“Carson.”

Emery’s tone was not any friendlier after she saw Carson.

The entire family treated Emery very well, but after these years, Emery was sick and tired of how they were cautious and over-protective of her.

Carson and Emery had a great sibling relationship. Because of their great relationship, Emery was able to show her temper without holding back.

Carson exchanged glances with Cecilia, who was behind Emery. He then smiled and patted Emery’s shoulder. “You can rest up since classes are over. I have a dinner to attend, so I’ll get going now.”

Emery nodded. Without looking back, she started up the stairs with her cane.

Her old bedroom was on the second floor. After the accident, her family wanted to move her to the first floor, but she refused. That was why she still stayed in her original room.

Carson and Cecilia watched as Emery supported herself with the railing and walked up the stairs slowly. Neither of them spoke for a while.

When Cecilia saw Emery enter the bedroom, she finally let out a sigh.

Carson hugged Cecilia’s shoulder and comforted her, saying, “Mom, do not worry.”

Cecilia slapped Carson’s hand off. She treasured Emery like a doll, but Cecilia did not have a positive attitude toward her

son.

Cecilia’s slender brows furrowed. I’m not done with you yet. When will you meet with Ms. McNellis like your dad and 1 arranged?”

“Mom, I gotta go. I’m going to be late. Carson said as if he did not hear Cecilia’s words, Carson looked at his watch and sped

away.

Cecilia was left alone with her anger toward Carson.

“How old are you? You refuse to date and ignore the blind dates we set up for you. Are you insisting on pissing off your dad and me**

Cecilia’s voice was still echoing as Carson slammed the door shut and got into the car.

He escaped.

Alexandra wandered around until night fell. It was not like she could stay outside overnight.

Thus, she got onto a public bus and returned to Ranford Mansion

Public buses could not enter the villa area. After Alexandra entered the villa area, she had to walk another 20 minutes before she arrived at Ranford Mansion’s entrance.

As Alexandra walked, a pair of headlights shone over from behind her. She moved to the right side of the road, quickly getting out of the car’s way,

However, the car behind her came to a stop by her side.

Alexandra turned around with a cautious expression.

The car window rolled down. Julian was sitting in the driver’s seat. “Get in.”

Alexandra secretly stuck her tongue out. She opened the passenger side door and got into the car.

Alexandra did not dare to look at Julian after sitting down.

However, Julian was not about to make it easy for Alexandra. Julian glanced at Alexandra and asked, “Do your classes end this late?”

Alexandra frowned. It was obvious that Julian was making fun of her. She had not started school yet, so there was no way her classes ended this late. She would rather Julian laugh at her for not daring to go home than deal with Caroline and Josephine.

Alexandra twisted her head to the side. She played with the door handle of his fancy car and muttered, “The campus is too pretty. I toured it for a long time…”

The corners of Julian’s lips lifted softly. He did not expose Alexandra’s white lie. “Grams is really nice, Julian said. “You do not have to be scared of her. As for my mom, everything will be fine if you just go with her flow. Don’t be scared of going home.”

Alexandra’s heart bloomed with warmth. It turned out that Julian knew.

Julian knew why Alexandra always stayed out so late.

The two arrived home.

After the car was parked, Alexandra got out of the car first.

Julian had a big white bag in his hands. It looked like a bag of books and materials.

Julian handed it to Alexandra. “These are the exam questions from previous years for transfer students to the University of Highclere. You can take a look at them the next few days and get a better idea of things.”

Alexandra was speechless.

Alexandra carried the bag of materials and followed Julian into the house in a depressed mood.

They were home. The maids were there, but surprisingly, Caroline and Josephine were not home.

“Master Julian, Mrs. Josephine and Mrs. Caroline have a tea party this evening,” a maid reported. “They have already gone to

the party. Dinner is ready, so you and Mrs. Alexandra can eat whenever you wish.”

“Okay, got it.”

After Julian sent the maid away, he turned toward Alexandra.

Alexandra had guilt written all over her face. If she had known that nobody was home, there would have been no need for her to wander around the streets for so long.

Alexandra placed the materials in her room. When Alexandra went downstairs again, Julian was already sitting in the dining

room.

Alexandra sat down across from Julian. She looked at the plentiful food on the table and could not help but drool. Nobody else was at the dinner table, so Alexandra picked up her utensils and started eating.

If Josephine and the others were there, Alexandra would have to tone down and chew slowly.

Julian did not mind. They did not have to put on an act when they were alone.

Julian had grown up in a wealthy family, so he followed all the table etiquette. When Julian looked up without warning and saw how Alexandra was gobbling up the food, he found the image a little laughable but also a little cute.

While Julian was staring at Alexandra, she suddenly looked up and caught Julian’s eyes. “What are you looking at?” Alexandra

asked.

“It seems that the chef’s food suits your taste,” Julian said.

“Oh, are you saying that I eat too much or don’t have manners while eating? Mr. Ranford, can’t you just speak directly? You always insist on subtly making fun of me.” Despite Alexandra’s words, she did not stop eating and grabbed a golden fried drumstick with her bare hands.

Julian averted his eyes from the giant bite that had just appeared on the drumstick. “I am not making fun of you.”

“Hmph. Alexandra munched on the delicious drumstick as she studied Julian. “I don’t care. Anyway, I will never become the proper lady that Grams and the others want me to be. I have to act in front of them, but there is no need to do so in front of you, right?”

“No need. Just be yourself.” Julian lowered his head and started eating.

For some reason, Julian felt reassured with Alexandra sitting and eating across from him. It even felt heartwarming to him.

Although Julian usually ate with Josephine and the others, he had never felt this way before. After all, what this family gave Julian was more like invisible pressure.

It was even more impossible to eat a decent meal while working or attending business dinners.

The people surrounding Julian all had their own calculations. None of them were sincere.
