, Alexandra grabbed a few bags of snacks from the living room and dragged Emery upstairs.

The few people in the living room sat down. Julian sat on the seat where Alexandra had just sat. He saw half a banana, unfinished popcorn, and several wrappers on the coffee table before him.

He could not help but look in the direction of the stairs. He wondered if she did not have enough to eat every day in the Ranford family.

When men talked about businesses, it would not end anytime soon

Not to mention they were at the top of the pyramid in Highclere City.

The Walters family recently stepped into the financial industry and invested in a wealth management company. It would open tomorrow.

As they chatted, it was getting late.

Cecilla brought a new pot of tea and placed it on the table. She said to Julian, “Jule, it’s so late today. Why don’t you stay the night with us? I’ll get someone to clean up a room. It’s the weekend tomorrow. Don’t you still have to go to the new company tomorrow?”

Carson knew his temper very well and was about to help him refuse. “Mom, don’t…”

“Okay, then I’ll have to trouble you, Mrs.. Walters.” Julian slowly raised the teacup to his mouth calmly.

Carson looked at him and raised his eyebrows. “What’s the matter with you today?”

He teased, “Oh, my, my, will wonders never cease?”

Julian squinted at him. “Can’t you learn anything from your sister? Learn from her hospitality and look at how she treats her friends.”

Carson was speechless.
